IOT Enlightenment 2: Philosophers and Kings

We want peace, you are the one throwing around threats. Please cease talking while your betters discuss the fate of your nation.

On another note, I am willing to cede Iberia to the UK, but not the Netherlands.

Given the recent peace talks, the Romano-Yugoslavian Empire proposes the following peace treaty; we have tried to be as fair as possible to all parties involved.

  • The Repatriation of Norway to the Celtic Union [Norskandia]
  • The Repatriation of Spain to the United Kingdom
  • Release of the Netherlands as an independent state, with her independence guaranteed by the Celtic Union, the Romano-Yugoslavian Empire, & the Merchant Republic of Italia
  • Italian Recognition of the Free European Republic
  • Peace between Prussia & Italia
  • Limits on the size of the Military of the Merchant Republic of Italia

I'm not in that bad of a position. That leaves me with literally two provinces. I cannot accept that peace deal.

*checks update* Oh yeah, didn't notice that.

In light of this, we motion that need for the Italians to recognize the Free Republic be removed; the uprisings were obviously instigated by foreign agents; had the people themselves rejected Italian rule, they'd have revolted long ago. The Free Republic has absolutely no claim to legitimacy, and it is only right & proper that the wayward territories be returned to Italian rule; in fact, the Romano-Yugoslavian Empire pledges to help our Italian allies put down the illegitimate rebellion in Central Europe.

Hmm. Hindustan looks like it's in an interesting position. I think I'll enjoy the challenge, or the fall.

General Abbaluk hurried, if a General hurries, into the old seat of government of Hindustan, within the city of Delhi. Beside him, Colonel Selkit & the General's mistress, Imlaur, struggled to keep pace.

"What is this?" Colonel Selkit asked. "This place should be full of people."

"The cowards fled when they began to think we might lose." General Abbaluk replied, his eyes and voice hard as steel. "It is now up to us."

"Do you think you can do this?" Imlaur questioned. "The military, taking over leadership?"

"We can and I must." The General replied.

Two hours later...

General Abbaluk stood in front of the Chair of Leadership. Arrayed before him were twenty of his most trusted and senior officers, Colonel Selkit, and Imlaur.

"Normally, a nation features both a civilian and a military government. There is no civilian government anymore. They fled." The General explained, disgust coloring his voice. "The function of a government is to protect the heart of the nation, the people. We're what's left. So we're going to do our duty, no matter what. I have a plan to do this, and you need only listen."

"As the ranking officer, I will assume the title of Supreme Commander of Hindustan. This will preserve the chain of command, and ensure all the blame falls on me should we fail." Abbaluk indicated the officers. "Colonel Selkit, you are now promoted to General. Develop an action plan against the Chinese, and reassure our regular forces that this isn't the end. Colonel Mishja, you are now an Admiral. I want an action plan to defend our trade routes from Australia, again, within the hour."

The Supreme Commander then points at his mistress. "Imlaur, you are now an ambassador. Go to Australia, and promise them anything, anything at all, which will get them to call their ships off. We need to close that front or die."

Abbaluk again indicates the officers. "The rest of you are here because you have skills other than the leading of men into battle. I need a cabinet to advise me on foreign affairs, matters of espionage, and domestic concerns."

"Now go."

And they went.

Five hours later...

"Supreme Commander, our audit of forces is complete." General Selkit began "Under no circumstances do we believe direct war with either China or Australia is practicable at this time." Admiral Mishja finished.

"Ugh. Very well then, see what the Chinese want for peace." Abbaluk resignedly ordered. "Except it's probably too late. The civilian government left this undone far too long. Prepare a defense, any defense."

OOC: In case my point wasn't made, that was me taking over Hindustan. Ninjacow, respond! Please!

By order of the Supreme Commander, these terms are...acceptable. So long as we are given time to evacuate the civilians of Pakistan & Bangladesh before your armies arrive.

-Imlaur, Ambassador of the Military Government of Hindustan

LH, can you extend the Orders Lock for other 12 hours to send new orders?

From Emperor Qianlong, Emperor of China and Emperor of India

I've sent my orders now, so it doesn't matter as much for me. I guess.

