Introducing and Developing the Interesting Times Concept.

1. Make them simpiler.
2. I say 15 is a good limit.
4. I like it.
5. I agree with that, it is not realistic for a player to tell the people to invent something they didn't even know existed.
6. Agree also.

5) To elaborate, I mean that the RESEARCH of new technologies is out of player control, instead, the engineering (creation of better tanks, planes, nukes, AFTER the needed technolgies are developped) is still in player control.

6) Yes, that was what I intended. Ofcourse, expansion might happen WITHOUT orders.

1. Steal north king's but with an income as well
2. 15 is nice
3. Good idea
4. Very good idea
5. np
6. agree

I might join, it's a really interesting idea.

5) Technology, IMHO it should be less under player control, as no ruler ever suddenly came up to his priests and said "INVENT IRON!". IMHO it should be under more of mod-control, based on the conditions of your people (if they need new material for weapons, they are more likely to invent iron). Ideas?

6) Expansion, ditto. Should be slower and less under player control, or rather, the settlement of new territories should, and without it, maintaining control is hard.

I think these points should be linked, Expansion often centred around areas that were srategic, i.e. trade links etc. This brought with it a lot of people inhabitating a small area. This of course led to a certain innovation as certain skills were cultivated, base needs having been met. (land, wealth enough for food etc)

1) The rules. Its obvious that I should revise them greatly, or perhaps even make new rules from the scratch, or just steal NK's ones. Any other ideas?

Which ones of mine are you stealing? I can tell you the current ones are a big hassle.

2) The players. Now, I would hate to do it, but I might have to limit the amount of players, to ensure that only the trully dedicated ones participate. I don't want anyone who would join in and then send no orders this time. But should I actually limit the players? And if so, at which number?

I never did. But that's just me.

3) The empires in BT. As was brought up before, supposedly I will only wreck great empires in the IT. But there might be exceptions, and besides, not a lot of players would be glad to learn that their nation was self-isolated for some time, went through a bloody civil war, or generally has growing corruption and/or is stagnating. I will probably have to do those things, for the sake of realism, and to make a better set-up for the IT. So this could be considered a warning. And note that I guarantee that I will NOT do it just like that, but with realism in mind, and IF you could persuade me that what I did to your empire can't be happening I will alter it to a more acceptable form. But only IF.

As long as I'm not completely destroyed, then I don't mind in any case.

4) Civilized zones. Okay, basically, I am going to seriously limit the early civilization placement areas. As said before, if you could persuade me that your civilization could exist even though its outside of the civilized zone, it will be in. But only if. Generally, civilized zones will expand, based somewhat on player actions.

I suppose as long as India is civilized, then I'll live.

5) I forgot what else, but I'm sure there's something.

Try to remember it. ;)

I suppose as long as India is civilized, then I'll live.

Not all of it. Indus Valley naturally is, and its surroundings are.

Here is a topic, btw, on which I am worried - supposedly, rulers are often overthrown when they aren't careful and/or lucky, especially if they carry out policies unpopular amongst the ruling elite (or unpopular amongst the masses, if they continue them for long enough). Problem is, I am not sure how to represent that. Supposedly, I could just overthrow a ruler (the player remains in charge) and cancel the orders if that ruler is doing a lot of stupid stuff AND isn't killing off anybody who could try and move against him for that. Opinions?

I intend, btw, to divide the nations of the world into CULTURES, cultural groups. I.e., a Greek culture group, or a Chinese culture group, or a Western Catholic culture group, you get the idea, with their cultural stats (Religion, Preffered Government, Cultural Centers (for instance, for the Muslim culture it would be Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem, but also Baghdad and Cairo), Traits (isolationist, zealous, etc) and so forth) that will sometimes be changed as the times go (during BT). Some nations will not decisively belong to one culture, but rather, be influenced by different cultures. Nations from the same culture group could interact more easily; however, they will tend to be actually MORE hostile towards each other over the smaller differences (Catholics hated Hussites more then they did the Muslims; Ismailites hated Sunnis more then they did the Christians; etc). Their traits will influence their development, ofcourse. I will do all the Cultural stats myself, based on your stories and on common sense, taking into mind your complaints. What do you think?

IMHO the military model is fine as it is, only I will change the labels and maybe make the military growth less predetermined and more based on country population (i.e. China could muster more forces per eco. point then Armenia). I will ofcourse add lists of the sort of troops nations in specific cultural groups and tech ages will have. I am considering going towards the Stormbringer mode of economy, i.e. making it (sorry, Roddy) more "story-NES-like", or rather more individual. What I mean is, you can order to build more universities and temples and so on and invest a certain amount of money, and depending on it and on other things I will determine by how much will your education grow, if at all. Maybe.

Um, yes, those are my current unstructured ideas, but I would like to see your comments on them and suggestions for them.

Reserve me a spot.

Preferrably the Islamic Caliphate, if there is one.

im in this one, hopefully theres room.

Looking good, i have no insight that will help much so just keep up the good work :]

@ Capulet: What happened to "no more NESing"? I'm really confused now...

@ das: Like I said in the PM, reserve me something, preferably Roman, but I don't know how that big thing will change anything, especially with this sort of NES.

I've been trying to get mods to do that for years! Well, about the unpopular idea u could have like a coup, or a revolution as like in France and if the player doesn't like it... too bad really, they should know not to be unrealistic.

That would mean T-----e couldn't mess things up like -- has in the past! Or stalin!

I like the order cancellation idea. It just makes me happy.
