Let's be honest, probably less than half of all the votes are even true.

I've tested IQ between 160-180 - do you believe me?

I don't believe any of you.

I could show you my perfect GRE score. I still have the paper. My ego needs it for validation. Please?

;)

hilarious how close to 20% think they are in the top 1%

i guess you all are smart enough to know what that means, so i wont spell it out for you :mischief:

Yeah! The worlds smartest people play Civ! :smug:

I'm probably the top 40% but that's just me. Probably a little lower and obviously not anything to boast about or anything.

I know I was ranked into the top .5% in national testing back in the day (no divisions beyond that (AFAIK)), so I rounded to .1%, being closer than a lousy 1% :mischief: . In hindsight, 1% may have been more reasonably conservative. I suppose that places my ego well above TLC's ;).

(Whoa - and it looks like my ego/overestimation absolutely dwarves Steph's - give yourself some credit, man! You placed top 5% in an engineering school entrance exam and you're calling it 10% of genpop?!? That's beyond modesty. Being able to find the engineering school on a map probably broke 10%. As a fellow engineer, I demand that you adopt a far more elitist attitude towards the unwashed masses! ;) )

:rotfl:

I might be in the top 5%, i'm just not sure. so i voted top 10% to be on the safe side.

Apparently, I'm one of the five dumbest people on the planet.:woohoo:

Let's examine why I'm one of the dumbest people on the planet.
1)I pay over $1400 month in rent - dumb
2)I pay over $1000 month in assorted bills - dumber
3)I support myself instead of letting mommy and daddy support me - dumbest
4)Whenever my mother hits me up for money, I give it to her - dumb x100000

It's a good thing I have a good job, otherwise I'd be poor and dumb !!!#11!:crazyeye:

That's because the question is about intelligence in general. So I consider it can alos include linguistic or artistic skills, and I have none of the latest for once. Or I'm not diplomat at all, as my co workers know it to well. So as a general point of view, I consider a top 10% is good.

If it comes to intelligence dealing with mathematic / physics or programming, then I think top 1% is reasonable.

I'd think at least the top 10%, taking everything into account. I took my average percentile or so in standarized tests, then added a fudge factor because I would be compared with people who haven't taken any standardized tests recently.

One thing I've always noticed when the topic is intelligence is people say things like:

Well I got (insert some good score) on the SATs, but that really doen't measure intelligence...

Well I got (blah blah some good score) on an online IQ test, but those tests really don't measure intelligence...

Well I took this scientific intensive IQ test at a University and got (blugh blugh blugh some score), which is genius level apparently, but all those tests really test is your ability to take them...

Well I've always had a 4.0 in school (LMAO EVEN THOUGH I PROCRASTINATE SOOOO MUCH IM SO LAZY I NEVER DO HOMEWORK AND JUST GET A's ON EVERY TEST)... but grades dont' really test your intelligence, just your general knowledge of the material and study skills.

My question is... what the heck does indicate intelligence?

dumbest person on the planet

Intelligence is not a unidimensional variable. You can be the finest politician and be the dumbest in science. Being a good strategist in one field doesn't necessarily make you a good strategist in another. Otherwise the world would be dominated by Khaspov and Kasparov.

I'm in the upper 99%. Pretty sure about that.

Unfortunately, that is as specific as I can get.

It occurs to me that people's thoughts of what intelligence is may be influenced by thier own strengths. A person who is a mathematical genius may think that math is the true measure of intelligence while a terrific author may think ability to write is. Thus we may see a true reflection of one's standing within thier best abilities.

Perfection's reasoning skills > more than 99.9% of everyone :smug:

I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.

Although this thread is about being smart.. not about knowledge.

I'm smart.. I think... but sooooooooooooo LAZY. I rather watch TV all day than study.

I voted 'dumbest person on the planet'.. just because I just wrote that I'm smart.. and that makes you dumb. :p
