Hey, I'm interested in joining. Should I take an NPC or create my own country at this point?

I would suggest creating a new Country, as most of the NPC's that i have seen are more subservient to another nation or tiny, even a new country can do well in this world, I would suggest somewhere in south america or Africa.

Germany will continue to suspend trade with the PAU. In addition, we urge all nations dedicated to the principles of the UN to embargo the PAU as well.

Military Structure of Malta

Branches:
Hospitaller Navy
Knights Hospitaller
Maltese Air Force
Maltese Army

Hospitaller Navy
A moderately sized fleet. The Hospitaller Navy is comprised of a mishmash of both new and old ships. With the recapture of the shipyards at Buenos Aires, the fleet has begun a moderate retooling.

Knights Hospitaller
The small professional army that forms the core of the Maltese land forces. The Knights Hospitaller maintain a standing strength of 45,000 at all times. The Knights have high standards for entry, and have a difficult training regimen designed to keep them an elite group. Their training is very broad, ranging from amphibious landings, to paratrooper training, to both desert and arctic survival. Their equipment is Maltese-designed and produced on the Malvinas by the small armaments industry there.

Maltese Air Force
Thoroughly average on the whole. With no real aerospace industry to speak of, Malta relies almost entirely on imported planes. By their nature, these planes tend to be somewhat out of date. Nevertheless, the Air Force is reasonably funded and trained.

Maltese Army
Represents the bulk of Malta's land forces in times of war. In peacetime, only two corps are maintained. These two permanent corps are primarily staffed with non-combatant personnel, as in peace they supplement the Knights Hospitaller. During times of war, the Maltese Army relies primarily on conscription to boost its numbers. In stark contrast to the Knights, the quality of the Maltese Army's training is below average in general, and their equipment is largely pre-Cataclysm weaponry either from Italy or locally sourced.

Communique from the Governments of New Rhodesia, Mozambique and Botswana
The Republics of New Rhodesia, Mozambique and Botswana have formalized their status as equal members of a federation (with Rhodesia being a first among equals) and have taken the old ruins of the African Union and reformed it into:
THE AFRICAN FEDERATION

All trade agreements with New Rhodesia should either be cancelled or renewed to encompass other member nations.

...wrong. disputes can be resolved in other ways. and, just because the PAU left doesn't mean they are suddenly the worst aggressor ever.

all Russians ships must get out of the fossa naval base within this season.

Upon some thinking on this and how it might affect Greek peacekeeping, Russia finds it's in it's best interest to stay in Fossa. It is an important base of operations for Greek peacekeeping, and let's be honest, it's probably better off being managed by the country that's actually economically stable. We demand Rome to continue to allow Russian ships stay in Fossa, and to be frank you'll probably have to force them out if you want them out that badly. Using the... "exemplary" Roman army, of course.

Arrogant Russians. we are economically stable, and it is OUR base. only we know how to truly manage it, we are just renting some parts of it out to you.

if Russia can let go of its arrogance, and the insults, and ask real nicely, we will allow you to use the Fossa Naval base again. otherwise, no. we will offer it to someone else. Austria, maybe?

The UN used to be a forum for global discussion and settling disputes. Now it is merely interested in controlling the sovereignty of nations and exists as a puppet to a handful of interest groups. The days of peaceful discussion in the UN are long since over.

Mayor Francis waited for his time to speak patiently, smiling even. There was no time to fly all the way back to Texarkana to get ready for the show, so he had cameras brought right to the front lines in Mexico. Judging by how nervous the camera crew was about the low rumbling on the horizon from Texark artillery leveling a Mexican stronghold, Francis knew he made the right call.

Five....four....three...

Oh the joy of being Mayor.

Two....one.

"People of Texarkana, the Pan-American Union, and the World. Much ado has been made of the PAU's departure from the United Nations, and I can't help but wonder why.

The world has changed. Actually, no. The world died. Ask your grandparents, because they were there. Born from the fire and blood, Texarkana rose to bring civilization to wilderness of death and cannibalism. Texarkana's history isn't the history of weak men and women bending the knee to the world. No, my friends, Texarkana's history is wrought with blood and destruction. Our enemies have been many, but time after time our enemies have been wiped away by the triumph of the will of our great nation. The Mississippi Pact, the Pirates, the Platonic Republic, and now the Mexican bandits have all fallen before the superiority of our spirit.

