HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

Denniz, thanks a bunch.
HOF-team is just,..., brilliant. (don't really know if brilliant is still the way to talk... I guess not since my english is probably 10 years old now ).

I understand what you guys are saying. Having played a few gauntlets, I have done the same thing. It would require a SDk change, which is a bottleneck right now. I can't make any promises but I will keep it in mind.

Thanks for clarifying it - if you can do it we love it - if not ... hmmm ... jumping out of the window?

Brilliant is an apt description of the HOF team. And unlike some words or phrases that are passing fads (for example, "groovy" came and went in the '60s), brilliant is entrenched in English as meaning a feat of intellectual virtuosity.

(As well as meaning bright, shinny or luminous ... the word's other meanning. Hence a light bulb as a representation of a brilliant idea.)

Glad to see I did loose too much then ;)
I even remember during one of my stays there, that people encourage me to say "brill". Sounded silly (mmm, sill ?) to me so I never went for it.

Oh boy I am running in the shifting sands of being off-topic, am I not ?

My Civ4 Vanilla CD finally picked up enough scratches from my kids leaving it unprotected on the desk that it wasn't working. I hadn't picked up Warlords yet (way behind I know) so bought the Gold edition. Looking forward to trying GOTM again, I downloaded the HOF mods and after a few hours of reinstalling and reconfiguring, I have learned from this thread that it's not compatible. I also saw that there were some plans to make it so. I'm writing to let the HOF/GOTM staff know that there's someone who would certainly appreciate this.

Thanks for all of your volunteer efforts throughout the years!

Well, they did "something". The result was that anyone updating to BtS 3.13 gets a new set of Assets for vanilla and Warlords, and becomes incompatible with non-BtS users of those variants. Great! They need to do the other half, which requires a patch to vanilla and Warlords for non-BtS users to bring them into line.

Hmm, are you saying that if I buy BtS for my gold edition and update to 3.13 and install the HOF mod that my warlords will be able to play GotM? Cuz i'll go do that today. The only reason I havn't purchased BtS is because I wasn't sure I was going to be able to play GotM anymore.

Not quite. Something has to be worked out between those that have BTS and those that don't. We need one of these things to happen:
  • Get permission from Firaxis/Take2 to distribute the DLLs that 3.13 updated Vanilla and Warlords with.
  • Figure out a way for the HOF Mods to tell the difference between the two versions (BTS/non-BTS) for the "protected assets" check (not the HOF warning but the hard error preventing opening of the save)
  • GOTM staff would have to decide to create extra versions of the save files for BTS/non-BTS owners.
Of course, we still have to create HOF Mods the can support the 3.13 DLLs.

And don't ask, all of that is out of my control. :gripe:

lol, fair enough.

Thanks for laying it all out though, I'll keep checking back here for news.

Although, it seems like it would be in the companies best interest to allow you guys to distribute the DLL's. Your doing the game a service, the online communities and projects like this keep people buying the game.

Is there a fix on the gold edition issues, distinct from the 3.13 issues? Or is that what 3.13 did ... make old vanilla and Warlords match gold?

Does that mean that 1.74 post 3.13 matches vanilla gold (or vanilla gold post 3.13), and Warlords 2.13 post 3.13 matches Warlords gold (or Warlords gold post 3.13)? But right now those without BtS cannot get vanilla and warlords to the post 3.13 state?

While I am asking ... did 3.13 change any Warlords files, or just vanilla files that Warlords uses? Important for the dll swapping workaround that is being used for GOTM.

I believe that is exactly what 3.13 did.

That's my understanding.

I seem to recall there was a post here or in the GOTM forums that listed the changed files. I *think* there were changes in both vanilla and Warlords Assets, but I may be wrong - there's a first time for everything :p

They changed the Vanilla and Warlords .dll and just to annoy everyone they also resaved the GlobalDefines.xml and BuildingInfos.xml for Warlords without changing anything but since they now have a different change date this also counts as modified...

There is a post by ainwood in the GOTM 24 saves available thread that describes need to archive one dll file and then reinstall and repatch vanilla.

Although that will work to get the GOTM 24 back up and running, it sounds like it takes a lot more to generate a set of files to swap back and forth to get all three versions to run when you need them.

I currently have a dual install set up from the previous round of this ... maybe extending that to a triple install is the easiest answer after all

This is the 4th place I've posted for help on this. Hopefully I've found the right place, finally.

I've had nothing but problems, since installing 1.74, the HOF mod, and trying to play the GOTM.

I've had to jump through a lot of hoops, download direct x9c, etc, etc, and I"m right back where I started with "the save file you selected is protected to ensure the assets in the mod folder are protected", whenever I try to load the GOTM file.

I am using vanilla Civ 4 1.74, and have no other mods/addons, etc, etc. I have no clue what else could be wrong.

I appreciate any help, as I've been waiting two days to start, as is.

Have you read my reply today in one of the other threads you posted it in?
