How is your EU3 Game going?

Playing as France starting with the coronation of Louis XIII (1610) I began by bullying Spain (annexed the Spanish Netherlands and Franche-Comte whilst my spies set up rebellions in Galicia and Navarra, both of which are now semi-independent). I then rebuilt for an all-out war against the Ottomans (who were laying siege to Vienna). I flooded their land with around 80,000 men (beyond my support limit, and they died by the bucket-load) and managed to secure independence for Transylvania, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania and Bulgaria. About a decade later the Austrians (who were by then my allies) declared war on the Ottomans (and I joined in as the truce was long gone) and an Ottoman super-army annihilated us both in a single battle (I lost 75,000 men and the Austrians lost 30,000, the Ottomans lost 60,000 but had plenty of men left over). Just then, with my army completely destroyed, Spain declared war on me, dragging along Portugal, England, Venice, Denmark and Wurzburg.

"****." I said.

Ouch.

Anyone ever have an Orthodox Astrakan? The Golden Horde in my game tried converting an Orthodox province, and wound up getting 2/3rds of their territory forced converted to Orthodox (via rebels). So, I decided to help them out a little bit and liberate a few countries. Thus, Orthodox Astrakan.

Also, Ryukyu, believe it or not, now controls Aden. Apparently, they got it in 1572. How that happened, I don't know - I wasn't even allied with them. I no longer see any evidence of a ship, or unit in that province (they probably went bankrupt).

"Feels threatened by Yemen" - well, obviously!

Is there a way to get the world map function to function in HTTT? For some reason there is no screenshots folder or anything, I can't find where it's supposedly saving the pic to. It did pop-up ingame and tell me it was taking the picture, etc., but I can't find the file.

Using Vista or Window7? Go to the EU3 folder and click on the top tab saying "compatibility files" and a screenshot folder should show up.

yaaaaaay! It worked! :D

Crazy stuff is happening.

In 1451 I was allied with Castille, France, and Austria; I declared war on nobody important later (Naples, I think) and they all abandoned me. :(

Here is the picture of Western Europe before they did so.

The orange blob is Trier, the light green Brabant. The Papal State exists only in Westfalien, having been driven out of Italy and France by an allied Urbino and France. Before Westfalien, it had existed in Anhalt. I know not what force drove them out of there. The blue in Italy is Urbino, except for Pisa, which belongs to Venice.

Poland is rather... stretched. China is also stretched.
India has been divided between the Bengals, Delhi and Deccan tribes.
The Timurids still exist, somehow.
Granada, Portugal and Aragon have been gobbled up. Portugal and Aragon exist, but barely.

I am now only allied with Austria. Serbia is my vassal, but as I have a core on their province due to a border dispute, I intend to declare war and annex them ASAP.

The Mamluks have been erased from the face of the Earth, and their land now belongs to Syria, a nation I created with my nefarious spies. I also stole all that land east/south of Mus with spies - the Timurid Empire was rather vulnerable.

The land west of Egypt belongs to Tripoli and Algiers.

Within 20 years I plan to annex Syria to connect all my Middle-Eastern provinces more thoroughly.

Who united South East Asia?

EDIT: And also, China

And the world

EU3_MAP_ITA_175283_1.jpg

Originally I was aiming for creating a new Rome, but as you can see my balkanization of europe took me away from that path.

Currently I have a huge Brandenburg, Austria, Hungary, Normandy and Brittany as my vassals, besides that most of the little german minors are either vassals or get invaded on a regular basis for money:devil:

I was very late to the colonization race of the world that is why I have settled for the Swahili area and somalia, and are currently preparing war with the mamluks so I can control the red sea and alexandria.

My reverse warzawa pact in eastern europe is because of Russia, they are big and scary and despite me donating money to them on a regular basis, I like to have some defences ready if they should declare war. That why Poland got petitioned into Austria/brandenburg and Krakow

France, Aragorn and Portugal have all moved their capitals to the new world, and France have infact been completely banished from Europe.

My whole balkanization scheme came to me when I realized how useless OPM-vassals are in waging war, and since i know from prior games that especially Brandenburg and Austria can field massive armies I wanted to make them usefull. It just took off from there. Normandy and Brittany have become my lapdogs of the seas, keeping my waters clear of enemies(combined they can keep Great Britain locked down on the island).

I have already planned the final three states that are allowed in europe: Champagne gets the alsace-lorraine area, Hesse gets south germany, and Holland/Netherlands/brabant gets north western europe. While Italy keeps pushing the Ottomans out of anatolia(I am also thinking about making them my vassal in the Georgia/armenia area). And finally algier are to become my vassal in north Africa, ranging from Tripoli and westwards.

It feels good to be nation building like this:ar15:

Nice :)

Does the Byz Empire have any special trait that makes it better for play? I never played EU3.

Both Crashing way too frequently for me to properly enjoy them.

