Instead of us going there, let us bring him/her here!

I see people posting and posting about where they would go and what they would do if they could travel back in time to any given day of human history with their one ticket to a time machine.

However, I think there is another use that such a ticket could have that would be even greater. Instead of us using it to go somewhere, we could use it to bring to our time one of the great names of humanity and see what he could do to make our time better.

So, if you guys had a one way ticket to a time machine, who would be the great person that you would bring to the year 2002?

Personally, I think that I would bring the Leonardo DaVince… if he invented parachutes and helicopters back then, just imagine what could he do now.

Regards :) .

Fred, you stole my top vote -- I've always thought that Leonardo would be one of the few people from the past who wouldn't be completely disoriented with the world of 2002. Let's face it, to the average person of the 16th century, much of today's technology is sufficiently advanced as to be indistinguishable from magic. But give Leonardo a few lessons and some time, and he'd probably have some insightful observations to make about modern technology. Who knows, maybe even some new inventions. But Leonardo was an idea man, not much for implementing or marketing his own inventions. Now, if we got Thomas Edison to run the labs and Henry Ford as CEO of the corporation... and JP Morgan to raise the venture capital... now we'd be seeing some sparks fly. Oh, and make Benjamin Franklin the president of the company. He could understand the technology and talk about it in an interesting and entertaining manner.

But let's step back a bit from technology. What about philosophy and ethics? Let's get Socrates, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Aquinas, Confucius, the Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammed together in one room and just turn on the tape recorder.

Music is another area where we could have some fun. What would Mozart or Beethoven have done with modern instruments? Or how about art -- what would Picasso and Michelangelo have to say to each other?

Is it just me, or is this starting to sound like "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"?

And why not just bringing scientifical mind's of the future to the present? There you have youre research already completed and for an unlimited amount of time advance'd.(considering you could get back technoligy from lets say 50.000 ad)
Or philosopher's and muzician's from the future ,whatever ya want.Could get interresting to.

I'm sure Tjaikovsky would be a heavy metal rocker if he had been born in 1960. The guy used cannon and bombast in his music then, imagine if he had developed his style in the era of the electric guitar... the pyrotechnic stage shows would be a big hit, too.

How about putting Mohammad in a series of discussions with Gloria Steinem?

Well, my original proposition is that we have only ONE ticket to that time machine, so we would have to think hard to make good use of it. If I had many, certainly there are a number of people that I’d like to bring.

For example, I’d bring Adam and Eve so they can go to Geraldo and discuss publicly who is guilty for the original sin (and if Geraldo is not “on” anymore, ‘id simply bring him too) :) .

And I’d like the idea of giving Julio Verne a tour in a submarine factory.

Although I DID mention the technological aspect of DaVince, I’d pick him because he was altogether a philosopher, scientist, artist and visionary. However, if people have other aspect they give greater importance, the choice would change.

Although I’m atheistic, surely Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha were close calls in my pick. I recognize the importance of religion in the world, and I’d like to see what they would have to say to the stupid fanatics of today.

After Mohammed had his chat with Jesus, just imagine him having a few words with Bin Laden and Omar :) .

So, certainly, there are lots of cool options… but let’s imagine that you only have ONE chance, and have to make sure that you will pick well.

Who would be?

Regards :) .

I'd like to bring one of the founders of the USA to the present day, and see for myself whether they would be happy with the current state of their union. This isn't a knock on America, honest, I'm just curious how impressed or regretful they would be if they saw how their ideas grew forth.

Excuse me for picking someone too intellectual, but Einstien as a young man, but all his knoledge. With more funding, better technology, a known reputation, and some good Math and Science degrees, he could change the world.

Or just pull a brillinat joe scientist and get him to tell us of the inventions of the future.

I'd like to bring Gutenberg - not so he could tell me anything, but so I could show him all the amazing s*** he helped to create.
