IOT Developmental Thread

Considering I was told in CityIOT I was given emergency powers and was the police commissioniar of the city, my actions were linked in desperate messures to enforce order. Plus it was fun playing the over zealous policer officer who went on "I am the law!"

Something I've been working on....

The Premise:

The year is 1899, and the sun is about to dawn on a new chapter in human history. Over the past 100 years, countless inventions and innovations have been created; progress has been made towards the betterment of mankind and many new ideas have infiltrated the minds of the masses. The years ahead will be difficult, as they are want to be, but they may well be prosperous as well. You must guide your nation through the whims of fate, the desires of man, and stand the test of time.

This IOT is dedicated to diplomacy and politics, with a simplified economy (I’ve learned my lesson from Shattered Europe). You will compete with your fellow powers for power, prestige, and the hearts and minds of your people.

Starting out:

Spoiler :
3YlCpnT.png

You get 15 claims to start out with. There really is no limit on where you can place them, but I’m not going to be exactly pleased if none of them border each other. Then give me some description of your nation; a short history, as well. This will help me decide where to expand your claims and by how much, and the better it is, the more you’re going to get; basically, no one is going to stay at 15 claims but rather use those 15 as a base where I will expand them further (though not outrageously so). The gaps will be filled in by relatively weak NPCs under my control.

Diplomacy:

You can do all the usual things (alliances, defensive pacts, etc) with NPCs/other players, as usual. However, all nations, depending on their size, military power, economic power, etc get a certain amount of Influence Points. IP can be spent on nations and the more you have invested in them, the more likely they are to help you out and listen to you.

You get a flat 2 IP per province you control, 1 IP from each army/navy, 1 IP from every 1 IC and every $10; a nation with 35 provinces, 15 armies, 5 navies, 10 IC and $100 would have 75 influence points.

An example of things you can get NPCs to do with your influence are, but not limited to:

-Gift Research

-Military aid

-Expel influence from other nations

Things like that.
Rebels:

Rebels are people who are unhappy with the current state of things, or some aspect of society, and are willing to fight about it; they come in a few flavors, namely:

Radicals - These guys are extreme leftists who want to see the proletariat rise and the bourgeois fall. They can either be anarcho-liberals, socialists, communists, Marxists, whatever.

Reactionaries - They want to see the liberals burn and the old order be reinstated. They will rise up if they feel the nation is changing too much, and try and revert those changes.

Patriots - People who want to rejoin the motherland. If you occupy a foreign nation’s soil, or annex it, there is a chance of these popping up.

Each rebel type has its own individual percent to rise up (you could theoretically get all 3 types at the same time), though they can be talked down and negotiated with.

Economy:

The lifeblood of nations! Money makes the world go around, and boy do you need it.

There are two economic factors in play: money and factories. Money is wonderful and can buy many things, but you need somewhere to produce those things; factories. 10 units of currency can create on factory. One factory can create one IC. IC can be sold, used to create armies, etc. Money = provinces*IC/2 (or m=p*c/2)

Military:

War is hell, but a necessary one. Armies and navies are the units you will be working with, where one army = 1 IC and $10, one navy = 2 IC and $20. Nations that you have high influence in will most likely send troops to help you out in your wars and a large army will reduce revolt risk, especially when stationed in the rowdy areas in question. 1 navy can transport 2 armies.
You can send in battle plans for small boosts, if you like.

Random events:

They’re back, and better! Every turn, every nation will get 3 random events - foreign policy, domestic issues, and military issues. They will tie into current world events, acts of nature, border incidents, anything you can imagine. The events can be either good, bad, or neutral; I will roll a die (1-60) to determine that, with 1-20 being bad, 21-40 being neutral, and 41-60 being good). You, the player, will determine how you react to them.

Research:

Research is broken down into a handful of trees:

Army Tech - Makes you fight better.

Naval Tech - Makes your navies fight better.

Experimental Tech - Basically, if you have an idea for a weapon, vehicle, or something that could be realistically invented in the early 20th century, send it in, I will give you a price for it and you will receive benefits depending on what it is. I am willing to be extremely lenient.

Diplomacy Tech - Gives you more influence.

Each tech (except experimental) costs 10*the tech level (so tech 1 costs $10, tech 2 costs $20, tech 3 costs $30, etc).

It is theoretically ready to launch whenever I feel like launching it

FNow that I think about it, "real-time" actions would be fun to try out again in IOT. Namely, just the aggressive actions like military and espionage actions so you couldn't build a gigantic army and instantly lolwtfstomp someone.

Gives people a chance to respond in kind before the actual update, and maybe helps the GM workload at update time. Maybe.

Early games of mine ran on real time updates. It didn't go over well.

After enough complaints I instituted a lock system for my games instead.

It should be a NES because I'm not going to play a game with that many Mexican names.

Wow.

