Because any right worth having is worth defending in the marketplace of ideas. After all, if you don't defend it, it won't last. Why even debate it?
An honest question from a gun control skeptic: Are all guns equal in battle?
WHy or why not?
* Asault rifle is a BS term used to denote scary looking long guns. They are n ot machine guns that fire full auto.
A bullet kills regardless of what it comes out of. The "asault rifle"* is actualy less deadly then a hunting rifle with its larger caliber. I carry a .45 caliber hand gun my effective killing range is shorter but it will do more damage at 30 feet.
As everyone knows people in Canada have approximately as much access to guns as Americans, but they do not go nuts as often and kill people.
Yarr cue sideline cheap shot argument from http://catb.org/~esr/guns/reductio.html
With proper licence yes you can. You can with the right papers own a .50 caliber full auto machine gun like the ones mounted ontop of military vehicals.I remember this coming up before. My appologies!no need
More honest questions:
But on a related note, are citizens in the US allowed to own fully automatic-firing weapons? If not, what is the rationale between banning them and not other 'scary looking' guns?
The only good defence is a bullet proof vest. But at 100 feet a high power rifle with straight sites will blow your head off. But lets say he misses and you know where the shooter is. With a hand gun you can lay down cover fire, you may even get a hit in. With a rifle you could shot back with more presicine. Most shotings are done with hand guns. So with a shooter walking down a hall I have as much of a change as he does. The point is I have a chance. Unarmed I have no chance at all.ok to change it around a bit, is a handgun much use against a hunting rifle or shot gun at a distance of over 30 feet? Is the only good defense against a rifle another one?
