Iron and Blood - Game Thread

Canada observes that the new state of Greece appears to be a Kingdom, whereby the King(s) lead the country and not an elected representative., yet it has a national assembly.

We would like to discuss this curious arrangement in more detail*, so that we do not tread on any toes in our future diplomatic dealing.

Librulstan finds the Greek government's bipolar disorder to be... strange, to say the least. Is there a government psychiatrist that deals with that sort of thing?

In the meantime, we recognize Libya and Turkey, and will recognize Greece as soon as their government starts to make more sense.

German Federal Election - 1901

A heavy preemptive civil and military police presence in the months before the election probably helped to thwart the sort of violence that marred the Election of 1897. Sporadic incidents, mostly in the increasingly volatile, ethnically-mixed state of Transylvania, were quickly dealt with.

The Popular Front, despite its internal struggles between so-called "moderates" and "radicals", was able to successfully campaign on its handling of the Dreyfus-Esterhazy Incident and its management of the economy, winning control of the key state of Prussia from the National Front. However, with the continuing dominance of ethnic Germans in government, ethnic minorities are starting to turn to their own parties, who are more organised this time than in the last election. The Popular Front lost the Yugoslav states of Carniola and Croatia-Slavonia to the nationalist Yugoslav People's Party. In Polish-majority West Galicia, perceived neglect and Bebel's government continuing reluctance to officially recognise the Poland-based Soviet regime led to the KPGZ (Communist Party of West Galicia) breaking ranks with the federal KPD (Communist Party of Germany). The KPGZ proceeded to win the election, running on an autonomist platform. The new West Galician leader invited Soviet diplomats to the West Galician capital of Krakow, thereby unofficially recognising the new Soviet state, causing a scandal.

As a result of the KPGZ and other defections, the Popular Front actually lost seats in the Reichstag, though as a coalition it still has enough seats to govern. Bebel remained in his position as Chancellor and head of the coalition government, though many wondered whether he would be able to keep it together for the next four years; moderates see him as too radical, while radicals think of him as too soft. The monarchist and nationalist DVNP grew from a relatively minor party in the 1897 election to the largest party within the National Front, offering a glimmer of hope to the exiled Hohenzollerns (currently in Xi'an, having left Russia as the communist uprising worsened).

King Ariston wonders what Librulstan is talking about. How is it bipolar if two separate people hold a different set of manners?

Greece thinks it can take on Librulstan!

A Greek King just informed the government of Librulstan that he was polishing his sword after hearing a librul official commenting on his bipolar government. The Greek Government in Crazy I tell you. If you are in Turkey, be thankful you don't live in Greece, If you are Greek, I tell you that Turey is a great place to immigrate to.

Midterm elections, 1902
it appears that out of the 350 senate seats, 255 of them belong to Ahmad's Turkish Democratic party. The Nationalists (or Fascists) won 4 seats. The neo-Ottomans won 41 seats. The Communists won 11 seats, and the socialists 9. The Libertarians won 7 seats. The remaining seats went to small insignificant parties. Ahmad's Democratic party can pass any bill they want.

Siam would like to remind the Greeks that a sword is no longer an effective weapon, unless the wielder is Scottish.

It's been a long time since you've had independence. We get it.

Hopefully Greece can sort out it's.... problem. Meanwhile.....

1902 Libyan Midterm election

During the Libyan's Midterm election, it's first ever, here are the results: Out of 400 seats in Congress the New People's Party took 189 seats while The Party of Allah grabbed 121 seats. The Workers of Libya got 60 seats and The Libyan Socialist Party grabbed 29 seats. Only 1 seat was grabbed by the newest party: The Christian National Party.

OOC: So...for actually putting effort into a nation, I get a bunch of people insulting and criticizing it. Thanks guys. real encouraging.

King Ariston would like to know what kind of drug laws Turkey has, and whether its journalists are high when they write their stories. We would also like to note that calling aq country, its government, or quite simply anyone crazy is definitely proof of bias.

King Lacedaemon simply turns around and pulls out his own personal maxim machine gun and starts to clean it in full view of the Siamese.

