If I treat these children well, and make sure they don't get into trouble, the government should have no problem with it, right? There is no law against adopting foreign children, and adopting a child has a much shorter process than petitioning for a friend to come over. If I do this, my children wouldn't be considered illegal immigrants right?

What you could do is adopt 16- and 17-year-olds, who are still minors but have relatively lax labor laws applied to them in most states.
