I asked this in the quick question sticky, but I didn't get a satisfactory answer.
I thought this would be a good place to ask, since many people here do screenshots.

How do I make proper screenshots?

When I print screen, the screenshots is placed in a folder in the civ-folder.
However, they have the GUI hidden. :(

How can I make the gui visible on the screenshots?

Unfortunately, Failaxis has abandoned us so you'll have to use your own method.

After hitting print-screen, load up MS Paint and just paste into there, then save.

Is this the process you are using?

Does it require you to play in windowed mode?

It is odd that some folks have this issue and not others. I wonder if it is pc or os specific.

Anyway, this should probably go in the tech forum, which may get you a solution.

Good idea, I posted there now.

I am using windows 7.

I was convinced my folders were corrupted of some sort. Good to know it is a generalized problem. :)

it is a generalized problem. :)

I'm not so sure it is generalized - not that it doesn't happen to a few folks. Never heard of this problem until I think obs brought it up not too long ago. I've never had it and know of few who have.

krikav - I run Win7 too. Probably not OS related, but may be some other PC specific issue. I wonder if security has something to do with it. I always change security to full for all civ related folders, which basically bypasses UAC. However, some people install civ on the c: root which achieves the same thing. Maybe that is messing up the screenshots though.

Unfortunately, Failaxis has TOO MANY generalized problems. I do what I can...

I don't know about disappearing GUIs, but I have noticed a difference when I name a SS and then hit enter vs. clicking accept. I think it's alt-print scn to name your SS? Can't remember for sure.

Hmmm, I get a missing UI when I try to use that Giant Earth Mod. I think the issue has something to do with BUG, for me. Some of the other UI mods may be suspect as well. I may have to re-visit this issue again as I really want to play that dam Mod.

Your process works perfecly fine for me, I get the GUI when I manually paste them into PAINt.
Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, once in a while my newbie advice does something productive for someone... amazing.

If your system can take screen shots, use that instead of the game's method. I have a trackball that allows me to assign functions to various buttons and combos of them. I've assigned the screen shot to a combo and it captures all of the screen including the UI, even in full screen mode.

Having never used it, I don't know. However, I have seen frequent posts asking where the game saves its screenshots, so I just assumed that there was such a thing. I may very well be wrong. My system and trackball software let me decide where the screen shot saves go, again leading me to believe that there was a built in function in the game that I was not using. If there isn't, then I freely admit my error.

really, I was just curious. I've always use the print screen function on the keyboard. However, I see some folks with screenies in which they display info from context menus or hovering over units. I can't do that with print screen. I don't know...maybe they are using a 3rd party deal

Press print screen without using shift.
Shift+print screen allows naming of screenshots, but does not add whatever you're hovering over.

At least been the case for me on 2 different OS.

I had the problem with the GUI missing from my screenshots, but lowering the graphics settings gave the GUI on screenshots. Could be system specific.

The simplest method is to place your Civ in Steam (which you can do even if you didn't buy it on Steam) and use the in-game screenshot function it has. You'll have to rebind it for Civ, as it's F5 by default.