How does the saying go?

'The Strong Prevail, the Weak Perish'?

The Pan-American Union marches forward in all directions, resolute in our belief that the Higher Power has blessed our proud nation. With His Will, the PAU will be the shield that protects freedom of trade, freedom from fear, and freedom from need.

So, my proud countrymen, do not worry your head over the tiny barking of the dogs, for if the dogs bite, the legions will put them down.

The PAU will stand resolute in our desire for free trade, and if the United Nations, if the Germans, if anybody else wants to embargo us, then fine. The PAU is at peace, always. However, the minute the United Nations, the Germans, anybody else makes the mistake up taking up arms and threatens the security of the Pan-American Union, well..."

Mayor Francis snapped his fingers, and the low rumble of artillery became a frenzied drumming. The camera cut to a formation of planes flying overhead, surely to purge the enemies of the Church and State from Mexico.

"We will see how they like the feeling of our jackboots pressed against their throats."

...wrong. disputes can be resolved in other ways. and, just because the PAU left doesn't mean they are suddenly the worst aggressor ever.

Truly. Our Union seeks nothing less than what the Founding Fathers wanted, and that includes freedom of trade. Does anybody really believe that the PAU leaving the UN signals some kind of intent to invade Europe or some nonsense like that? Our nations ran by adults incapable of coming to peace without the United Nations? If I recall correctly, the UN only existed for eight decades in its original form. Somebody should inform our historians that the United States and British Empire were at war from 1776 to 1945.

We are a peaceful people. Our arms have only been risen in the name of self-preservation in the face of cruel neighbors. Even though the Germans have aggressively closed their ports to the PAU, we have nothing but forgiveness and love in our hearts for Germany and the German people.

A bit of lore on Oceania, responding to the question of the very origins of our proud nation:

Part 1:
Spoiler :

The beginnings of this story go past until before the cataclysm, where an event happened that altered the course of this nation.
The doom was near, and all the major occidental governments made several plans to protect everything possible.
One of those plans regarded the safekeeping of all the major works of art of humanity for future generations. Several worldwide organizations worked jointly in this massive super secret project, such as the NATO, the Commonwealth and some other nations of the G-20.
All these works of art would be stored in a secret place that nearly no one would knew it existed.
And the choice was Nauru. The tiny island nation, with an incredible history that nearly everyone in this thread knows about I think, was chosen because of a decent infrastructure network, remoteness, and a crippled environment within the island, perfect to invest massively on huge storehouses and give employment to a population with no work, as the guano exploits were depleted.

Part 2:

The operation was a success. Giant buildings arose in the island, and thousands of paintings, sculptures, original manuscripts and a long etc. were, in a massive operation, seized one night and in one the most complex logistical challenges by humanity, transported to the island.
Of course, the general population didn't receive this news well but the path to war was already set and everybody knew it. The location remained secret and many stories put it in a cave in Montana, in the very unreachable depths of Siberia, Greenland or Yukon, or even in the midst of the Saharan desert or in the Showa scientific station in the Antarctica.
Then, during and after the great cataclysmic wars, although many topics were more important, rumors placed the new el dorado of the arts in a pacific island: Kirakira, in the Salomon Islands, or Nauru. Us Nauruan inhabitants were obliged to remain completely silent in exchange of considerable subsidies by the Australian government, and a secret department that supervised the island very closely.
But then, as the ashes of war perched on the ground and a new horizon of peace and ruin began to loom in the watery horizon of us Nauruans, we seized opportunity swiftly, declared total independence of any external power and began commercializing these works of art to private companies and collections, rich men and countries in a most underground fashion, binding ourselves in a web of mist. Of course, we sold each piece to an incredible price that led to the world's maybe most massive infrastructure project ever seen:

