IOT Developmental Thread

Well, I don't know if that will be a problem or not.

I was thinking we were just going to go with universal European tech for all nations (unless someone actually wants to play someone who isn't up to that tech) since they're all player created.

EDIT: cross-post with Zelet: I don't think we are. It takes all the fun out of IOT :)

EDIT: As for the date, I could care less, since we're making up the countries. Though I'm more inclined to something even (like 1400 or 1500) just because it's nice and clean :)

sounds fair, but since ill be a city state, ill need to start off horribly on purpose. unless you dotn want that to happen. in the 1400s or 1500s, Constantinople was in bad shape.

i had the entire country Bio ready for the 1453 AD start...

Well, we could always put it to a vote (in fact we should).

What date should we start at?
-1400
-1453
-1500

1453. It will be interesting to see Byzantium as a tiny city-state, fighting for it's independence against the Ottoman horde (I think the Ottomans won because of an open gate that the Byzantines forgot about).

Really, It doesn't matter since we're not having pre-fab countries/historical borders.

Actually, I think I'll call another vote:

Historical borders, YES OR NO?

Advantages of historical borders:
- A more historically accurate experience.

Disadvantages of historical borders:
- Ruins the feel and premise of IOT, which allows you to create your own countries.
- Restrict what we can do in terms of tech level, economy, combat etc.
- Different players start at different levels. It's fine for people who take large advanced countries like Ming, France, England, Castile, Ottomans, but what about those who post later and get weaker countries?

It's a NO from me.

A yes from me. Why? Well, when you try to find out how to tell the GM where to expand without using a map, you'll know why.

Absolutely not for RL borders. That's not the point of this game, after all.

Historical borders
For - 2
Against - 4

I'm going to leave this poll open until this time tomorrow (9.15pm on Thursday, Melbourne time)

Joecoolyo can decide when he wants to close his starting date poll.

I'm happy enough with 1453 as a starting date. The fall of Byzantium seems as good a time as any to begin a Renaissance game. We should go with yearly turns with an historical setting.

I vote later than 1500 for the starting date and I vote a strong NO about pre-fab borders.

Due to either discussing things I specifically said not to, flaming other members, or just spamming up the thread, the following people will not be welcome in the next iteration of IOT:

-Omega (discussing games outside of IOT, almost saved by this post , but then went on to spam some more)
-Domination3000 (I didn't want to have to do this, seeing as you were the defender in this, but your eventual rage, and telling people not to play this version force me to have to do this)
-Mad Man (this post was uncalled for)

You are still welcome to post in this thread, but you will not be allowed to join the next game after what I've seen you do in the last 10 pages, and after all the warning's I've given. Just be lucky I'm not calling in the moderators to hand out infractions, though if you continue with this nonsense I won't hesitate to do so.

Some of you guys are this close to joining the people above, so I recommend not doing what you did in the last 10 pages.

Now, to go back to what was supposed to be discussed.

I think we should go with the HOI2 map, I want to say EUIII, but I think it's too heavily weighted towards Europe and the ROTW gets kinda left out.

(posting is re-allowed btw, I'm caught up)

Call in the mods if you like. I'm responding to this.

Omega- Actually, as far as I'm concerned, you guys are now officially discussing a new IOT game, and we're discussing the official one.

@Omega- Since your making a spinoff anyway (according to them), you can do whatcha want, though I'm not sure if that's Medieval or Modern.

Domination3000- I only was telling some people not to join if I was banned FOR NO REASON! If I was banned for breaking the rules, I would not do such a thing. For instance, if Omega bans me from IOT V, for a good reason, I'll accept it. If there's no reason whatsoever, I'll do the same thing I did here.

Also, you cannot ban anyone, as the game hasn't started, therefore, IOT is no longer here.

Mad Man- Oh Please!

1. He even GMed a game.

2. It was one freaking post! For fun! Yes, he did some stupid things with John Kerry in IOT IV/IOT II, but he did it one time and didn't pretend it affected anything. It was more humorous then real powergaming (Please don't do it again though, its only funny once.)

Yeah, ban whoever you like, without cause. I'll still be joining IOT V, you guys can have your nonsense spinoff.

1453. and for pre fab countries, im gonna say no. i can create the Byzantine city state anyways. what i really dont want is to be destroyed instantly by a particularly large ottoman empire. sorry, but being destroyed in a single turn isnt fun, espically when i wanted the chance to exist for a while.

The bolded part should be changed to "Hold an army of 20 Million and conquer the Ottomans."

And usually, that's what he says. Why isn't he banned too?
