How would you change history?

The West helped Russia in the Crimean war?

I'll stick to reading real books about it when I have them, thanks, like Royle. I don't see much "help" for Russia in the Crimean War.

So the USSR would have had masses of oil and we would have needed their help for the Gulf War/ Don't like the sound of that one.

Assuming that the USSR would still exist if the Turks didn't get propped up during the Crimean War is rich.

USSR had lots of oil anyway.
Russia during the Crimean War would have at best gained Armenia and some of Balkans. I doubt it'd get as far as the oilfields - and even if so, and had it collapsed after ww1, had ww1 happened, Britain wouldn't let nascent Soviet states keep them.

Stop Og from killing Ru with a rock back in 150,000 B.C.

EDIT: Oh, whoops. 2 month bump. Well, too late now.

Would it lead to Ru's descendants saving the woolly mammoths from extinction ? Then it's got my vote.

But then all the woolly mammoths would run into my laundry line!

I would shoot stupid Lee Kuan Yew and all the jerks who wanted Singapore to have self-government. Without self-government, no independence, without that I wouldnot have to go to the Stupid National day celebration tomorrow....

DAMN YOU LEE!!!

You don't have to go,do you?

Lee Kuan Yew didn't want Singapore to become independent. He was convinced that it couldn't cope by itself, and burst into tears on live TV shortly after Malaysia kicked Singapore out - before pulling himself together and making the best of what was at the time a bad job. If you went back in time and shot him, Singapore would still become independent, but you can bet it wouldn't be in half as good a state as it is now.

The idea of a "national day" is still strange and rather unpleasant, though, of course.

School Celebration. I need to have a medical certificate or Im considered playing hookie.

Ahh yes, Crying Lee. True what you said. But Lee wanted self-governance and self-governance eventually led to independence. More importantly, he wanted British rule to end to appease the Communist supporters as well as the anti-colonial voters, which is why Lee joined Malaysia, which perfectly fit both his own ideals and that of his support.

I plan to shoot him in 1942 as a Japanese Soldier, and any capable person who wants to make Singapore a non-British territory. In my opinion, I would had preferred Self-government under the British flag like Hong Kong or Gibraltar. I get to keep all the benefits of self-rule and not let Singapore grow to be such a ridiculous society. (The people are sickeningly naive, narrow-minded and ignorant)

I have a sneaking suspicion that when Lee cried, it was tears of joys... (My master plan worked! I finally am the PM of my very own country!)

So are most people. At least Singaporeans are law-abiding and conscientious and, consequently, live in a largely pleasant and functional country. Come and spend a few years in the reeking, broken cesspit that is London some time and see what British rule is like to actually live under.

Honestly, some Singaporeans, especially younger ones, don't know how staggeringly lucky and privileged they are, perhaps because they have no real conception of what it is like to live in a country that isn't extremely wealthy and efficiently run. The number of Singaporeans I've known who whine about how boring it is to live in Singapore - within eyeshot of starving people living in squalid huts on the beaches of Indonesia. I'd rather live somewhere boring, containing naive and narrow-minded people, than somewhere filthy, containing violent and confrontational people.

I love living in Britain - it's a great place and so long as you play your cards right nobody will give you any trouble wherever you go. Lots of people say it's dangerous in places, and yes in some places if you just waltz through somewhere that you have no business being in then somebody is going to give you trouble, but you would challenge anyone who walked up to your fence and started looking around, so you need to bear that in mind. Having a reputation helps a lot, though

I can't imagine what kind of "reputation" protects you from knife-wielding muggers in the street or makes picking your way around the dog mess smeared over the pavement pleasant, so I suppose that just means I don't have one. Maybe that's why I don't have much sympathy for people who complain about living in countries where they don't have these little inconveniences.

I have one in that I got halfway through the traditional 'mugging gone wrong' scenario and the roles mysteriously reversed. You still walk around the dog mess wherever you are, I don't mind it since I never wore expensive shoes

Honestly, you can't be characterizing London in general this way, can you ? A lot must have changed since I was there. And if it has, it's got little to do with British rule.

I will spend a few years in the reeking, broken cesspool that is London! Im not complaining about Singapore's boredom or the functional ability of the country. Im complaining about the people and the society and the way they think! They have the will power of a bunny rabbit. Their thinking of how the world works "Everything is gonna be okay cause if I follow all this, stuff will fall into my lap". They have a god like reverence for authority and are spineless wimps. Ill rather be mugged by a brute than spend another day in the hypocritical society of that is Singapore.
