IOT Map Thread.

Thank you for that clarification AA :D

I am considering this by Mosher to be used for Cumhail but I am wondering whether I need to expand the map in some way to have more provinces or even make it that the map link is a corner of the world.

What ever the case hope for a large enough world for a classic IOT with exploration and fantasy glory! :D

Forgive me for the double post but I have done zee map...

Credit to Mosher for doing the original map I copied into the map of Cumhail, allowing me a foundation piece of creating the map I have set forth.

On the subject, how does one make good borders? I can tell bad ones from a mile off, yet almost any time I try to draw a territorial map of my own it seems to sink into the same pattern.

The first step is "be TK." I don't know what the rest are.

I just adapt real borders.
On that subject, you can use my fantasy map, It is good unless you don't like small provinces.

The problem with a lot of fantasy maps is they're either a few islands or one really big landmass. Continents are rarely a thing. The first Mobius map was actually pretty good, but it was kinda just the world but different.

Adapt, imitate, or get inspiration from real borders.

A good tip I got from NES a long while ago was to first roughly draw the shape of the landmasses and the countries, and perhaps also roughly place the major geographical features. Then make the lines more natural-looking, eg coastline with some parts jagged and some smooth, borders that follow a mountain-range or a river, different sizes and shapes provinces, very occasional straight lines on the map to show borders drawn by treaty, and so on.

Hoplite's fantasy map is pretty good. I'd say the coastlines have a few too many sharp points, and the land borders could use a bit more work, though that might be my personal aesthetics talking.

:agree: Part of the problem I think is that in my experience fantasy stories always concentrate on a section of the world, if there even is mention of a Larger World, and so they're drawn up in the form (and to the scale) of a flat regional map, rather than a globe. I mean heck, even Middle-earth is only a snapshot of a (presumably) much larger planet.

I may consider Hop's map; it just I designed my map in a attempt to have lots of provinces to claims.

Isles were a massive consideration when it came to my game to be.

What ever the case I will definitely consider Hop's map. I will have not rule out the map I did but only because of the lakes and in consideration that it could be improved.

Still: I will consider Hop's map.

Exactly, I've seen this a few places, and it's still only one continent. It looks like the books take place in a rather small area.

Mordor looks rather silly.

Omigosh that map is beautiful.

There's this fantasy map/world I've been working on since I was seven that incorporates plate tectonics and all sort of crazy stuff. I keep reworking it 'cause it turns out that creating a believable, engaging story, imagining a planet, and writing 5,000+ years of history from scratch is really hard.

I have in consideration of Hop's map decided to test my mapping skills my having a isle in the far north-west: the idea was to have a lake with a isle in the map.

Hop Map with a added bit in the right corner added by Aile.png

I will keep to Hop's original map but this is just a taking, a pratice that could appear in Camhail just for the idea of a map with lakes in it; bonus points if one of the lakes has a isle in it.

Keep to Hop's original or Hop's map with the added bits in the top left?

Keep the original.

I will.

I will just need to check the rules and some foundation lore: then I can launch the ship! :D

...I can always add more provinces if it gets too full: a new land may be founded... ;)

Just pointing out that Red Spy made the map, I only commissioned it.
