Title. Against human and / or AI players, which civs do you find hardest to cope with?

  • Australia: That boost on being attacked is ridiculously strong. Played a few games recently Vs Australia and I can safely say don't even bother attacking them after declaring war for quite a few turns.
  • AI Kongo: Not building Holy Sites means they focus campuses instead. Not fun on deity.
  • Mongolia: Attack on sight is not a fun strategy and it's still one that often backfires. And if you let them trade with you...
  • Aztecs: The attack boosts sometimes spiral out of control and get to the point where they're almost unwinnable.

It's hard to deal with Australia? They seem pretty easy-going to me. OH, you mean attack. Why didn't you say so?

Well, there's Mapuche. Having someone come at you with a +10 bonus is kinda not worth any of the bennies ya get from a golden age.

Zulu's impi are woefully broken. Thank god AI sucks at warfare.

America's +5 combat strength is obnoxious if you're trying to "deal" with them, which is by design. Honestly, the bonus really means America should seek to start wars on their home turf, not avoid them. Which, like Australia, they often do against poor wittle city-states, despite their agendas.

One of the sloppy mistakes of Civ Vi design was giving civ's broad, sweeping, overly-large and even multiple stacking combat strength bonuses. Absurd, overpowering, and only made sufferable by virtue of the AI sucking hard at both warfare and diplomacy.

I agree with 3 of your 4.

I don't have so much trouble with the Aztecs. I have the most trouble with Gilgamesh. If he's distant he usually gets to steamrolling other civs pretty quickly. If he's close I surprise war him after a lucrative lump sum trade deal & use his gold to buy slingers/archers to form an archer wall & pick off warcarts as they advance. Then pillage his ziggurats.

Recently lost/rage quitted a game where Mongolia attacked. I thought I was prepared but I underestimated his diplomatic visibility bonus which is pretty brutal.

90% of games, the Aztecs aren't too bad. It's the game's where I only meet them after researching the ocean crossing tech where there's issues depending on their successes.

Kongo and Russia pretty much usurp all the great works

If I'm close to Australia I hit them hard before they have time to build up and get too many mines up. If you are lucky, you can try to provoke him. Otherwise try to make friends. I hope they can get that fix in GS where some Civs don't attack city states, because Johnny is the worst offender at conquering city states.

Greece/Russia/Kongo is annoying when defending against cultural victory.

None of the AIs are hard to deal with because you are in information age when they're in medieval.

/s

Now that we've gotten stupid comments like that out of the way, I would definitely like to express my hatred towards Seondeok, Mvemba, and Peter for stealing all the Great People, as well as Montezuma/America for their OP early abilities.

Finally John Curtin is an evil warmongerer that takes Cs's down and you can't do anything about it because lolinstantproduction.

Assuming you mean on my continent:

- America is the worst for me. I hate their music, and that +5 makes everything harder.
- Kongo is next. Just really annoying.
- Early unit warmongers and Genghis are next. They will gang up on you.

On a related note, viking bro declares war on me multiple times every game (for some reason I always get him), even though he has nothing.

I played 5 games since I learned about GS and got back into Civ and each one I had Monti next to me. That guy is haunting me. Eagle warriors are tough to fight at the start of the game on Deity. But at least I capped some workers from him.

Arabia can be very hard to deal with due to the Mamluk. Knights are ridiculously strong when they arrive and Arabia don't require Iron to build them. You pretty much have to build 5 or 6 Spearmen and go for Military Tactics ASAP.

I'm a peaceful player, but if Arabia is nearby early game I feel like wiping them out.

Germany a pita for me to play against as they LOVE to gobble up CSs and I like to suz has many as possible . Now, if I'm the Aussies this is delightfully synergistic :goodjob:
