How is your Victoria Game going?

Anyone is my guess. With the overhaul of the game any choice should be a fun and new experience. Of course if you haven't played any Vic2 before then it might be better to choose a country Belgium. This always used to be considered a good starting choice as you were in a good place to industrialise and also get to grips with diplomacy etc.

Return from the shallow grave, thread!
So I got AHD and Heart of Darkness. Who should I play as?

Serbia has struck me as someone who can benefit from the crisis system. They'll be the first I'll play as when I get heart of Darkness.

So I've seen exactly one crisis so far.
UK and US over Idaho, a uncolonized state at the time.
Lasted a day.
Whelp.
EDIT: Same game, currently 1861. Thessalian crisis occured. UK, Japan (Me), Prussia, Greece vs. Russia, Ottoman Empire and France, with Italy undecided. 180 days from war. Since I'm currently playing (and typing via steam browser) I'll edit after it's over and give an idea of what it's like.
Final EDIT: At the end of July 1862, the crisis ended in Greece's favour.
What I'm leaving out is the War.
It lasted about a year.
Some highlights for your entertainment or all that happened in this war:
- French offensive in Westphalia, ended under occupation for the rest of the war
- Prussian offensive in the Baltics and Poland against Russia, which went better than Westphalia for them.
- Britain invades Iraq via Kuwait. Sound familiar? :p
- Battles in what was once Korea (now nicely divided into North (Russia) and South (Me), with me losing at the start but coming back with a modernized army
- Joint Anglo-Japanese offensive in Alaska
- I invade parts of eastern Siberia.
no actual fighting in greece.

no actual fighting in greece.

HoD looks like a ton of fun, though I'm going to wait for a super cheap complete pack before buying it. I'm assuming the summer sale might have one.

It's fun. I assume the newspaper aspect is new, it's great but a bit repetitive (although it tells you who's scared of who etc.)
Crises are really interesting and can ruin a nation's day, just ask Austria.

I checked out the colonization mechanics and the crisis mechanics, and it looks like they have incorporated significant ideas from Pride of Nations into the Victoria franchise, which is just awesome.

Looking forward to playing it when I can.

Can someone explain to me why Victoria seems to be the most well-known Paradox Interactive game? I was playing Hearts of Iron II in my school, and I got several comments to the tune of "that game looks a lot like Victoria".

I'm not displeased with this, any recognition of Paradox games is good in my book, but I'm curious as to why Victoria is so much more well-known among the general public as opposed to the HoI or EU series.

I figured EU was the most popular, actually. Anybody know the sales figures? A quick google search didn't turn anything up.

I don't have stats, but yeah, EU is their flahship series.

I would think CKII would be more well known that Vicky, just because of its seemingly large presence on Steam, but I could be wrong.

Update on the Japan game:
It's 1875, and a war has broken out over the liberation of Poland from Russia.
UK vs Russia, Me, France and Sweden.
Sweden opted out (the fools) and I've singlehandedly decided to take warscore into my own hands.
In lieu of this, I set up the most complex battleplan since ever. Spanning all continents with a British presence (read: all of them), in 4 different stages that I did not necessarily adhere to.

(yes, yes, I cheated, I'm just trying to get the hang of the mechanics, sorry, sorry etc. etc. I'm not showing off any achievements, I'll save that for a legit game. Right now it's just the battle plan)
Spoiler :

The war plans in Asia. The green arrow leads on to Australia and reads "Operation Uesugi"

War plans in Europe. My plan was to land a force in France, make sure the way to England was clear, and cause havoc. The operation into Sweden was not necessary BECAUSE THEY CHICKENED OUT.

Operation White Star or as I like to call it "let's annoy Canada" (which doesn't actually exist, but Columbia does)

And now a random newspaper clipping:

The newspaper system could use a bit of work tbh. Once, I saw the headline for a crisis regarding the Aegean islands with right next to it the resolution. Or the one above, with armistice right next to me declaring war on Yemen.

I'd always thought Europa Universalis was their flagship series as well. Although Crusader Kings may be starting to rival it with CKII's success.

Whether Victoria or HOI would be more popular, I'm not sure. HOI is probably more hardcore, but probably also benefits from the general interest in WWII.

where did you find the war plans thingie in vicky ?

oh i see.
i only have AHD. i do intend to get it sometime later on . . . . in the next 6 months

Crusader Kings II is more well-known among my friends than other Paradox games because Game of Thrones is popular where I live. The order of visibility of Paradox games among my friends is CKII->HoI3->Victoria 2->EU3.

HoD is awesome. I've never really played Vicky 2, I always thought it had potential, but it was never quite developed enough. HoD I think has finally made Vicky 2 a great game.

Speaking of which... Am I the only one who's seen a colonization contest go into the 100's? (Because I currently have a screenshot showing France, UK and Tanganyika (my old Dominion before COMMUNISM) contesting Benin, with Tanganyika severely behind, as in Tangayika is at level 10, France at level 105 and Britain topping the gamewide record at 106.)
