I occasionally will do midway updates for events of significance. This is one of those times. It will be short, but here it is.

OOC: The Protestant Reformation came early. I had planned it to be somewhat later by setting the probability to 5%, but a die roll is a die roll...

The Protestant Reformation has set a wave of chaos across Europe. In the electorate of Saxony, a man named Ulrich Uhde has posted a controversial listing of grievances against a church door. Fed up with Papal abuses, a new religion is spreading across Europe, that rejects the authority of the Pope. The Holy Roman Emperor called at a Diet at Worms in an attempt to crush the heretical religion. However the attempt proved futile; in response, the Protestant states of Saxony and the cantons of Switzerland have declared their independence. In the ensuing chaos, the electorate of Holstein was captured by the opportunistic Dutch, who had converted to Protestantism. The Duchy of Milan, formerly a vassal state of the Holy Roman Empire, also took the opportunity to declare its independence.

OOC: All Catholic nations now have the opportunity to convert to Protestantism. The advantage is an immediate 30 EP bonus due to the seizing of church lands. The downside is a strong probability of revolt amongst religious dissidents. Choose wisely.

Also I noticed several people are making expeditions to America this turn. They cannot. Your armies and navies cannot be used until the turn after they are built.

Also, unless he stops trading with Llanfar, he can't access the Straits of Gibraltar. So, no American Expedition.

Ironically enough, as I just realized, HE CAN'T TRADE with Llanfar in the first place unless you give him passage through Gibraltar.

Cape of Good Hope was universally feared by all sane (and most insane) sailors by the time Sir Walter Raleigh was around, assuming Blackadder II is a source to be trusted. Also, no one really went inland in Africa until way after the fear of hope was conquered.

1. It remains (increased chance of revolts)
2. No, as my map extends only to Tibet and India was colonized before inner Africa.

1. How do you plan on getting there? Can't use navies immediately, and there's no possible route even if you could because Hejaz and Yemen or the Mamelukes and Meroe don't plan on letting you through their lands

People of Aragon! Let me first begin this speech by telling you about free religion in this nation!You are free to be a member of whatever church you wish, however there is one church that shall recieve funding from the state. That is the SSR, State-Sponsored-Religion. As you all know, the current SSR is Catholicism.

Recently the Pope has been abusing his holy power. Indeed, my sources in Rome have indicated that the Pope has even sold his soul to Satan!

*shcoked silence, then some disbelieving noises*

I know! I know! This allegation was hard for me to believe as well! So, I traveled on the ANS Ramiro I to find out for myself! Lo and behold! When I arrived, I found the Pope surrounded by a circle of concubines! The floor was strewn with Pagan symbols!

*complete quiet*

This angered me greatly, and I asked the Pope, "Why father, why?" His reply proved to me that he, and the Church which he begat, were of Satan.

He said, "Child, the Devil offered me more."

*Angry Sounds, Shouts in the Crowd, Police Officers Tensing*

This proves to me that the State cannot sponsor such a devilish organization.

This is what I decided after spending many nights contemplating this matter.

Aragon will sponsor Protestantism! We shall still be Christian, but there will be no devil Pope directing us! While Aragon will still have free religion, it is just the state-sponsored churches will change from Catholicism to Protestantism.

That night effigies of the Pope, and paintings of him, were used as tinder in great bonfire celebrations across the city. The news traveled quickly, and while not all people converted, 95% of the population of Aragon became Protestant. Ramiro II severed all ties with the Catholic Church. He could be heard saying, "Let the Pope burn in Hell."