With all the new cash the island transformed itself in massive harbor fortress. A dike would be constructed all around the island, the reef would be lowered so that great ships could pass, hundreds of anti-air and anti-sea modern artillery, along with fleets of helicopters were disposed in bases around the dike. Harbors were created, carving in the earth and filling the water, a great aircraft base was constructed, although it until now is never been capable of being fully operational as planned, due to prioritization of the fleet in the army's budget (80% normally), and the island began to specialize in commerce around the world and ship making industry. Just after the great war Nauru profited from the crippling nations that would later finish to disappear by buying thousands of tones of source and construction materials at a risible price, but keep buying in order not to deplete the reserves in a long time. This project took nearly half a century to complete, at a full speed work, but now everyone knows that the island is totally impregnable.
Nauru specialized in all ships that are in shape and form of catamarans, double deckers. Many engineers specialize their knowledge on this type of ship making. The workforce was brought from all the corners of the world: Intellectuals, dissidents, immigrants… Thousands and more came here to survive the slaughter. In exchange for living in Nauru they would work 6 hours a day for food, a quasi unpaid force, would learn nauruan language, and agree that their children would be nauruan only and would renounce the nationality of their fathers.
Nauru, as the most important faction in the region, always in the last 50 years took the lead in the political field of Oceania and just now nearly every island here has been finally fully integrated to the Kingdom. Stretching from Hawaii to the borders of Papua New Guinea and the Easter Island, now officially RapaNui, the nation is firmly reigned by the benevolent king Kanaloaikaiwilena Kapulehu II, although he only has nominal and representative authority, as declared in the new Constitution of 2089. Each island has a high level of auto governance, and many citizens look to the realization of a pseudo realization of the Utopia island of Thomas Moore, although it is known that the book was written as a subtle satire and the author knew that a society like that is not feasible.
Now, Nauruan fleet is among the highest of the world, because apart from all the high class ships that it has at its command (17 points military last update, 13 is for fleet only), a significant portion of the population owns ships as someone would own a car, and patriotic citizens are more than willing to help with their ships against an enemy. And our nations has over 10 million inhabitants, so that is quite a lot of ships. On the contrary, ground army is not extended and researched at all, consisting military doctrines on amphibious assault and defense. The air army is indeed better than the ground one.
The pacific state will not sleep now onwards, being this time the key years of the beginning of a new era. Our country pleads for the survival, rights, and power for the indigenous parts of the world that still survive.

the Roman Empire has asked the Russians to leave the Fossa naval base, and not return.

...we needed that base, anyway, to expand our naval capabilities. no telling how Russia will respond, since we were very careful and generous about it.

Australian expansion, sorry no Expansion RP or what is going on in Australia RP.

the Russians evidently wanted to continue renting out some of the Fossa naval base so badly, they wouldn't even leave. so we just let them stay.

we dont want a war against Russia.

In accordance with protocol regarding aides and abettors to an enemy state during a period of war, in response to the Pan-American Union's violation of United Nations Resolution 11 (2105) prohibiting trade with the Empire of Japan, as well as in protest of American contempt for the dignity of prisoners of war, the United Arab Republic hereby instates an embargo against the Pan-American Union on all commercial and military cargo, excepting critical medical supplies and humanitarian aid.

Similarly, we are embargoing Indonesia for its likewise defiance of Resolution 11 until such time that it severs trade relations with Japan.

the Roman Empire expected that to happen, and will send radiation clean up crews, a lot of relief supplies, and the Emperor himself will help out the Egyptians during this crisis.
...
Japanese aggression as come too far. that said, the Roman Empire will begin shipping military goods to Alexandria, for use against japan. we, for obvious reasons, cannot declare war. we would be useless.
(You know, you could also just ship it to Syria. We do technically have a land border.)

Jerusalem welcomes any and all support in relieving this humanitarian catastrophe. The Emperor has experience in decontamination, does he?

In related news, a critical health advisory has been issued for all communities within the Nile delta to avoid exposure to or use of river water due to risk of radioactive contamination. Quarantine zones are being established and relief convoys will import potable water until the Ministry of Health has better assessed the situation.

The UN and it's embargo is collapsing. The world has realized that the UN is nothing more than a pretext used by UAR to enforce it's will. Soon, the UN forces will also be crushed on the battlefield and the UN will be dissolved.

