IOT Developmental Thread

I want post count but am leaning towards not merging.

I see the fate of DYOSes and IOTs run somehow parallel. I wonder if there are any connections... *stares at Thorvald, TK and CivGeneral*

I don't know how you can make that connect—oh right Coruscant.

Don't look at me, I made every effort to keep the two separate (Hell, I even stated specifically in the first game I played it as as independent from the DYOS incarnation)! ಠ_ಠ

If we have to have post count then I'd rather have a merge than not have one.

I support post count.

If one wants to spam there is a spam section to Tani's IOT forum. That or in BTL there is a place for unserious posting if you fancy joining...

I've been planning to shift my operations to NES in the near future anyway. Goes to show how unnecessary the segregation is when I can host the same game in both. Also I'm calling nonsense on IOTs being "mechanic based." I've seen NES order lists, and they make my jaw drop with their length. To say IOTs are defined by being mechanical and not story is wishful thinking.

But anywho, relevant to the thread:

As for mechanics: the first truly mechanical game was IOT V. It was too much at once though so roleplay quickly evaporated in favor of monotonous orders.

Then we gradually began to phase into slowly more complex games, reaching peaks with Sons of Mars, Iron and Blood, etc. Now it seems to be shifting again, with more trying back to basics approach while Tyo and Sonereal toy with economic systems.

Ailedhoo is right in that MP3, after a brief decline, is starting to heat back up again. With WMD prohibiting open warfare and the economic system now making clients ever more lucrative it could last a while.

Is that in this forum?

Exactly.

Ah but that is in Mafia, which also does not have post count.

Q.E.D my point it proven. But it doesn't matter anyway so I will drop it now.

Your point is not proven... unless you wanted to prove for the reason WHY we need post count.

The "awesome" spam is something to discourage. Spam is something to discourage.

How much interest is there in either (A) a RISK, or (B), a CityIOT?

If the answer is "not much," or you expect to drop, I'm certainly not going to run one, since my last three attempts at CFC games resulted in lots of interest with no players.

My cityIOT flopped horribly, probably due to how long it took to get off the ground. Good luck on any you may start.

You also started it in a place where they probably were a little less likely to self-destruct.

Which, to be absolutely clear this time around, is totally allowed.

B) As long as 1) we don't have real time updates and 2) we start in a place where the city is less likely to implode.

You mean literally anywhere else other than Serbia.

I have finished all of Terios' hidden mechanics. With the map complete, the game will be ready for launch as soon as MP3 finishes up.

In Aux Armes!, technology is broken up into sub-groups:
-Military hardware
-Land doctrine and logistics
-Naval
-Political
-Economic

The odds of a breakthrough in any given field is determined by this equation:

C=(tI÷P)/I÷10

where C is the chance of a breakthrough, I is your investment in the field, tI is the total investment by all great powers, and P is the total number of great powers.

Only great powers can invest in technology and experience breakthroughs. Once a power achieves a breakthrough, they are awarded a new technology. The technology and its effects are a surprise, but it will obviously relate to the field in which it was researched. If more than one powers achieve breakthroughs on the same turn, they will research different technologies.

Once a technology has been discovered by a great power, it be normally purchased by any country according to its price. Some technologies are secret when discovered, and can only be researched by others after a set amount of time. A great power can also spend a certain amount to prevent others from buying the technology, but it will still be public.

As an example, let's look at the technology Commercial Radio.

Commercial Radio, being such an effective propaganda tool, falls under the political category. Once a country discovers it, there is a 5% chance per factory in any province that it owns without public support that the it gains public support in the province. It costs 7 IC for anyone to purchase, unless the country that discovered it intervenes.

I think I'll just change factory cost to a flat rate, and keep the cap per province at nine.

So the old question for my next title. Should all players be able to start equal, or should strength be first come/first serve or random?

I was initially going to assign players varying grades of power to make things interesting, though all would still remain stronger than the NPC powers, who'd all be minors. But it really could work either way.

Since my goal is to more or less have a fresh slate, I suppose equal starts would be logical.
