IOT Developmental Thread

Most hosts start people joining in the "middle" of a game off with average everythings.

I want to play IOT, but I'm always overwhelmed by the absurd complexity of the games. Can someone just host a game that is relatively simple, instead of all of these ridiculously complex monstrosities?

You're welcome to just give general orders and let me handle the rest.

An idea I came up with is the "head of state / head of government" idea. Basically, players wanting a less intense game can just specify foreign policy and maybe expansion(head of state), and I'll handle the rest(head of government). Of course if you're going to war, I'm not going to spend all your gold on renovating the proverbial White House's lawn. :p

Da.

As much as this is a great idea, won't it just turn into Tani super NPCs with slight direction from somewhere else?

Foreign policy is the greatest power of all in an IOT. For example, any large spy agency would be at the disposition of the player, not me.

As I recall that is what makes the game fun for you!

With so many secret stats, there's due to much bluffing, lying, backstabbing and fun! Well, for me at least. Hopefully for everyone else as well. If we're all going to go careening into the Sun I'd like for us all to have a jolly time doing it, eh?

Though really I think this is a good idea for any IOT. Constantly trying to figure out who betrayed who is always a fun aspect. If you don't mind losing a few years off your lifespan due to stress anyway but hey, it's not the amount of years you have, it's how you spend them yes? :p

Yeah but no one trusts me anymore and I'm not nearly as charismatic as Sone to make up for it.

One day someone will retire and mean it.

Do you really need to ask? This is IOT, for God's sake. The question is more why is everybody still here.

Also, I&B2 could have been awesome if we had behaved properly.

Really, Mathalamus is probably the only case of an IOTer who vanished entirely.

I was dragged out from my self-imposed exile, kicking and screaming :p.

I came crawling back because Enerjak damnit, I need my fix of needless simulated death and destruction.

I'm here for the sadism, personally. :)

But really, who -doesn't- get amused by the usual shenanigans that tend to ensue in IOTs? The game starts off sane for a few turns... then someone establishes themselves as an antagonist or starts a war for lulz, and the game goes downhill from there.

At the same time, the ratings go up, though, so it balances it out.

Combination of life got busy + shame at inability to run IB2 properly

MP drove me into insane regions of my brain I never knew existed so I can sympathise.

No shame needed. Running a full IB game is akin to a full-time job. I had to shut down IBR because I just couldn’t do the 8-10 hours of work needed per update in a timely fashion. (and that's just the time to do the update - not to keep up with the thread, social groups, player questions, etc.)

GMing a complex and highly participated game like the IB series is quite the undertaking and probably couldn’t be easily done by someone without a ton of free time on their hands.
