Hippy

I haven't traveled much in the last few years so I am wondering if there are still hippies around elsewhere (aside from the original ones). They are almost gone from the Twin Cities, though there are gutter punks everywhere. Gutter punks seem to be the hippies of today.

Yeah, the only true hippies are crust punks now. Which is the same thing as 60's hippies except they wear over-alls, dreadlocks and are probably more annoying.

People with long hair. :D It's fun to make fun of (in RL). I've been called a hippy for listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival - so it's not just the hair.
But that is basicaly because in romanian the word hippy is translated quite strangely and it kinda sounds like a curse word. :D But not like a bad curse word - like the kind that you use on your friends.

I thought that was college students?
College students contribute much more then hippies do and they're training to be even better at it!

An insult that regularly comes my way. Besides my hair it's largely inappropriate; besides, all my friends call me Hippy.:)

It's traditionally spelled "hippie," for future reference.

What do I think? I think of an unshaven, left-wing, pot-smoking, neo-Luddite sixties throwback. That is my first impression.

Next in line is the "Burning Man" attendee, a person that no awareness of their own foolishness. They are in denial of living in a civilized, industrial society; their desire (only in public) is to establish a society of communal peasantry, and express this desire through their gathering.

It is a short gathering, since they can't afford to offset the difficulties of reality indefinently. Since they are spoiled by the riches of our society, they take all advantages of the capitalist system while at the same time decrying the so-called "excesses" of those that create those opportunities for them.

They're the young brainwashed of our culture, a culture that fades away after the optimism (foolishness) of their youth has been drained away by the truth of living in the Western world.

Satisfactory answer?

Hippies are those who wax on and on about the evils of modern industrial culture, yet don't do a damn thing about it.

I'd prefer it to stay that way, otherwise we end up with...

Unwashed, long-haired, counter-culture druggies who were responsible for a great deal of the moral decay of this nation.

now i know who to thank.

anyways, i think of classic rock elitists who think that hippies made the only good music ever.

the closest thing i would have been to a hippy in the 60s would have been one of the psychedelic fans in england. pink floyd, the beatles, freakouts, etc.

meh.

Hendrix man.......its hendrix......:nuke:

2 Classic examples of a hippie- Spiccolli in Fast Times in Ridgemont High and Leo in That 70s Show
