From Brimstone and Ashes pt. 2
Following victory in Britain, there was a sense of tension. Britain evolved into a loose confederation of its former colonies of Holland, the Falklands, Australia, and Indonesia. It was obvious that they would try to take the home islands again. It was decided that in order to prevent this, KNE had to act. Thus, a KNE air blitz occurred over the Lowlands. Bombers blew the Dutch to kingdom come, while Aircraft Carrier's wings prevented Britain from doing anything. In 1 month, all of the Lowlands was either in KNE hands or about to become so. The world watched in either awe or horror as New England showed that a new age dawned for them.

While no longer the superpower of old, its continued existence was guaranteed. But they were still foreigners in a foreign land, and New England needed to realized that they were now basically a European nation in all but name. The capitulation of Holland, however, marked the end of the
Age of Brimstone and Ashes, the period between the initial landings at Wales to the previously mentioned event. It was marked with constant warfare (Brimstone) and an uncertainty that the entire nation could collapse with one small move (Ashes).
It is generally agreed by scholars that George D. Sherman was the reason this nation stayed together. His military prowess, combined with his aggressiveness, kept the nation alive in its twilight. He is still currently the leader of the nation, being just as good as he was then.
Modern Times
The greatest issue of today for New England is Portugal. The Portuguese dictator found offence that the KNE refused to recognize the state, and demanded that they do so. The Marians then took this as a "KNE plot to take over Portugal", but said that they would stay out of it. When KNE stated that previous laws made by New England state that Portugal is part of the country, they then rambled on how poor and no one speaks English there (Being ignorant on New English policies toward Portugal. Read chapter "The Stand-Off" for more details on why the comment is false). The Marians then considered it a threat against stability, and promised to intervene for Portugal, failing to realize that it was Portugal who was picking for a fight.
Portugal, land of Aborrehents and idiot dictators
Also an issue is the French coastline. Sherman has ordered troops to land there in order to bring stability to the region. However, the mandate also laid claims onto the lands the peacekeepers on, calling England's historical titles to the land. No nation has laid similar claims anywhere in France.
