IOT: Land Ho!

Fair enough, but that was one priest, not all of them. Imo, they were just enacting vengeance, something they must be taught to cease, not get attacked in revenge so it will be justified.

OOC: I. Did. Not. Declare War on the Llanfars. I closed the Straits of Gibraltar to them. I was planning on engaging in diplomatic talks in a few turns, when Miltiades IV was going to be succeeded by Felix VII, but that plan went out the window when Aragon attacked.

I thought you were going to attack them after you built up enough political allies. Whatevs.

Still, you have been kind of heavy-handed with the Pope. IOTers do NOT like Popes, or anyone who is in the authority to tell them what to do. When a faction's RP has actual repercussions, things get more tense. It's the main reason why I left the church.

Anyway, you controlling anything in Iberia is ridiculous. Any other form of compensation available? What's even more ridiculous is the number of DPs and alliances you have in a medieval game...

Somehow it escaped me to mention this earlier, but I decided to put a cap of three white provinces a turn allowed for expansion, plus one for every twenty EP's you invest in exploratory technology, a new type of project.

Otherwise the Americas will became far too crowded far too quickly.

Okay.

OOC: A reasonable assumption. It just turned out to be false.

IC: Considering the history of my nation, it is actually not ridiculous. That being said, I suppose adequate compensation would be the other Pillar of Heracles (Other Gibraltar territory), plus 10 EPs (what I would have gotten from the territories he keeps after two turns) & aid in recapturing the Holy Land. If holding even ONE Iberian territory is unacceptable, then I would wish for 18 EPs (what I would have gotten from the lost territories after three turns), aid in recapturing the Holy Land, & a sort of 'Joint Control' of Gibraltar, where all decisions concerning the Strait would have to be agreed upon by both Aragon & the Holy See. Of course, we cannot negotiate these terms without Aragon present, & even then, by declaring War on a Nation, you declare War on that Nation's allies, so I would need their approval. As for your second point, I do not find it ridiculous that the Pope has so many Catholic Allies. I do suppose that my Defensive Pact with the Greco-Turks is somewhat questionable, though.

Declare war on the Netherlands

RP later.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, by declaring war on the Netherlands, you are declaring War on their Ally, France. And by declaring War on France, you are declaring War on Me & My Allies. Please reconsider your decision.
-Pope Miltiades IV

You aren't allies(officially) with the Netherlands, I double-checked :c

That last point, I like it.

Cap on DP's: 3
Cap on alliances: 3
Does not affect existing DP's/ alliances.

No, he's not declaring on France, France is declaring on him BECAUSE of the alliance.

Heh, my history is ridiculous, but I am an Iberian faction.

Still, we need to wait for Tambien to show up.

-Pope Miltiades IV

I'm just worried that it will turn into a massive religious war, with most Catholics vs (probably) all Protestants, Milan, Burgundy, and several "other" factions. If so, I believe it would be in everyone's best interest not to completely annex anyone with over 10 territories.

Yes, but full-on Alliances pull the signatory parties into any conflict either of them becomes engaged in. Ergo, when The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland declared War on the Netherlands, France was obligated to declare War on them. And since I have a full-on Alliance with France, if France gets involved (which they'll have to), I'll have to get involved. Sorry.

I didn't realize you specifically mentioned that alliances are aggression-mandatory.

Pope Miltiades IV hopes that you are aware of the position you have landed yourself in, Aragon. You are now at war with the Teutonic Order (Ally), the Token Kingdom of France (Ally), Meroe (Ally), the Union of Merchant Republics (DP), the Greco-Turkish Union (DP), the Holy Roman Empire (DP), & the Netherlands (Proxy Ally). (Syria & Hejaz are at war with the aforementioned parties, too)
His Holiness will call off this war & make peace, however, if you return all Papal Lands taken to the Holy See & assist His Holiness in the retaking of the Holy Land.

The following elect not to war against Aragon:

Meroe
HRE

No NPC you are allied with elects to join you against Syria or Hejaz.

I, for one, welcome the impending religious war :mischief:

And an excellent job on that spreadsheet.

After carefully observing the situation, I do too.

By My Decree:

For NPC's, friendly relationships work thusly:

Alliance- Everything below and any war one country enters, the other must happen (madatory aggression).
Defensive Pact- NAP and DoW on any aggressors.
NAP- No aggression

France has an Alliance with the Netherlands. France offered me an Alliance. If I only desire a defensive alliance, I offer a Defensive Pact. I assumed that by offering me an Alliance instead of aforementioned Pact, France was asking for an Aggression-Mandatory Alliance.

What the @#%& is the point of signing Alliances & Defensive Pacts if no one is going to honor them?!?!

I don’t

What the @#%& is the point of signing Alliances & Defensive Pacts if no one is going to honor them?!?!

Global prestige. If you don't honor them, people won't expect you to. If you're bad enough, you might even get invaded. They are also to dissuade attackers and provide a free casus belli.

International politics are fun. :crazyeye:

OOC: So, just to clarify, am I the only nation here that considers binding diplomatic agreements binding?

Assuming you honor your Alliance with the Netherlands, you are at War with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Assuming you honor you Alliance/Defensive Pact (some confusion has been expressed as to which it is) with His Holiness, you are at War with Aragon. And perhaps Andorra & Llanfar if they join. That being said, it is possible that peace with Aragon will be achieved soon. As to the question of whether or not you can expand, I do not believe anyone has said you cannot.
