If your borders connected they would theoretically be able to trade. However, diplomacy with a horde can be erratic.

In light of cataclysmic events that have shook our world and The Human Edict of Queen Jadwiga, the Pope Celestine III believes that the Orthodox and Catholic churches should enter a period of renewed cooperation and reconciliation. Heretics occupy the Holy Land and much of Germany, while the Daemones Dubio rampage the countryside. Although we recognize that the differences between our Churches will not disappear overnight, the The Human Edict of Queen Jadwiga has proven that we can find common ground as Christians. We wish to open a dialogue between representatives of both the religious and secular leaders of the Orthodox countries, Poland-Lithuania and the Papal States to help us find common ground. I believe that the most appropriate place to hold this meeting would be in Poland, with the permission of Queen Jadwiga of course. We hope that this endeavour will encourage a new age of peace and prosperity for our people.

After discussions with the Papal States, the King of Novogord is convinced that his offer is sincere. Not only do we accept his offer to send delegations, but Novogord hereby proclaims that from now on Catholics will be fully tolerated in the Empire.

The Orthodox Church is still the official Church of Novogord, but the Catholic Church is formally permitted to exist and preach within Novogord. It will have to pay for it's own operations, however. The State will still support the Orthodox Church, and will tolerate the Catholic Church but lend it no official aid.
