IOT Developmental Thread

Everyone remember that Civ 3-based game I will be hosting soon? That focuses more on internal politics than external?

Well then, the poll results are in. We have Germany and Scandinavia tied for 1st with 4 votes each, with Italy in 3rd place at 3 votes.

You may now submit a preference vote, whether or not you plan on playing:

1. Germany
2. Italy
3. Scandinavia

I will be hosting the game in IOT, though a more story-based recap will be posted in Civ 3 Stories and Tales.

The premise is based on the Age of Imperialism mod, and will basically blend elements of a democracy game with realpolitik and such. I guess you could call it an "Oligarchy Game," though it could just as swiftly be an "Anarchy Game" with how I predict some players will go all Weimar Republic on each other's asses.

4. Russia

Für das Vaterland

So I watched a documentary a while ago named Evacuate Earth, which was about what would happen if a neutron star came to Earth and how we may escape from it, and I found it an intresting topic to make an IOT about it.

But the IOT is not going to take place when the neutron star is coming. It happens after it destroyed Earth and 80 years later we found a planet similar to ours and the IOT is based on colonizing the new planet and rebuilding human society. We will also start as separate nations on whatever spot we want on the planet and we can't meet any nations that are far away from us.

Would anyone be intrested? If so, any tips? I already have the maps (blank, relief and geography) of the planet ready.

This will be the map:

The areas with grey dots are the areas that will not be claimable until much later in the game. And yes, rivers do count as zone borders.

The yellowish-green areas are deserts, light green are grasslands, dark green are forests, brown are mountains and white... I think we all know...

I sense I will be interested in this game! :D

I am already imagining "who should I play as? The S.U.D.S again? A Platonic Republic again? A technocracy? What?"

The province map needs a little tidying up, as it is currently you are gonna have quite a few issues when it comes to filling in provinces. the way you turned it into a province map seems not to have worked well for the rivers causing them to just stop and start at random points. I have done some of the stuff (got rid of the colour change due to jpgs, increased the size of some of the small islands and removed others) but I have left the rivers out of this version of the map, you will have to re-add them.

Thanks for helping. I confess, I did not intend it to be a JPEG. I made it a PNG, but now Imageshack made the process harder. Now instead of just uploading and clicking to view in full size I have to upload, get the link, put it on original size and then copy and paste it.

EDIT: Here's the fixed map:

By the way, I decided to break up some northren regions in the southern continent.

I now decided that you will have 3.5 claims per turn and that the one-region islands will be 0.5 claims.

By the way: be sure to post your map on the Map Thread so NN can archive it: I for one would like to use that map for a fantasy IOT! :D

Anyway: what are the mechanics going to be like? Classic IOT? Simple stats? Complex stats? Something else?

What ever the case I will enjoy role playing in the game, what ever power I am to play as! :D

Where a combination of Technological Combinations (TP), Economical Points (EP), claims and population would this fall in on the categorties you mentioned?

Also, update on the map, now with oceanic regions:

Does anyone have a Regional Cyprus map? kinda like this one:

Spoiler huge map :

its at the county level, but i have no idea how to make it black and white, and cleaning the county borders. and a lot smaller.

i kinda had this idea of a game, where only one player emerges the victor, controlling every province there is.

It's a jpeg. Instant garbage on that front alone.

If you had a .png version of it I could easily turn it entirely black and white in a matter of minutes with GIMP. But JPEG forever is the spawn of the Devil.