Just wow. :p

Host in NES. Just because I would drool to see how some of the NESers handle this. Also because there are more IOTs willing to NES than NESers willing to IOT. (I am willing to IOT, I am just not easily interested by the ones I see and if I am, I usually get thrown off by something. :3)

Really, until there's some clear ruling on the difference between NES and IOT, I don't see why I can't do the same amount of work for post count. :p

Getting to see different players would also be nice as well. Keeps things fresh!

Plus theoretically the game really is never ending as well... and almost entirely player-to-player...

My NES is never ending.

I swore to keep it alive, until I can pass it on to my children, and from them to theirs. My NES shall reach the Iron Age, then Imperial, Then Dark, Then Bright, Then Gunpowder, Then Industrial, Then Oil, Then Silicon, Then Diamond, Then Unobtainium. It shall become a Space Colonization NES, then a Space Empires NES, then a Galactic Colonization NES, then a Galactic Empires NES and so on and so forth.

It seems like the people who get upset because of massive chaos, such as in CityIOT and the hilarious UN incident Sone and I pulled a few months ago, should just ignore it or murder it, because we're sure as hell not going to stop. We're living with their peacenik order boringness, so why can't they do the same?

IT BAFFLES THE MIND

This. Massive Chaos is never bad. Just back away, ignore it or murder the hell out of it if you don't like it. Besides sometimes you can't fight chaos with order, you have to fight chaos with MORE CHAOS!!

Won't believe it till I see it.

Technically every single game without victory conditions could be played forever. It never happens though.

So will empires be inherited by the children of their founders, or some other heir if they don't have any? Because that would be really funny/cool.

Or NPC'd I guess.

EDIT:

NESLIFE VI is an awesome new evolution game Iggy just start. It is made of awesomeness, coolness, and pwnage. It is covered in spikes of awesomeness. In an awesome image, NESers are praying to the god of Awesomeness In an awesome image, IOTers are praying to the god of Awesomeness.

Check it out!

Games need new life breathed into them. An enthusiastic new player, a new antagonist, etc. Joecoolyo, for example, did a great job keeping IOT IV alive through his role as an antagonist.

Then I ganged up on him with my super alliance and the game imploded. :p

One day the perfect game shall emerge.

===

Also on the "UN Incident." No, I won't react to it with "more chaos." Common sense says what that clause was for, and if anything of the sort happens again I'm not hesitating to request moderator assistance. :p

In the event of the UN being an inconvienence, invade the UN.

When it comes to MP4 I hope to do my best as Tani's NPC GM to help ensure the game is entertaining and not imploding. I even have consideration of 1 of the 5 major NPCs to be a massive antangonist for players and other toys of the GMs. I will also suggest that Tani adopts the ideas of events such as the Olympics from the past MPs plus boxing, chess and kart races for players to get involve in, making the rounds having plenty of activity. Consider this especilly for the chaos that will emerge from the NPC's responces.

The men strode through the ruined facade, stopping short at the old throne.
The group, upon seeing the ruin, began to fall into a squabble, arguing over whom the find belonged to.
One man strode forwards, and, while his companions fought, sat himself upon the old stone pedestal.
He wore no crown, but his intentions were clear.
The Imperium would rise again.

I hereby proclaim myself the pretender to Imperium Offtopcum XI (or whatever iteration we're on).

So, how's this going to go?*
Each provice will be worth 1 point.
Each army or navy will cost 1 point.
Trade will net you 10% of your trade partners' incomes.
RP will provide minor benefits.
We'll be using the IOTV map.
I'm allowing any and all nations or RP that don't violate the IOT constitution, with the exception that you may not use a nation as OOC political propaganda.

*all rules and details subject to change until posting. Posting to occur soon (tonight)?

That's too many rules for a number. Call it Bastille Day or something. Most themeless blank starts have anarchic names.

Land = Money

And in a way your average kindergartner could do it, not my usual attempt to make it seem more rational...

So I'm looking over MP1's ruleset and choosing what to modify for MP4, which is hoped to be primarily the same in terms of simplicity.

Some changes:

Powers - Cut to avoid balancing issues.

Combat / espionage - altered to make zerg rushing more difficult. Early warning system allows attacked players to redo their spending unless the system is disabled. War plans will increase chance of success.

War - Occupation is now a royal pain and extremely bad. Anything more than a few provinces will quickly become not worth it.

Clients - Apart from being managed by Ailedhoo, their mechanics have been adjusted somewhat. ;)

Air wings - To be divided into fighters and bombers. Simplifies the "mission system."

Navies - Divided into carriers, assault ships, and cruisers. Ditto.

Roleplay bonuses - suspended.

That leaves one small detail. I pose a poll to any who are interested:

Nukes - Yay or nay? I would remove the MAD provisions of MP3 so they could be freely used in the spirit of the first game's nuclear holocausts. Bioweapons and chemical weapons are to be used in roleplay primarily.
