Winter is beyond laggy... the last time I tried it it totally froze!

And don't forget, in the winter, crashes are all too common.

On the 9th I won't be able to play until I get home from work and then put my kid to bed. I can't decide whether to read the forums before then or not!

The only reason I wouldn't want to read the forums are "I tried it, was disappointed". I wouldn't want to get started with any negative expectations.

I do take comfort that for all those people getting their expectations up really high, some will confine themselves to GD and the rants thread. Easy to ignore while the rest of us figure out how to blend the new mechanics into existing/new strategies.

Last year I read and contributed to the "First Impressions" thread. I don't remember a whole lot of negativity. I doubt there will be that much this time either.

Eh, it's weird... I remember being very worried about Civ V becoming full of poorly executed features like BtS turned out to be when I first heard about Tourism and Archaeology. ITRs sounded a lot like silly micromanagement. But now that we know how these features work they all sound very well thought-out and I am definitely excited to see how they play out in the game itself!

I'm way more excited for BNW than I was for G&K.
Didn't care for Austria or Netherlands.

Can't wait for it to come out, but the good thing is I been sick so I have a couple of games I'm behind that are keeping me busy. :borg::borg::borg::borg::borg::borg::borg:

I'm throwing my money at the monitor, but nothing is happening!!!

I thought waving my cards would work...to no avail either!

Very excited, the culture/tourism change is how I've always imagined it to be! For once my pen IS mightier than your swords!

Warmongering nerf is good, but I'll still enjoy destroying every civ on my continent just for the heck of it, even if it means losing.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't really go for a victory. That said, a science victory is by far the easiest imo.

Hold on a sec, there is a warmongering nerf? Culd you please supply us with a source? Still, science victory isn't as easy, actually. May need a nerf, but doubt it.

On topic, I am excited myself to play it, but not crazy, because I have stuff to do (this is my first preorder ever though! Yay). But luckily, it's on Friday, so all good. Need to DL it asap and leave overnight, though (because at midnight GMT not much will DL, but a t 8am it's totally different), because the traffic increases as fast as our human population in recent 50 years, so I need to do it early if I want to play.

Has it been that long?
Seems like only yesterday.

And ya, there were some pretty troll posts in the first impressions thread, but tbh they were expecting a whole new game. The AI didn't become godlike as some expected, however I wouldn't want to go back to vanilla under any circumstances.

I'm just mentally moving the release date to August in my mind and considering the July 9th bit to be a pre-order perk or something. It's probably safe to assume at least 3 major bugs and a decent possibility of 1 showstopper.

"...looking forward to it, but not crazy."

I am looking foreword to this expansion. I love that they are adding international trade routs, it only makes scene.

Do we need "Tourism", another earn x# of resource per turn for this gain. kind of plays like a combination of Social Policies & religion.

How Do Ideologies differ from Social Policies? they seem like the same thing.

Ideologies are branches. Social policies are particular acquisitions.
As for ideological tenets and SoPols, they are the same thing. They're more powerful than social policies, but they can be taken away from you if your culture succumbs to the tourism of another civ with a different ideology.

Speaking of just the ideology, regardless of the tenets, the same goes in the other direction. If you have good tourism you can harm other civs with a different ideology.
