Ian made landfall nearly 2 hours ago and damn. It's slapped Florida super hard. Historically devastating storm. Reports of hundreds trapped on roofs at Naples, I've seen reports of homes being simply lifted off their foundations by the surge. Last night there were dozens of tornadoes in the outer bands, and tornado warnings continue to drop routinely up to now.
I think we're watching one of the many, many consequences of climate change. The amount of energy for hurricanes to feed on is increasing, extremely quickly by geologic standards.
More energy in the system --> more energy for hurricanes to pick up the ocean and dump it onto land.
