Played home. I was pleasantly surprised with my results.
First the overview:
Total pop: 166 (15-13-10-16-15-11-12-10-6-8-7-4-14-7-7-11)
16 cities
Old wonders: Stonehenge, pyramids, oracle, AP, UoS, SM built;
New wonders: Taj, NE in Gordium, HE in Ecbatana (yay barbs!)
Army: 4 warriors (I lost one), 13 axes, 13 rifles, 7 cannons, 12 workers, 9 immortals, 11 cavalry, 2 caravels, 4 galleons, 2 frigates
905 bpt at 80% but culture is at 20% (losing 127 gpt out of 675 left)
techs: banking -- aesthetics (trade) -- drama (trade) -- economics -- replaceable parts -- gunpowder -- music (trade) -- literature (trade) -- rifling -- military tradition -- chemistry -- steel -- steam power -- constitution -- corporation -- archery (trade; I don't see myself trading much more in this game) -- assembly line (1)
civics: representation, nationhood, caste system (should change this in the next revolt), free market, theocracy
plans: Conquer
Domination is definitely possible, space should be quite simple from this point.
report: I started the set by completing the Taj. I then swapped into representation/caste/pacifism to hurry a GS. I still didn't have an academy
I got a GP from my capital first which I fired off for another 8 turns of GA. I got the GS during the first GA and built an academy in Persepolis. I also got the free GM from economics which I sent to Aksum for a tidy 2k. I used this money to upgrade immortals with XP into cavalry and built some galleons while in my GA. I waited until I got steel + cannons as I knew Gilgamesh had castles and he was teching astronomy (i.e., not rifles). I had time so I prepared very well before I sent off 3 galleons full of cannons, rifles (drafted), and cavalry (upgraded). I've managed to take 5 of Gilgamesh's cities, and another 2 should be mine in 3-4 turns. That will leave him with 1 city that may or may not be worth taking, depending on how bad WW is by that point. I've been using the plunder money to fund the culture slider (I built theaters in all my cities before I started the war as I knew I'd be relying on culture). The war is going very smoothly - I think I've lost a total of maybe 4-5 units. Advanced units really whip the AI into oblivion...
I think Zara has teched up to physics, which is a pain. However, Saladin does not yet have rifles. HRE appears to have rifles and cavalry. It's going to be a modern war slugfest with domination
