I think the starting date should be about 8000-7500 BC, which is about when the first settlements were formed and the first documented mining of ores as well as the end of the last glacial period. It is right before the spread of agriculture, so it seems about right.

Other than trading, how do I go about getting more water? Will claiming coastal tiles give me extra water? As a plains nation I find it hard to believe that I am this lacking in water. Desert, yes, but plains? I thought I just had a bad roll for my starting province which is why I expanded as fast as I did in hopes of getting better lands that could support me.

That said: anyone want to trade some EP for water (and food)?
