Saddam was clearly lawful evil, as ruler of his country he has to be lawful and the inhumane acts he committed classify him as evil. Pinochet on the the other hand gained power from a military junta so he's not completely lawful, and he committed atrocities that maybe not on the scale of Saddam are of similar magnitude, he's more neutral evil. Now why do you need to know, are you rolling a dictator for a new campaign or something?

hey this is a fun thread, can we do other people, as well as stats too? lets stick with the D&D system:

george bush junior:

chaotic good paladin/bard

INT 4
WIS 4
CHARISMA 20
STR 10
DEX 10
CONSTITUTION 20

he's a paladin cause hes a religious fanatic, he's a bard because he never fails to entertain with his hilarious blunders (+10 bonus to all perform checks), i'd have set int and wisdom to 3, but that's the scores that animals have, and he's barely above that. high constitution because his body handled all that cocaine and binge drinking back in the day with no problem. high charisma, cause lets face it, he'd make a great drinking buddy, and the guy is HILARIOUS.

Aren't dictators typically held up as examples of Lawful Evil? Being Lawful does not mean you have to obey the written law. All it means is that you have some sense of order, justice, or a moral code. A lawful person would be able to take part in or lead a rebellion if he either felt the government was evil, or had somehow forfeited it's right to rule. The lawful good would be someone who's sense of order was good oriented, lawful neutral is a lawyer who cares only about the letter of the law, and lawful evil is like lawful good, only twisted. That is my understanding at least.

So Saddam would in my opinion be Lawful Evil. If I remember correctly, he was careful to preserve the facade of legality for his government. Holding elections, establishing and enforcing laws, ect so he seems lawful. He was a harsh ruler and only liked Sunnis so that makes him evil.

Pinochet would strike me as Lawful Evil too. He overthrew a government he felt was corrupt and would lead to a political system he morally opposed, not because he woke up one morning and felt like taking over the country. He is lawful. He, like most dictators killed his enemies in copious quantities and probably didn't tolerate much dissent, so that would make him evil.

Hey, while we're talking D&D, Lemee add...
Genghis Khan
Lv 30 Warlord
Strength: 15
Dexterity:11
Constitution:20
Charisma:18
Wisdom: 16
Intelligence:18

He should also start with 2 classes in Magic Missile and 3 in Armor Proficiency.
He'd be Chaotic Evil.

I could argue that, since dictators are the law, they are by definition lawful.
And then I could argue that you don't understand D&D's alignment system. Alignment is about intention, not end result. If your intent is to make up new laws arbitrarily that support actions you intend to take, even if those actions are inconsistent with existing law, you are chaotic. It doesn't matter if you actually have the authority to change the law.

And you would be right.

Hussein is neutral evil, Pinochet is lawful good.

It's hard to believe anyone would support someone who tortured 27,000 people. You're really showing your true colors here.

I would have thought he had shown his true colors when he endorsed the actions of the Free Congo State myself.
