i will probably be rude for some people but here my opinion.

why they attack  they will only get new reason to new terrorist act..... these people have nothing to lose... we the occidental country have all to lose...... when we will see terrorist act all over america... they will know in what they threw us all

:(

My point exactly (great minds think alike :D ). The US has no choice. Bin Laden will attack the US anyway. If the Americans are serious, they can destroy a terror web that was built for over 50 years. It's better to take the chance of another terrorist being created (and can't do anything without Bin Laden's logistics) then to take the chance of Bin Laden attacking again

100% agreed. This should have been done a long time ago - terrorists have no place in any society. I wish the allied forces a speedy, efficient and complete victory.

Jayzuz, mon, I don't get it! I'm the rabid peacemonger here who would be expected to say such silly stuff! I really don't understand the folks who are demonizing us for defending ourselves. Ain't nobody Jesus around here; we don't turn the other cheek! Heck, we're danged if we do, and danged if we don't! For all you folks hoopin' and hollerin', tell me, what would you do? Don't even begin to tell me that your country wouldn't fight back. I know that there are some nations out there who would have bombed the enemy back to the Stone Age an hour after they were attacked.

My country has done all that it can to stick to the moral high ground, gathering evidence, and the like. And yet, people say, "why are you taking so long to do something?" "You are cowards." Then, when we do attack those who attacked us 4 WEEKS later, then, people say that the U.S. is a terrorist nation! If you America-haters out there love Osama and the Taliban so much, why don't you get off your tired butts and go fight with them?!?!

I give up! (Throws hands up in exasperation)

With all due respect to the rest of you, I humbly apologize for my outburst--I'm just really frustrated.

"They will attack again anyway. So why not get 'em before they do?"

Too true. Like the old saying, "Attack is the best form of defense", at least by attacking, there's a small chance of keeping the terrorists so busy looking after their own asses, they'll have no time to play terrorist games in other countries.
Osama and his group will attack again anyway. He has already proven it; the US embassies in Africa, the USS Cole etc. I think the US is already showing great restraint in their response; negotiating with the Taliban, giving time for civilians to flee, airdropping food (did the Taliban ever give food to the Afghan people?) etc.

I agree, Bin Laden would attack again...

So why not just withdraw all american presense from the middle east?

Do you americans really believe that the terrorists blew up a few towers for the hell of it? No! Im not rocket scientest, but from what i have heard, is that america was pissing them off trying to control the oil there. Why doesn't america apoligize for everything and withdraw everything? If america isn't there to piss them off, then alls good isn't it/

i d'ont konw what to think ...... my contry was not dirrectely attacked bt these terrorist... but i could think totally different if i was attacked myself... And im not alone to think like that, most of my neighbourg think the same and do not approve this attack... but we have no right to tell you what you should do...
i just hope for you that the strike back is the right answer because if it is not the world is in big trouble.
i hope you will understand me.;)

Dear oh dear. The situation is just a teensy little bit more complicated than just oil, my most esteemed Dr scorch. There are issues of religion, culture, geopolitics, but most of all morality, and a ****en madman who thinks he can take on the world and remake it in his own image.

It is this last point which is most important. The terrorists of al Qaeda are not after negotiated goals; they do not approach affairs from Greco Roman tradition of logic and reason, nor froma moral ethic that is familiar to Western society (by this I do not mean that this is superior to some other POVs, although it is to their twisted conception of the world, but rather that it is beyond the pale of generally how 'we' operate.)
Their sworn goal is the destruction of the West, with all its democracy, freedom and opportunity, and the imposition of a barbaric, primitive twisted-Islamic state. Even the majority of Muslims condemn them as EVIL. They cannot be assuaged, nor appeased, even though some would like them to be. They are alien, and must be destroyed before they harm anyone more. Simple as that. Then we worry about the geopolitical balance of the region, or changes in US foreign policy.

They are as intractable as Hitler, and I would very much like every one of their misbegotten beings to end up like he did: burnt in petrol, the remains kept in a cardboard box in a Soviet storage facility, and thrown down a sewer in the 1960s.

Dread said it perfectly. Sometimes, despite it being a dirty job, it has to be done. You do not reason with a rabid dog. You destroy it. that is what is happening, and it is exactly what will come to pass. Fact.
If you want to go b!tch about the morality of it, or claim that they are killing hundreds of thousands of innocents, then do so, but don't expect most thinking people to pay you any heed. A poll gave 94% support for the US action, and that is mirrored in the worlds reaction.

Joukov, i may be one of your neighbors, and i think US did the right thing, because they controlled themself and didnt retaliate in the few hour after like they did when Kenya's and Tanzania's embassy were bombed... Those attack couldnt have been avoided by any means, they needed to do something and they did what they could to prevent Ben Laden from preparing other things. I doubt they will be really usefull, but at least they're telling terrorists that they will track them down...

The world has not gone worse yesterday, the world reached an all time low september 11th, when those monsters decided to kill as much innocent they could, not because they are poor or because they suffer from american "imperialism" (dont think this myself), but only because they hate us...

Damn, Simon, that was awesome. I got goosebumps reading that.

I'm too tired nowadays to spin out something that articulate.

Glad somebody isn't.:)

dreadhead7 sorry to inform you afganistan cant be bombed into the stone age its all ready there from the years of war its already been through

I think the states is going alright taking its time and doing what its doing

dont hass America

Thanks, joe. It's good to see that the majority of people out there do see the same sense as me:) and know that we are right and will win.
You ain't that inarticulate yourself, mate:D

What makes so many people think that such terrorist attacks will stop if Bin Laden is killed? I realise he is an important source of revenue for the anti-US fighters, but it does not begin and end with him. There will still be unrest even if the US succeed in killing him.

Simon, are you aware that Le Petit Prince is also using your sig?

Gee I hope that isn't the case. Bin Laden is just a small piece of the puzzle.

WHAT!!!!!!:nuke: Now the world really is getting worse. I will have to dispatch the KGB to persuade him of the error of his ways:eek: ;)
And in answer to duke, they are not aiming only at him, but at his entire command structure, and all those who would seek to emulate him. In that sense, i agree with you that just taking out one man will not solve the situation.

But he will be the first of many, most deserving criminals who are about to need some 3000000+ sunblock...

T9---maybe it wasn't clear in my post, but I was referring to any enemy, not necesarily Afghanistan. I'm not so dumb that I'm not aware of the situation there. I may be American, but I am by no means stupid or obtuse, and I do try hard to keep up on world affairs.

hum the only way to get rid of these terrorist, is a SERIOUS change of the U.S politics against the contry of the middle east.

By change a means that the us should stop to intrude in the affairs of these people. That why so many contry hate the U.S

Every time the US promote a group of people that fight in the same way as the U.S , all of the people that d'ont like this way begin to hate the U.S

For an example, did someone hate the swedish, i d'ont think so because the swedish d'ont interfere with others affairs. So if the U.S continue to act like this, the terrorist will only get worse.

When did the US "intrude" in the middle east? And don't tell me that "The US is helping Israel" because American help to Israel isn't for free. We pay for our weapons, we supply intelligence (The Mosad even warned the US about Mohamad atta) etc... The only ones getting help for free are those who get aid from the US. And they're the people of the terror supporting countries.
