Have you become what you wanted to be as a Child?

I always wanted to grow up to be an IT programme manager working on internal controls for US financial legislation. I've had to work hard to keep the dream alive, but, thanks to Messrs. Sarbane and Oxley, finally I can live that dream.

 No-one really gets to grow up and have the career they want (OK, maybe very few). And there was never a kid who wanted to grow up a lawyer, an economist or an accountant - if you're saying that, then you've obviously stopped dreaming (except about money, perhaps...).

I also wanted to be a pilot. Should I happen to make it big, financially, then I'll buy my own personal F-16 and THEN, yes, then, I'll have done everything I wanted as kid.

Be careful when you do. You might get classified as a beligerent state with sneaky intentions and get invaded. I'd stick to a Cessna. Much less threatening.

I always wanted to be a Pirate. My dreams were shattered when my second grade teacher informed me that it wasn't a valid profession.

Your teacher should talk to the guy who lives in the room next to me. I'm pretty sure he thinks he's a pirate...one of them could straighten out the other.

You can always give it a go on an amateur basis--Stardust@home et al. allow for arm-chair astronomy...
I do sometimes participate in amateur astronomy, but I've realized along the way I'm more into ogling processed photographs and reading other's analysis than actually doing the work myself.

Of course, the most obvious applications for what I'm doing now (working on a master's thesis in GR) are in astrophysics.

I wanted to be the Centipede Champion of the World . . . and an accountant%$?!!

Then I got a social life and both dreams died. Then I got married and that dream died. So now, I'm running a small non-profit, making next to nothing, doing the good work.

Such is life.

MIR and Capitol for the 1/4 and Summit point for the road courses.

Well not really. I wanted to be an astronaut. But of course NZ has no space program! ;)
Then an archaeologist like Indiana Jones. But alas I lack in the lanuages dept. They are not really my thing, so can't do archeaology in the field I want to at the moment. Maybe one day....
Right now I'm kinda doing what I want to do... work in a library, researching, sifting information for people and helping them.

I've wanted to be a wizard since I was 4 years old(And yes, this was before the Harry Potter wave, so it's an original idea)
I became rather disillusioned when I realized it could not be, so my new ambition is to become a writer someday, the closest thing to a wizard possible in the real world.

Well, I'm not:

an austronaut
a politician (the president or a senator)
a mad scientist inventor
a sane scientist inventor
a rock star
a dictator (hee hee)
an artist

So no, I'm not what I wanted to be. Computer programmer was never something I aspired to be. It just happened to be what I have a fantastic aptitude for.

I'm freakin tiny and I wanted to be a basketball player. That ended in less than a month. When I was three I wanted to be a garbage man.
Hmm... I think back on my past and I think everything fits into me in the wrong way. Interesting.

I'm fifteen so I would still put child. Got one more year til I reach my all time dream of becoming a punk rock star.

I hope you make it. :)

I reckon the reason I didn't achieve it was cause I spent my entire life at the beach surfing rather than at school, (which I hated then but I enjoy studying now).

I did however become a Veterinary Nurse for 7 1/2 years which, whilst not the same, I did enjoy it immensely.
