Very informative. I’ve been to Debre Damo though… it wasn’t built on a pagan shrine. That’s a lie fabricated by the church to protect Ezana’s and the 9 saints image. Ezana slaughtered Agew monks, drove the Bahitawi out of their home (letters written by Emperor Ella Almida regarding Bahitawi monks are preserved on site) ,& looted from the Basilica ruins of Debre Damo which includes hundreds of discovered and undiscovered caves. Debre Damo is also home to the eldest mural hieroglyphs in the world Debicting Enoch and Melchizedek dating from 3 century B.C (literally the only cave art Depictions of anything discovered in the entire mountain and place of worship! I checked online , in literature, and in person) to the time it was resealed again in the 5th century to hide other artifacts from the church. Letters from Kings Ella Almida, Ezana, and Gebre Meskel are still preserved on site to remind Ethiopians that Ezana looted the Ark of the Covenant from that landsite, along with stelae, other biblical artifacts, manuscripts, and scriptures. Has no one really stopped to think why they said they worshipped a pagan serpent? Or why the Aregawi, who established the REconstructed monastery is said to have climbed up on another serpent? Or the fact he ordered Gebre Meskel to destroy the staircase?
