OOT: Does that actually affect anything?

The year was 1836. The elections had just brought the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) into power with the election of Australia's 7th president, John Carter.

Carter stepped onto the inauguration podium in front of the newly built Australian Senate Hall in the Capitol District of Brisbane. The crowd of 20,000 or so that had gathered in the Capitol Park applauded.

Carter started his speech, "Thank you all for getting me to this point. I love Australia. I love the Australian people. I want to make this nation great.

"I also would like to thank my friend and previous president Roger Macdonald. Even though I ran against him and his Pacific Party, just cause we are in different parties does not mean we have to be hated enemies. I would like to thank him for running this great nation for 4 great years.

"I will continue Macdonald's efforts to expand the Republic beyond our home island. The people of Indonesia see us as equals and friends. I know King Jayavaraman of Jakarta as a personal friend. Australian traders have established operations with our friends to the north. I do not want to brutally conquer other lands like other countries in Europe are already beginning to do. The Indonesians are our friends and allies. I will make an offer to annex the islands. The Indonesians will greatly benifit from Australian sovereignty.

"The Republic has great foreign connections, not only with the other nations of the Amerosia alliance but also with other countries. I will continue to peacefully encourage trade, travel, and diplomacy with other countries.

"I hope you will support me as I begin a new chapter in our nation's history. 40 years ago, our fathers declared independance from the iron fist of kings and dictators in favor of a government of public servants determined by the people for the people. I will continue that tradition of Australian democracy and make this country better."

The crowd broke into applause.

Wait, RP is good?

War! War! We need war! shouted roughly half of the king's advisers. They saw the failure of converting Malaya to Siam's side as the failure of diplomacy. However, the king would not have it. War brought only death and destruction. There was no merit in killing those who opposed you, nor any reward in burnt fields. The king saw this not as a failure of peaceful ways, but of Siam itself. It was simply not influential enough to the Malays for them to accept vassalage. Siam was once a bastion of culture and commerce under the Sukhothai, and it would be again.

I have heard enough of your desires of tribulations! the king angrily replied. We are not going to war, and if possible, we never will. Invading our neighbors will be seen as a sign of weakness, and that is because it is one. The only way to find prosperity is to create it, not steal it. Taking what is not ours will make ourselves look bigger than we actually are, and that is not something we can afford in this modern age. So cease, desist, and go home, all of you! My decision has been made, and your complaints do nothing to change it.

I'm sorry-- I'm a little confused. Who started these wars, who's involved, and why did this happen? Was Spain the beginning or am I missing something?

Spain got an event. They chose the war option.
Rome expanded into Turkey. People got pissed. Now they're fighting pretty much half of Europe.

The SRO gives an ultimatum to Spain:

Negotiate peace with Britain within the next two turns, or we will bring war upon your nation.

I like how everyone always brings allies into war. Never any small wars in these games. There should be a mechanic for that.

Okay, well, to be honest, I don't care if all of Europe is warring with each other. That'll weaken them and keep them out of Africa.

Britain's terms are thus:

1. You surrender any territory in Mahgreb that you have taken by force.

2. You surrender any claims to Portugal and Sahel to Britain.

3. A tribute of 1 IC will be paid to Britain, and any other allies that contribute to the NATO war effort against you, for anywhere from 3-7 turns decided by NATO and depending on your actions in that that time.

4. You reimburse Britain and any other allies of Britain that join the war for any IC spent on supplies during the time of the war.

5. Your military is limited to one navy and one army for 10 turns unless otherwise voted upon by NATO.

6. You join NATO and assist any NATO members that come under attack, whether by IC assistance or by committing your military force to the conflict, for a minimum of 10 turns.

7. You sign a treaty promising not to be the aggressor in any war for the next 20 turns.

If Spain does not agree to these terms, or otherwise offer a set of similar terms that Britain and by extension NATO finds acceptable, that Britain and NATO allies will not stop pursuing the war until annexation. Britain hopes the BA finds these terms suitable, as they WERE the aggressor, and this will put Britain behind in the race to Industrial Dominance. Britain does not wish for the BA to become an enemy, or an adversary.

How does Spain respond?

I like these big wars :p Nations that are non-agressive like Australia can get an industrial and scientific lead with lots of other nations fighting wars.

...You do realize that Spain just attacked an AFRICAN TERRITORY that Britain had recently convinced to join their nation? Right? Alot of the fighting in the first phase of this war is actually bound to take place in North Africa. I apologize for this warfare coming to Africa, but Britain will do its best to stop the aggressor and eject him from africa as soon as possible.

Britain's terms are thus:

<utterly absurd terms>

This makes you just as bad as Spain, if not worse!

White peace!

IMO, I think that if Britain gets their hands on a full Maghreb they will continue militarily to expand deeper into Africa and threaten Siorese and Horn of Africa. Britain just seems too over-expansionist.

North Africa isn't the same place as Africa.

A white peace? When Spain has attacked a neutral nation and forced said nation to divert funds from direly needed industrial and scientific growth into the military instead? They must pay! This is a major setback, not to mention they reneged on a deal! Traitors! Like I said, if Spain can come up with reasonable terms for us, then we will consider them, but what i presented is what I expect. Less is almost certainly going to be the result, but you have to have a goal eh?

Britain finds it saddening that Australia thinks of Britain in such a bad light. We respect the claims of other nations in Africa, and greatly admire the organization and unity of the Native Africans. It would be a great folly to start a war in Africa, especially should it endanger the native nations. We wish to reclaim mahgreb (which is rightfully ours, being invaded right now by Spain) and to claim Sahel, which is the Spanish claim in Africa. this would give us 3 territories overall, on par with most nations around the world. Now that Spain has attacked us, we find it right that our long time allies Portugal should be incorporated into our country as well. 4 Territories. You call that expansionist? Thats the same number of claims that African nations are getting.

We have no territorial ambitions once we get the territories we have claimed, unless Quebec decides to abandon ceylon in favor for somewhere else. otherwise, we are restricted to Sahel, Mahgreb, the home isles, and Portugal.

Our ideal standing army in peace shall be, if finances permit, will be 3 navies, and two armies. More could be recruited quickly in times of war.

North Africa isn't the same place as Africa.

...Um YES IT IS. North Africa IS PART OF the African continent, and therefore, an African territory...

"What? You're declaring war on me because I provoked you? Even though you actually haven't done any damage to my economy I am going to ask for a bazillion dollars in reparations! Ha ha! Take that, you uncouth knave!"

North Africa has always been considered to be on the Mediterranean before being Africa. Are you saying Ethiopia and South Africa are ALSO on the Mediterranean?

Congratulations Britain and Afghanistan, once trade begins, you will get preferential treatment. You will see what that means sometime in the near future.

We are honored to hear our own General has bee one of the two selected. May this usher in an era of friendship between our people.
