Sommerswerd asked me to change this
"There appears to me too much politics in some of this," said Lybeth Hodges, a professor of history at Texas Woman's University and another of the curriculum reviewers.
You don't say...

No, there really wouldn't. Whatever disputes over educational content did exist would be far more intelligent and substantial, and probably rooted in professional disagreements about things like different theories of education and such. This is because there wouldn't be psychotic anti-intellectual cranks with no qualifications muddying the waters with this sort of idiocy in the name of waging a bloody "culture war".
If you don't think that there would be nutty teachers filling the void in this then I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
Well you can agree to keep being wrong if you want.
Of course they're are. And the other teachers, as professionals, are going to feel free to ignore them.
I say if they go through with it, the Federal government decertify Texas public schools for all purposes. That is, all "graduates" of the Texas public schools are listed as non-graduates for any Federal employment, including the military. None are considered graduates for application to the military academies. No student aid for college. No Federal money for the schools. Let the families pay for remedial education if they want their kids to be considered graduates. We'll see who runs the board of ed after a few years of that.
The three reviewers appointed by social conservatives on the board all say students should study more original documents, rather than relying on a textbook author to interpret them. The current standards rely too much on supplementary material such as poetry, folktales and art, they say, and too little on original documents and historical narratives.
So I'm wrong for thinking that in any occupation (educators included) you're going to have nuts on both sides of an argument?
You don't think there will be teachers, who are professionals, that will take up each side of this?
I'm thinking that the simplest solution to the Democracy/Republic debate would be to invent a new word/phrase for the purpose, just as the NSW Board of Studies does. Let's call the American system an 'operational freedom integration framework', and teach all the little Texans to respect and defend the beauty of operational freedom integration frameworks all over the world.
Yes. Punish the children.
Compared to these kooks? Seriously? You're seriously telling me that you think you're as likely to get education professionals and public servants inserting this sort of stupid nonsense into cirricula as you are when some bloody priest gets elected? What rot.
I think the mistake you're making here is seeing "two sides" arguing as though there's two equally valid views here... as opposed to a gang of psychotic priests and wingnuts trying to ruin sensible cirricula in the name of their "culture war".
you know, schools should only teach stuff to educate our children without any influence in government.. just education on everything, not one side views of a liberial or a democratic.
The way I understood his post, he was saying that schools should teach all sides of an issue, not just cater to one political view.Judging by your own tenuous grasp over the English language, basic governmental policy and simple critical thinking, you'll excuse me if I politely disregard your opinion.

After all, it's not the job of a school to indoctrinate the students. It's the job of the schools to teach kids the information and have them draw their own conclusions.
