The store's Christmas buyer Geraldine James said some items had already sold out.

'I'm sure it's very early for some people to be thinking about Christmas, but we are just responding to public demand,' she said.

'We launched the Christmas collection last year on August 8 and we sold more than 1,000 baubles in the first week. Sales were up 40 per cent on the previous year which shows some customers want to shop for Christmas at this time of year.

:xtree:Harrods will change to Christmas attire on Saturday btw.:xtree:

Haven't seen any stores in Norway or Japan changing to Christmas style yet, but I'm not sure if I should laugh or complain. Personally, I like Christmas and all the Christmas-food and sweets, but maybe it would be better if it is limited to around November and December? :xmas:

Thinking about it, if we're already in the Christmas season, then logically it's way over a year since I went to Japan... :D

Gotta put on some Christmas music to celebrate the quick return of Christmas. Why, the World Cup is hardly over and now we can all start looking forward to Christmas again! :xmas:

Umm, WHAT?! It's not EVEN HALLOWEEN YET!!!

The holiday shopping season doesn't start until September 11th.

I wonder if they'll even bother taking the decorations down at all this next year...

Already? This is pretty ridiculous.

I have to admit, Cheetah, I was about to tear you a new one after reading the title. "Christmas? Are you kidding?"

Now...:<

The holiday shopping season doesn't start until September 11th.

That reminded me of something I read once that argued fairly well that Jesus's actual birthday is probably September 11th. Apparently Rosh Hashana is the only day in which Anna would have been allowed to worship day and night before meeting Mary and Jesus when they came for his dedication, and counting back the number of days required between birth and this ceremony places his birth on September 11th in the most probable birth year.

Pft amateurs. Walmart has been selling Christmas things since May. For Christmas 2011

Which year did it use?

If I owned a department store I'd put all the Christmas decorations up in August. And then take them down in late November. And then deny all knowledge of the holiday.

Jeezo, that's pushing it. Whatever happened to the Halloween floodgates? That's the whole point of Halloween, as far as I'm concerned.

For what it's worth, a lot of our Halloween decorations tend to stay up until mid-November, and our Christmas decorations often stay up until several months after Christmas. Or at least, the snowflakes I put up. We just can't be damned to take all our crap down. :p

But yay, there's nothing like Christmas all year round! Who's to complain about free presents and goodwill toward men(moreso the former than latter) 24/7/365?! :D

After all, if Christmas' ideas of love and charity were present all throughout the year, the holiday wouldn't be necessary... what doth that say about mankind-eth?

I'm not quite sure. I think I vaguely remember it saying 4 BC. I remember it claiming that the text is correct in claiming that Quirinius was governor and Herod the Great was in power at the same time. It said that there is evidence that Quirinus served 2 non-consecutive terms (or was it that he served as a military governor and then later a civilian governor?), and that Christ was born during his less known first term, when Herod was still alive. It also claimed that traditional date of Herod's death is wrong, as Josephus probably mean that he died shortly after the total eclipse of 1 BC rather than the partial eclipse in 4 BC.

Also, I don't recall whether the date become 9/11 when mapped onto the Julian or Gregorian calender.

When I googled it I could not find the original page. One page I did find was argued for September 11th 3 BC, but it was based not on that passage but on "deciphering the bible code," which really can be used to say anything you want to make it say.

But I just took down my X-mas stuff! Ok, I may be a little lazy...

they obviously celebrate the birth of supply side Jesus