Provincestats:

In an attack that defies the peace treaties being signed and prepared, the Celtic Union launches a massive invasion of Italy and Southern France. They dispatch six Ships of the Line and two Privateers to the Mediterranean in order to facilitate their attack. What opposes them? Two Italian Privateers, one Ship of the Line, as well as two and seven respectively of Romanian versions. A Celtic victory destroys an Italian Privateer, but at the cost of three Celtic Ships of the Line. The Romanians and Italians withdraw through the Bosporus into the Black Sea.

In a vineyard near Marseilles, six Italian Regulars oppose seven Celtic Regulars in a battle to the death. One Celtic Regular survives to return to the landing ships, to no Italian losses. Southern France holds. Unfortunately for Italy, eight Regulars and one irregular cannot hold Italy itself, and the Celts force their way ashore despite losing a General and a Regular, destroying six Italian Regulars in the process. To the north, the Norskandians attack Norway with two Regulars to one Italian - Norskandia win. The Italians are evacuated by Romanian ships and live to fight another day.

In retaliation for this attack, the Romanians launch a massive sea-borne invasion of Norskandia. To their surprise, the ENTIRE Norskandian Army was sent to attack Norway, and Karelia, Sweden and Finland fall without a fight.

Attempted insurrections in Canada and Portugal have been put down by New Welsh agents. Unfortunately, Portugal manages a second rebellion, forming three Irregulars loyal to the Iberian throne. They are opposed by three Regulars and an Irregular willing to argue the point with them. New Wales wins easily.

Meanwhile, the New Welsh fleet moves to blockade Iberia in Exile, seeming to forget what the CSA did to the last fleet that tried that stunt. The Confederate Navy moves to engage. The New Welsh, not wanting a war with the Confederates, immediately back off as the newly-enlarged CSN shoos them away with seven Ships of the Line, two Privateers and one Admiral.

Unfortunately for Iberia, the CSN doesn't mind the New Welsh invading the exiled kingdom, and now six New Welsh Regulars face five Iberian Regulars in the jungles of Panama. After a quick battle, the Iberians kill two New Welsh regiments at the cost of one of their own. The invaders beat a hasty retreat.

The Iberians send ten Regulars storming northward - five each into Cascadia and the Great Plains. The New Welsh in the Plains ready defenses with three Regulars, whereas the Dene prepare their own five Regulars to withstand the Iberian assault. The Iberians cannot force a breach in the mountains of Cascadia before winter sets in, but lose no troops compared to two Dene Regulars. In the Great Plains, however, the New Welsh lose all three Regulars and fail to inflict any noticible casualties on the Iberians. The Great Plains fall.

After a spate attempts to incite desertion in Romania's army peter out, the Keme launch a truly massive, nine Regular, seven Irregular and two General invasion of the Caucasus. Romania replies with eight defending Regulars and a General. The Keme lose, and with that defeat go four Regulars and two Irregulars. They hit back, though, for three Regulars. Clearly, it's war between Romania and the Kingdom of Keme now.

Australia colonizes Micronesia easily, Prussia secures Hanover, and Hindustan seizes Mysore after ceding Bangladesh and Pakistan to China. The Keme and Cape both send troops to claim the Ivory Coast - let's see what happens! The Cape Republic has sent four Regulars, and Keme has sent four Regulars and three Irregulars. The natives have two Irregulars. The Cape wins, but lose a Regular in the process, failing to inflict any casualties on the Keme.

-L

The Kingdom of Keme has impressed the Cape Republic's Hand of the Military Class, Che Vega. Let not the bloodshed cause ill between the Republic and the Kingdom. Let us set a pact of non-aggression to ensure we do not cause bloodshed between each other and perhapes a joint Military Training Pact to ensure that both methods of our military training can combine to aid the moral of our forces.

I'd like to point out that a peace treaty was being discussed, not signed, but the Italians consistently refused to agree to our perfectly reasonable terms.
We also condemn the unprovoked and illegal attack on Norskandia by Romania. If all conquered Norskandian territory, North Urals included, are immediately repatriated we will forget this unfortunate incident - you can forget about any further reparations though.
