HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

I didn't install over another version, I did a fresh install using the install path

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

Instead of the default one. I did this because this is where the HOF mod installs to. All the shortcuts seem to be correct as well, and it's not booting weather I double click on the save or load the mod first and then open the save. It says the assets are different.

I might have to try uninstalling and reinstalling again =(

Are you get the error where it fails to open the save or just the HOF Warnings which can be ignored for GOTM?

I got the error when I tried to open the game. I went back home for thanksgiving, so I can't try to reinstall until tomorrow, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the reinstall magically fixes it.

If you do reinstall. Don't forget to delete anything left behind after you uninstall.

Any idea when BtS games will come out of Beta and what form it will take?
We are getting closer. With the latest releases we have now have the ability to differentiate between UN and AP Diplomatic victories. One way or another we will be adding a new "Religious" Vicory Condition to the HOF for AP victories.

Yeah, nice to have all the new mods :goodjob: .

Pity you didn't block some events (you know what i mean) .
Still, RE are always optional IIRC... right?

Now waiting for the new BtS-HoF.
BTW, how you'll take care of the SS?

Release notes:
fixed Partisans Event - requires city owner to be in Emancipation

By the way, is there an assets checker for BTS?

Sorry to be thick, but can you explain in words that a low IQ person can understand, what I need to do now with these mods.

1. I have installed BtS
2. I have not yet patched it to 3.13 because of all the dramas
3. I want to be able to easily play the latest GOTMs and HoF submissions for vanilla and warlords

So, what do I need to install now, and what fiddling around is still going to be required to play certain games?

1.: download 3.13
2.: install it
3.: download HOF-Mod-3.13.001 and the new Vanilla and Warlords HOF-Mods as well...
4.: install them
5.: play
6.: submit
7.: enjoy :)

So if I do that, I won't need to play around with any dlls? Will things effectively be the same as they were before that 3.13 patch came out?

the dlls that the GOTM-team wants you to download are the ones that 3.13 installs into the Vanilla and Warlords installs - so you need them if you do not have BtS 3.13...

Yes.

Find the link at the bottom of the New Mods announcement thread

This version also tells you which files are wrong.

Yeah, GOTM is working just fine for me now.

I think i forgot to delete the files from the my documents\my games folder on the last install and one of these prevented it from working.

So thanks Denniz, I forgot about that folder until you reminded me to delete all the old files.

As for BTS... I haven't picked up BTS yet, but I will if there's a GOTM. I don't know if I like the idea of random events for free great persons in Civ 4, but if elements of BTS are unbalanced I'm sure that can be handled by ramping up the difficulty...

I downloaded all 3 new hof mod versions yesterday and installed and then the pain starts. I had to reconfigure all 3 ".ini" files to match the previous settings, especially to configure "map-finder".

Because I don't want to launch each civ version I opened the old ini-files in one notepad and the new one in another notepad and "cut&paste"'d my settings. This is annoying

My suggestion: At least one short line saying "Just copy your previous ini-file over and change the line hof-version to xxxx"

Another question: Can I exchange the ini-files between Vanilla, Warlord and BtS?
If not this is my suggestion number 2

Thanks for all the Hof things :goodjob:

Did you know that the Map Finder utility will set the paths to it install folder when you start it and pick a Civ4 Version? It is not a perfect solution but it is something.

It is difficult to find a balance that everyone is comfortable with. We have to take into concideration different people's comfort level with Windows and things like notepad and cut & paste. With new patches and HOF Mod features the ini files are not necessarily the same with each new release. It is generally not a good idea copy the old one.

Personally, I tend to cut & paste the Map Finder paths and use the Game Options to set everything else. It is safer that way. ;)

They are not the same. Even if we made everything else the same, the mod name probably can't be. So we would be back to cut & paste. There is no perfect solution. In the end, it is better for us to keep it simple and let people use the Game Options.

To be honest I never use the mapfinder utility directly. I created a rules file once and use it since several months now.

I see your points and I think I will stay as a "cut&paste" guy because I just want to have the same settings as before without doing any prints.

Hmm - so perhaps "copy it over and change the mod-name"? This would be nice for the "cut&paste" guys :)

The Map Finder utility is saving all my BtS games as .CivBeyondSwordSaves rather than .Civ4SavedGame and they're not showing up in MapFinder.exe until I manually rename each save game.