Nearly two years have passed since the creation of the United Nations Vietnam Intervention Force. When the United Arab Republic undertook the peacekeeping mission to Vietnam in 2104, we could never have imagined that our resolve to defend human welfare would be tested so relentlessly. United Arab soldiers first debarked in Ho Chi Minh City in the winter of 2104, thinking they were there to put an end to local infighting, that they were responsible for no more or less than the Vietnamese people. Never could they have anticipated that in the course of their mission, those courageous men and women would earn the distinction as the protectors not merely of Vietnam, but of the international community entire.

The battle lines were drawn the season previous, when the Empire of Japan, driven by greed, by opportunism, by a deplorable contempt for the well-being of foreign peoples, began its bloody conquest of China. Under the masquerade of "peacekeeping", the government in Tokyo enslaved the Chinese, plundering the land to enrich its home, repeating a pattern of imperial subjugation startling in its parallel to the exact same process witnessed in the former half of the Twentieth Century. When Vietnam erupted in crisis and Tokyo announced it planned to intervene, the United Arab Republic knew precisely what such an intervention entailed. Together, with the international community, we stepped forth to oppose it.

Japan knew it was on the side of immorality from the beginning. Its wholesale rejection of diplomatic means to dispute resolution, typified by its unilateral withdrawal from the United Nations in the Spring of 2105, could not have been less surprising. It knew it would never be able to justify its self-serving imperialism. It was only a matter of time before Tokyo retreated into violence, hoping to frighten the international community with brute force. Nowhere, in its narrow-minded ideology, did it think the world would stand strong. But stand strong we did. When the nation of Vietnam faced its greatest peril, peoples of all continents, united in common cause, rallied to its defence. Those that fought the Japanese on foreign soil, that laid down their lives to defend the citizens of a country half a world away: they are the heroes of our age, the most honourable and deserving martyrs. In the face of inhuman savagery, in the face of the most abhorrent atrocities in recent memory, their indomitable courage turned back the imperialists and restored peace to Vietnam.

The United Arab Republic pledged itself to the UN mission. But now we are part of a greater mission. As international resolve grows stronger, Japanese tactics become ever more desperate. Against cooperation, it chose conflict. In the face of peace, it waged war. With its rationale's foundation of lies and deceit exposed, Tokyo abandoned any pretext of moral conscience and now wages war against humanity itself. The nuclear attack on Cairo is only the most recent demonstration of Japan's cowardice and dishonour, its willingness to put the world to the sword for no other reason than the selfish pursuit of power. The war criminals seek to intimidate us, but in the face of such terrorism our conviction is only fortified. The current government in Tokyo has exhibited nothing but contempt for the international community, and now, its own common humanity. It has made war on friend and foe alike. It jeopardizes the very survival of our species. It cannot be reasoned with, and will not stand down.

The brave man defends his people. The braver man defends those people that are not his own. The United Arab Republic went to Vietnam on behalf of the world. And on behalf of the world, we pledge to dispel the evil that has sunk its claws into Japan. For as long as the Imperial war machine runs, for as long as Japan remains free to wreak atrocity after atrocity upon innocent civilians, for as long as Tokyo is governed by bloodthirsty fanatics, neither we, nor Vietnam, nor even those states that shut their eyes and ears to the cries of injustice ringing from the Pacific Ocean to the Nile, that claim this is not their struggle, that foolishly think they can remain even-handed in the battle between the oppressed and the oppressor, none shall be safe from total war and the impending threat of complete annihilation. We, who stood fast in the face of adversity, who turned back the tide in Vietnam, who accepted the ultimate cost in defending humanity with dignity and iron resolve: we shall not rest until that threat is broken once and for all.

We undertake this mission, as we undertook the mission to Vietnam, not for glory, not for wealth, but in defence of the fundamental values of freedom and security, not merely for our own citizens, but for the world entire. Through courage, through justice, we shall prevail.

Yeah, right. Japan are the evil demons while the Arabs are the good knights/heroes saving the world. Good for movie, but not good when it comes from the mouth of a head of state. Please, we are not three years old. Everyone can understand that you are using the UN peacekeeping mission as an excuse to impose colonial rule in Vietnam.
