well, and in the end, fairie-like elves, tolkien-like elves, and gnome-like elves... are all elves. But of different traditions.
An elf, two elves.
So I don't see any issue with the way it is spelled in FFH. Alfar, Alver, Alfer... it's all the same thing, it can be heard as exactly the same word if the 3 guys speaking them have different accents.

The creator of the original Fall from Heaven called his elves Alfar, then the elf race had a civil war and split into groups, the Svartalfar and the Ljosalfar (and Hamstalfar). RifE is adding onto the lore that Kael created, rather than changing it around

Svartalfar is the correct spelling, anyway. It's the Old Norse form of the word (which one presumes is the language that was in use at the time when the myths were still in the public consciousness).

Would this necessarily be true? IIRC the norsemen wrote in a different alphabet, and svartalfar is merely a romanisation, which is bound to be approximate anyway. I mean, Bombay didn't actually change it's name, it was just decided that Mumbai was a better romanisation of the whichever-Indian-language-it-was spelling/pronunciation.

So, whatever, really.

HEY! um ... when are the Bezeeri going to be added?

I'm thinking of making a new lizard Nation ... but I suppose I'd like to see what all the Bezeeri do before I finish my design doc so that they aren't too similar.

My lizard race will be more "mutational" or monster like ... so for instance a Gator (horseman) might upgrade into a Crocodile (horse archer) which might evolve into a Hydra?

yea, I'm wondering whether Hydra should be a Knight or Frigate replacement ;) ... but will probably be stronger in Ocean.

Knight replacement might be a T-rex type Theropod. (or something to that effect, a highly advanced Archosaur with certain Avian elements, hence a Bi-pedal nature (at least sometimes), fast land speeds, and a Saurian, "dinosaur" like quality)

so its less of a "Religion X" or "Mechanic X" nation, it won't have any underwater cities (most likely) ... but it will have most of its units (aka even navy and possibly artillery) being living and "amphibious"

Sort of like a "Reptiles of the World united" or some such ... I will try to avoid adding dragons ;)

more likely a Frog arcane system, Snake priests (Naga), Crocodile mounted line, Skink recon, and Iguana Melee.

As well as Sea-Serpent Navy.

Now, Seige may still be normal ... but depending on what levels of "Monsters" I decide to add to the mix, they might be giant reptilian worms or something random like that. Seige most likely will not be amphibious, even if it is living. I feel free to go ahead and make it amphibious if it feels right though.

Heck, maybe the naval line will have two branches ... with one branch being able to go on land and acting as the "Seige" in land instances.

Will probably be more Jungle and River oriented than Ocean oriented ... but much of its army will be able to enter the waters. (aka Gators can enter Coast, While Crocodiles can enter ocean)

if crocodiles upgrade into Hydra's then they will keep their Ocean ability ... but if they upgrade into "T-rex things" then they will lose their Ocean and Coast ability.

But there are only 4 Knights so losing their ability isn't a huge issue.

Its unlikely that the melee and recon will be waterwalking ... just amphibious. Arcane and Divine will probably be able to enter coast though.

Naga-Paladins will probably be able to enter Ocean ;)

So... I found an Eden design thread in the ciV creation & customization forum... then realized that it's only a plan for a SMAC mod... :p

so ... that Eden is a new SMAC?

Or that it wasn't Valkk's Eden ;)

Well Valk. Care to tell us if the Aquatic Bezeeri are still planned for Rife??

// also, are they currently alive in any mod mod? Or are they still only design documents.

2.0. As with any other new civ I intend to make (aside from the Hamstalfar, who were simple and added mostly because I wanted to showcase the fact that traderoutes can now provide commerces as well as yields, and that can be manipulated via buildings and techs).

And they are not alive in any other mod. I would be... Quite displeased, if they were. :mischief:

How many versions are we away from 2.0? Is it too far away for any semblance of time-frame?

Hey, you should make a new thread for this! Even if nothing's finalized, that would ensure it doesn't get buried in here and we can discuss and comment on your plans. :)

@Eugene ... yes very true ... however I currently have maybe 5% coding skills, basically 0 :( .. so I wouldn't want to get people's hopes up. I'm more of an Idea's man but I'm going to see what I can do up until Sunday. (thats when Fall break ends)

If I have something mesurable by then, I'll post it ;)

Hmm. Is there a reason why the Bezeeri aren't planned to be added until after 4 other updates?

Is it because you need X, Y, and Z mechanics working before you add them? And 4-7 will add X, Y, and Z?

Because in the process of making those intervening patches, we will be reworking techs, buildings, units, etc. I do not want to implement it one way, only to change it again later.

Plus, I prefer to implement general mechanics and improve what is already there, rather than add entirely new things that don't affect what already exists. ;)

You like to talk in riddles don't you? :P

Hehe ... to clarify what I meant ... I understood your first sentence.

Its the second one, where the first part is a paradox (I like Big changes and Small changes) .... so then it turns the second half of the second sentence into a nonsensical mesh, at least to me :p

Ah. I was saying I'd rather improve gameplay, rather than add entirely new gameplay.

As in... Why add a new civ, when several existing civs need work? Why limit additions to just one civ, when instead you can add mechanics that improve the entire game (like spawngroups, once 1.31 is out)?

Have to have priorities. Mine are on existing content, not new content, at least for the most part.
