How is your Victoria Game going?

I have already converted three other people to Paradoxism.

One plays CK2.
One plays EU3 (I gave him my free copy)
One plays Vicky 2.

Since none of them play any of the others, I can't establish any order of popularity. Meh.

And TBH, I always thought Vicky was the least known Paradox series (except for Svea Rike, Sengoku, and those other random games)

I think Vicky 2 got quite a big following on

compared to other pdox games.

So I guess his classmates might be those kinds of people.

With how numbers-y Victoria is compared to the others, I assumed so as well.

Victoria II becomes a lot easier once you realize it is Excel with a fancy GUI.

That sucks, it means your friends aren't nerds :(

My condolences.

To make this on-topic: Are there any reviews out for HoD yet?

I've heard HoD is great outside the dominion issue. Still going to wait until its 75% off in six months.

I bought it yesterday and in an impulse buy bought CK2+all DLC, curse you Steam!

Just get it, it's really really good.

I don't really play Vicky much, but I'll be sure to when I do get back into it. I was just curious to see what people were saying about it. :)

It's been ages since I last played Vicky, so I'm still busy getting back over that initial brick wall and it's hard to tell what's new and
But I have to say that the newspaper feature alone is fricking awesome. These games have always really struggled to show pertinent information about what's going on in the world in a filtered way that doesn't overload you with useless info, and the newspapers seem to do a pretty nice job of it.

Anyway maybe I'm just blind but I'm trying to buffer some factories against shortages of import goods by buying a big stockpile, and I'm sure there's a button somewhere that lets factories buy from the stockpile, but I cannot find it anywhere on the trade screen. Has this been moved/removed or something?

I had to fight the urge to impulse buy HoD, as well as Republic/Legacy of Rome for CK2.

Really, ever since I bought a game that went 75% off the next day, I've refused to pay full price at release for most games. The good games tend to be popular/have decent modding communities 6-12 months later anyway.

On topic, is A Pop Divided supposed to be so buggy? Mind you, I find it enjoyable when it does work, but every 4-5 years I have to restart the game due to UI issues.

APD isn't buggy, you need more RAM. I can normally go a decent 100 years before it. gets buggy

So... the whole game, or does APD push the start back now?

Whole game, most of the time unless I've been loading multiple saves in which case at around 100 years total I start getting that

I have 12 gigs of RAM, more RAM than I possibly need. The game doesn't run slow for five years, then the autosaves suddenly begin to take three minutes and the UI glitches. Reloading fixes both.

And you are running a 64-bit OS?

Similar problem: I have a 64-bit OS, and APD slows down after a few mid-to-late game years and crashes to desktop randomly; don't have that problem in the base game.

Is there an option I have to click to optimize APD for a Windows 8 64-bit system?

No idea then, my games are normally fine.

I run a 64-bit OS as well, and while APD does slow down a fair bit after ~1890, it's not unbearable and the game doesn't CTD.
