The Hansa seem to have a thing for whipping Denmark and then colonizing the New World. Or getting conquered themselves.
Yeah, they do. It annoys me. That's why I was happy the Danes were doing well in my Iroquois game. Until they conquered me.
In this game, the Swedes have proven remarkably inept at warfare, despite their apparent success. They continually run up huge war weariness conquering Sibir and Nogai of all civilizations, and keep losing to the Hansa, too. It was especially bad the most recent time - they had gained Sjaelland and Skåne, and then ceded Halland and some New World territory.

Had they actually tried, I'm sure they would have won long-term.
OH MY, THE OTTOMANS!
EPIC!!
You need to post this in the Paradox forums...strange screenshots thread!
Ottomans that big...and in vanilla? that's really awesome!
Also, who are you playing as? Considering you seem to be a christian country with low tech...are you that greek country?
I am indeed Athens. I'm quite pleased to see a successful Ottomans, too... I just wish it had happened when I wasn't their next-door neighbor. I'd planned to recreate Alexander's empire, but when your next door neighbors have pretty much done that already, it becomes somewhat more difficult.
But it's now the late 1620's, and things have progressed. I opportunistically declared war on the Ottomans when they were embroiled in a war with the Austrians over west Africa, and my Lithuanian allies were more than willing to help out. My superior navy blocked the Bosporus. Meanwhile, the part I had neglected the last time, the north-across-the-Black-Sea crossing, also worked out as the Ottomans and Horde had a truce. So, my one-fifth to one-eight-the-size army was able to win a decisive victory. Lithuania regained two lost provinces, my Wallachian allies gained Silestria, I gained Edirne, and Bosnia gained independence (only to be vassalized again, by Croatia, very quickly). But Ottoman lovers need not fear, the Ottomans defeated the Mamluks twice more, Persia once, annexed Ragusa, and also won their long, bitter war with the Austrians. So they gained more than they lost. Now they appear to be settling the Horde lands, ensuring they can reinforce the northern front next time.
I've gone very Free Subjects and Innovative, as well as Free Market, and have now gained technological equality (and generally, slight superiority) over the Ottomans. West Europe is still more advanced, of course, but they aren't gaining much if at all.
I've also conquered Corfu, and vassalized the Knights. Cyprus is also my vassal, but revolutionaries overthrew my puppet regime, and I'm still rebuilding relations with the new regime. I've gained access to the markets of Hormuz and Kutch, significantly increasing my wealth.
Lithuania has been expanding eastward, as have the Swedes (mostly ineptly). Pisa has conquered Kongo, and the Dutch formed again. They did for the first time around 1420, but Burgundry and France conquered them. They did again in the early 1600's. They picked too many fights with Switzerland and uber-uber-powerful Bohemia, and are currently weak.
France lost another war, leading Castille forming. So I now have Portugal, Galicia, Spain, Aragon, and Castille all in existance, I believe in that order of appearance. But France has started to recover, and has exacted exorbitant sums from the minor French powers for their continued existance. Britain is also picking on the minor French powers, retaking Labourd and threatening to conquer Normandy.
Further east, Brunei is now conquering Vietnam, and Hindustan is facing rebellions due to handling their wars with Chagatai in a similar manner to how Sweden handles theirs with Sibir. I'm wondering if the game doesn's have some difference that makes Russia, Lithuania, Khorasan, and some others fairly decent at colonizing the hordes, and powers that aren't really supposed to like Sweden and Hindustan pretty bad at it. Sure seems like it this game.
Oh, and the Ottomans have the mission, "Conquer southern Greece." They have a regent and tons of war weariness now, but it makes me somewhat nervous. Maybe I should cancel my alliance with Wallachia so that if they declare war, they can't conquer Wallachia and reinforce the front against me.