King Ariston goes on and asks Libya and Turkey to actually provide insight to their government and their people, as they have failed to do so in reasonable detail.

FRANCE

Exposition_universelle_1900.jpg

Paris during celebrations marking the new Century.

The 20th century had finally arrived for France! With a new government, came a new century, and a new status quo in Europe. No longer did France have virtually total power in the continent, as Russia joined the Accord, and Germany joined the UNA. However, Bosnia would remain a minor player in Europe.

With the new century, came full industrialization. The nation had achieved full industrialization and employment, and building new factories was no longer the answer to fix economic woes. Instead, France must look outwards to increase her wealth and power. The economy must move towards technology, and French culture must remain dominant. The defense forces weakened during the Dreyfus-Esterhazy Affair, and the war that followed, but they must be rebuilt to a size never before seen. President Armand Fallières was the first true leader France has had since Jules Grevy, although Felix Faure was a good President, he was virtually powerless, as was exposed during the Dreyfus trial.

As such, a new policy has taken over French politics. Nationalism is on the rise for the first time in ages, as people begin to see the rest of the world as rightful French domain. The French Revolution has been revived by Armand Fallières, with the ideals that all of Europe, and perhaps beyond, should be united under the French flag, with liberty and justice for all. It was even spreading in the Co-Prosperity sphere. "The riots in Iceland and Portugal must be brought to a peaceful end," in the words of the President. "We must not allow our mighty nation to fall apart because some misguided youth have taken it upon themselves to make themselves slaves to a foreign master. We might have different ethnicity, but we are all Europeans, and we are all, more or less, French." This was received with huge applause all over western Europe, as Fallieres spent a good portion of 1900 reviving the original cause of the French revolution, Liberty.

President Fallieres embarked upon a mission with Bosnia to liberate many people in the East, however, Bosnia managed to convince the people that they were nothing more then property of the Sultan, and worthless at that. They rioted, and much of the land was set up in illegitimate "democracies," were the people were a pawn to the ruling party, with Greece having the stupidity to insert a monarchy. France does not like monarchies.

In 1900, The Grand Paris Laboratory was built, a center for scientific research throughout the Republic. Their first goal was to design warships even larger then the destroyers. Many said that these were to be the largest ships in the world, even bigger the the finest Russian cruise liners! They were appropriately named, grand navire de guerre. Perhaps soon other nations may follow in the production of these grand vessels.

King Ariston is greatly upset that France thionks Greece is a mere monarchy. yes, we have a dual monarch system, but the people themselves play an unprecedented role in our government, far more than any other nation gives them. our people, our Apella, not only elect the National Assembly, but they also vote directly on some of the more important decisions when they are brought up by the council of Elders.

Not only that, but we have the Ephors to oversee justice, the council to impart wisdom upon us and make sure we dont repeat the same mistakes, and the National Assembly which are elected by the people.

You should also know, that Greece was the birthplace of democracy, and Sparta was in fact one of the two cities that democracy first sprung up in. Athens and Sparta were the very first 2 places on earth where democracy came to be, and Greece remains true to that legacy by using Sparta's old system, which yes, included a monarchy, but they were ultimately subservient to the people.

Also, as Colombia says, most of your allies are monarchies. Does this mean you dislike your own allies? If so, what does this mean for the accord?

Compensating for something, are we?

Or perhaps "Maxim Machine Gun" is just one of those unusual Greek euphemisms.

I see.

I would now like to take the time to say that pedophilia is outlawed in every inch of my country.

Notice Greece does not have the gonads to directly threaten France. It is because she relies on France to control Gibraltar, which keeps her safe.

The part in bold I disagree with. Libya gives just as much freedom, maybe even more than your "Greek Democracy." We also actually elect our own leader, and not have to put up for one for 40+ years. We also allow our congress to pass laws, but we allow the people, THEN the congress, then the prime minister to decide if the law should be passed. We also shall impeach our prime minister if he is found violating our constitution. How's that. Go real democracy!!!!!!!