Just upgraded to HttH from vanilla! So I was enjoying all the new features; first attempted a Scotland game that I had to restart about 20 times (kept dying to England, also I was a bit rusty having not played for a year). Anyway, managed to conquor the British Isles, Iceland and then hopped over to NA and colonised everything. And I mean everything, I got involved in Colonial wars and kicked Portugal and Castille (allied) out of every single Atlantic island and colony they attempted to found in the Americas. So I owned the entire thing. Then I got bored and colonised SA...Then I conquored India, and a lot of china, and I'm currently passing the time colonising Australia and the Pacific Islands. Its early 1700's now and the game has become too easy, but it crashes every couple of months soooooo

I started a Byz game, and taking advantage of the Ottoman problems waited until the Timurids had wiped out a few armies and I had built up my fleet and army, I managed to take the majority of their European Possessions and then they succumbed to small country death when about 15 of them attacked. Which was good for me as I was able to take their Anatolian possessions too! At the moment I'm trying to take the rest of greece but I'm finding it difficult as the muslims have formed a super league of doom (mamuluks, Timurids and ALL the minors bordering me) that attacks me when I twitch, and hungry/Venice (who I'm trying to dislodge from Greece) making it impossible to expand or gain allies with them...*sigh* I'm sure I'll work through it.

EDIT: @Kyriakos The Byz's have claims all over the place which makes the start quite good going for rapid expansion, and they also have a lot of missions to reclaim bits and pieces of land, just need to get past the bumpy start really.

use spies on Venice's Greek posessions. Patriots and Nationalists will become your best friends.

Well, here's my game that I just recently picked back up (if anyone remembers, it was my Holland game).

Here's the world in 1730

Oddities:
-Khiva
-Morocco
-China/Manchu only looks the way it is because it got it's ass kicked by an uber-powerful Chagatai. They collapsed (as you can see), but the entire area is still Muslim :)

And here's my Netherland's empire

Unlimited spies and money brought this about in 5 short years without any military involvement whatsoever.

The year is 1715. I'm the Sultanate of Adal.

QsmC9.png

I thought I'd have a go at someone in Africa. Adal seems to be the only African tech country that doesn't start in Tribal. I reloaded a ton to survive in the first few decades, while slowly taking Ethiopia one small piece at a time. After the annexation of Mutapa and its gold mines and three rounds of Westernization, things really started to get interesting.

Some oddities: the Huron is still alive. England, Great Britain and Northumberland are all existing at the same time, Great Britain having adopted a wandering sort of lifestyle, colonizing or conquering new land as Castile slowly encroaches on its existing territories. That green in Peru is Northumberland, which had only recently conquered the Incans. The Holy Roman Empire was formed, but Austria stayed out and the Empire collapsed in about 1650s and now only hold Burgundy. Orleans has moved to Brittany, and had conquered part of Britain and North America. France reemerged from near oblivion to become the fifth strongest power in Europe. There's some crazy warfare in East Asia as you can see. Lan Xang still dominates Southeast Asia despite being partitioned by me a few years ago.

Adal is the richest country in the world, but seriously lags behind the two major European powers in military might (the combined armies of Castile and Austria outnumbered Adal's by about six to one). The only other powers able to challenge Adal are Russia and the Ottomans, and possibly Japan.

I really like to start a world war. Which way should I expand?

Played a Venice game in IN for about 2 centuries. In the end Venice was so diverted from expanding Caribbean and "Venetian Main" territories, not to mention bloody wars in the never quite completely subjugated Mali Africa that it failed to see Austria make a dramatic come back from being reduced to a minor kingdom. Those "military access" cancelations are a warning, though! Soldiers in white coats and fancy red hats like a model from Cosmopolitan magazine might look funny, but they bite in large numbers.

Also the Protestant reformation struck even in the port of Venice, converting its 1 million residents ( I LoL'd) as well as Crete. But not after loyal Mali and Ifni citizens were fully integrated into the Lombardi culture.

High points were the capture of Liguria, and owning several gold, fur, and salt rich regions. A long alliance with Castille was also profitable, and didn't require an arm and a leg.

The innovative spirit of Venice helped get it going, but also stifled missionary conversions which was the main failing of Venice due to vast holdings of Islamic-Mali territory. Said Italy was a pointless dream when you could just depopulate the new world and make it Lombardi.

I'm now trying again with the MMP mod.

After a couple of false starts as Aragon, I think I have a keeper:

Spoiler :
eu3aragon.jpg

I need to declare on Castile soon so that there's no possibility of them recovering, but those rebel armies are pretty large. The one in former Portuguese territory is Portuguese nationalist, which is nice. I need to wait for my infamy to drop some anyway.

Can anyone explain how Champainge, a landlocked vassal with only 2 core provinces, can gain Orkney (island north of Scotland) from Norway? That happened in my recent game.

Maybe they got it from their master?

Or succession through royal marriage?

I was just thinking later that they could've had a vassal at some point when I vassalized them. I've seen some strange vassal-of-a-vassal action before.
