I thought you didn't want it running on the C drive

Does that mean that 1.74 post 3.13 matches vanilla gold (or vanilla gold post 3.13), and Warlords 2.13 post 3.13 matches Warlords gold (or Warlords gold post 3.13)? But right now those without BtS cannot get vanilla and warlords to the post 3.13 state?

That's my understanding.

This is 'kind of' good news though, this means that if the GOTM teams makes
one more set of saves for Vanilla and warlords the problem can be solved, D2D people just need to upgrade to BTS and then, ta da. 8 Save game files covers everyone. Assuming a BTS GoTM starts up. If not then there are just 6 saves.

GoTM

Vanilla - (Gold and BTS)/Mac/Regular edition

Warlords - (Gold and BTS)/Mac/Regular edition

BTS - (Gold and BTS)/Mac

Of course i realize all their work is voluntary and I don't want to see them spending an inordinate amount of time on save game files, I just thought I would point out the possibility.

on the other hand, if Firaxis allows the mods to redistribute the changed .dll files, then they'll be able to go with pc and mac, only this time D2D, Steam and Gold will all be able to play

Well, I'm back with more problems. I'm suspecting it may be due to the HOF mod, but not sure. The HOF game, playing the GOTM worked fine, until last night. I had not quit the game since I started, only minimized. I decided to retire in the game, and when it got to the replay page after retiring, the game completely hosed up my computer. In trying to get something to respond, I did see Firefox opening a file open window(something starting with an L, relating to the mod, I believe). I'm talking my laptop went into a serious meltdown. Finally I hit Ctl-Alt-Del enough that it painstakingly shut everything down(like watching paint dry), and shut the computer down. I was so irritated, I just slammed the laptop lid, and went to bed. Today being a new day, I went into the mod again, and saw my game indeed was saved to the Hall of Fame, at least. Started another game, and after a bit, got an error message that the ialmrnt5displaydriver has stopped working, or some such thing. I tried repeatedly and it kept happening. Tried vanilla, and it happened again. I'm thinking it had to have something to do with the mod, and probably to do with what happened last night. While my laptop doesn't love running Civ 4, it does so, and has for months, with no problems.

All these problems are getting quite discouraging. I just want to play a game. Pretty soon, I'm going to just take this mod off my computer, so I can hopefully play again. That is, unless someone has some ideas on a quick fix.

One last question: What gives with the mod, and every game I start saying "this game is not eligible for the HoF, due to Locked Assets not being checked, or some such thing? I've looked in Options countless times, and see no such thing to toggle on or off.

I am not totally sure what you are experiencing but it sounds like it's dieing when it was getting ready to play an end-game video. Normally, when civ4 crashes like that there can be a error dialog and/or a request to report the error to MS. I don't use firefox so I don't if it would be called for that. Normally it is just a dialog.

The standard recommendation in your case would be to upgrade your drivers and/or turn movies off in the civ4 ini files. The only thing the HOF Mod could likely contribute to the mix is slightly higher RAM and video RAM requirement. The way to find out in any case is to play without the mod.

The HOF Mod is intend to for playing games for the HOF. When you see the warning message you should go to the Victory Screen's options tab to see what is wrong. If you don't care to submit to the HOF, then the options for the warnings are on Game Options' HOF3 tab: "Startup HOF Settings" and "Victory Screen HOF Setting".

I believe some things were already automatically turned off, by the game itself, to run on the laptop. I don't think movies are one of them, but I could probably live without them, for sure. However, that certainly didn't change since yesterday, so that's not at fault here. And, like I said, I'm getting this driver error/computer freeze up/reboot, in both HOF mod and vanilla. I basically can't play at all, now. Something got messed up. I'm pondering a system restore back to tomorrow, if possible.

Right...understood. So, if I downloaded the mod, and made no changes, why am I getting this on any new game I start in the mod? And, right, I've looked at F8(Victory/Settings), and it says the error is, red letters: "the following must be checked": Lock Modified Assets. Where and how do I do this? There is no such selection in Options, that I see.

You are probably using "Play Now". You will see options such as "Lock Modified Assets" if you use Custom Game to start your game.

Right....Play Now. What else should I be doing to start a Single Player game? I play Single Player, and try to play random games. I pick Fractal and always play random. That won't work for HOF?

Edit: I see...sort of....you go into Custom and there is a setting there for Lock Modified Assets. So, you have to play a Custom Game for HOF eligibility? Can I still play random games? Forgive, in advance, as I probably could have read this elsewhere, I imagine.

As Denniz already said: for games eligible for the HOF you need to use Custom Game instead of Play Now and then check Lock Modified Assets. You can use the Fractal Map in the Custom Game menu just as well as from the Play Now menu and leave everything randomized :)

Ok...gotcha. I see that now. I was misreading what Denniz wrote about the Custom Game. Thanks to both of you.

Now all I need is to figure out the technical issue, so I can play. Perhaps a system restore is the answer? It sure worked before last night, so a restore before that might be the ticket, without major headaches and time wasting. i.e. a quick fix.

in my experience, when something breaks on your computer(software, that is) a system restore is usually enough to fix it :)

I've got a question for anyone who might know...if I update my .dll for Warlords and Vanilla for the GOTMs, will I still be able to submit games for the HOF, or would I need to revert back to my previous .dlls?

Those DLLs are the same ones that BTS 3.13 installs. So you would have to revert to play HOF games.

We are trying to get new HOF Mod together but our really good C++ contributers have been unable to help us much this time, so we having to muddling through. ;)

ahhh, too bad I don't trust myself with C++ yet(just learning it this semester at uni).

I figured that I would probably need to revert back for HOF games, but wanted to make sure first :)

Hey, so I saw the new GOTM uses the new assets, but for some reason it's still not working!!! Can someone tell me if there is something wrong with this game setup?

1) I freshly installed Gold edition into the same folders as regular edition (i.e. I installed into Fraxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4)
2) I Started a new game using 'play now' in both vanilla and warlords.
3) I Downloaded the Mod and installed
4) I downloaded the assets given on the site and installed
5) I downloaded the save game file, tried to play, and I get protected assets warning. =(

It is difficult to know what might have goine wrong. Did you mean you used the same path name as the regular edition or you actually install it on top of a previous installation? Are you sure you got the DLL files into the right folders? Did the HOF Mod start when you loaded the GOTM file?

Some have found that if the GOTM won't open from double clicking the save, it might if you open the game, load the mod, and then load the save.

I can't explain why, but that has worked for at least one person ... :crazyeye:

So perhaps worth a try?

(addendum: I am assuming that the install works for a random game [with the mod], but not for the GOTM save)

@Wolverine: The "new GOTM" that uses the post-BtS assets is actually a WOTM.

1. Where is your Warlords .exe after you have installed Gold? Did you put the right .dll into the correct Warlords /Assets/ folder?

2. How did you start up Warlords? As da_Vinci says, you may not be starting the right version, or the right mod if you double click the WOTM start file. If you are using a desktop shortcut to start it, please check that its Properties point to the correct copy of the Warlords .exe.

3. When you say there's a Protected Assets warning, do you really mean a Warning? A warning would still allow you to play the WOTM. Or do you mean a Failure that prevents you from starting the game?
