GM: All new DoWs must be in the next 5 hours or they will be excluded.

Yeah: 2000th post above

The Russian Council of Ministers was in disarray. New and often conflicting reports had been a regular cause for concern and debate inside the council chambers for the past two years, and rarely did anyone have an accurate idea of the situation outside St. Petersburg, which changed and moved as fast as the Soviet advance.

Germany had declared war on Russia, the reports stated. No, it was an unofficial brigade that happened to be based in Germany. France had declared war on the Soviet Union. No, the entire Accord was at war with the Soviet Union. The Red Army were being led by a ‘man of steel’, who cut down his enemies with a hammer and sickle. Odessa had fallen. Minsk had fallen. Volgograd had fallen. Moscow was besieged, or was it already in the hands of the enemy?

There was rumours of Soviet propaganda…

In fact, Lenin’s forces were attacking the fortress city of Smolensk, drawing crucial reserves from Moscow. Crucial, because at the same time Stalin’s forces were driving up from the Caucasus towards the city. Along the Alexander Line Russian forces continued to hold back the enemy, but they could only continue so long as Smolensk and Moscow were in loyalist hands. Luckily, the great reserve of Russian conscripts had been called up and were mobilised - the great counter-attack, backed by the resources of Russia's allies in the Accord, could end the Soviet threat once and for all.

Where was the Kan in all this? Throughout the beginning of the was he had taken an active role in the running of the government and military affairs, but following the failure of Mercury he had become more and more withdrawn, retreating back to his Winter Palace. By 1903 he was rarely seen outside the palace, let alone taking any sort of role in the running of his nation.

The drawing room of the Winter Palace

The truth of the matter was that, for the last few months of his life, the elderly Kan was simply defeated, and preferred to await the inevitable. He spent hours pouring over new passenger liner designs in the drawing room, the design of which had inspired the interiors of many of the more luxurious Russian ships. He regularly met with the exiled royal family of Germany, themselves trapped in St. Petersburg, meetings which could not have helped his own state of mind. The Kan remained strangely optimistic that Lenin would allow him to go into exile himself. Maybe to Paris? He had always enjoyed his visits to France.

It was not to be.

OOC: Nah, that's unlikely. The whole civil war thing was really just giving me something to do and write about (Kiwitt was kind enough to play along). I don't really intend to follow the same route as the USSR (I didn't even intend on having Lenin as leader, that was thrown in there). Actually I had more things to write about had the Russian Empire won the war.

So now I'm stuck with a historical character in charge, and an Accord wanting to wipe out the country. Maybe I should have stuck with ships?

GM: Commentary

A lone gunshot rang out across St Petersburg, some birds fluttered, but there was an eerie silence. A bit like the calm before the storm. A soldier entered the magnificent drawing room in the Winter Palace and lying on the floor was 'The Kan'. Dead - one bullet directly to the heart.

Then screams were heard from the palace to those outside, then troops rushing around unsure what to do. Then one zealous officer, said "It must be one of those people milling outside. Go get them. If they resist shoot them!"

The number killed is uncertain but the ex-Kan's officials recorded 96 dead and 333 injured; anti-government sources claimed more than 4,000 dead; moderate estimates still average around 1,000 killed or wounded, both from shots and trampled during the panic.

So ends the rule of the once mighty Kan in a day which will be forever remembered as "Bloody Sunday"

GM: The Territories of Russia, Siberia and parts of Kazakhstan not already controlled by the Soviet Union will become NPC'ed by me for the time being as "Old Imperial Russia loyalists", albeit severely weakened

GM: Kan' Sharuminar now leads the now emboldened Soviet Union. Quickstats have been changed

How can you declare history to be non-canon?

FRANCE

0419-redscare.jpg

In mid 1901, another Red Scare had begun. This time, across all of the co-Prosperity Sphere. The leaders of the communist parties across Europe were forced into hiding by massive protesters, as the people feared a communist regime would take over all of Europe. In late 1901, the anti-communist sentiment reached Parliament, and on January 15, 1902, France officially declared war on the USSR, along with every single nation in the co-Prosperity sphere. Iceland was still administered by France, but the people had calmed down and even they supported the move. Youth joined the Army in a surge of patriotism never before seen, and people cried out for war against the communists. Although communism was not outlawed in France, no communist would dare show his face, for fear of public violence against him. The government suspects that communists make up less than 1% of the population now. They certainly have lost all representation in the various parliaments. By February, every member nation of the co-Prosperity sphere was at war with the USSR.

Armand Fallieres wanted to have a peaceful presidency, but as he saw communism taking over Russia, even he wanted to stop it. He had an election to worry about, in 1905, but nothing could be further from his mind. The armed forces are already strong, and the nation is prepared to launch an offensive unlike any ever before seen on the face of the earth. She stands with Medina, a noble ally of France, ready to defeat the USSR, something she has not yet seen. Well, she better get used to it.

GM: Initial DoW phase is now over.

Existing Conflicts
U.S.S.R. versus Imperial Russia

Initial DoWs
France versus U.S.S.R.
Medina versus U.S.S.R.
Swaziland versus U.S.S.R.

Only current allies of U.S.S.R. or Imperial Russia can now declare war in support.

(you can't anyway)

Libya warns Turkey to stay out of the war with the U.S.S.R, as your nation (as well as mine) has yet to develop to where we can send help(military help). I suggest that we send IC help to Russia.

Long Live Canada - Vive le Canada

International Affairs
Canada welcomes the new nations of Libya, Turkey and Greece. While Libya and Turkey have been accepted as U.N.A. members, Greece was excluded, so we have offered the option of Vassalage to Canada as a Neutral country, which has not yet being accepted.

We also congratulate Bosnia on doing so well at the 1900 Olympics, considering lost control of so many territories.

We formally state we are in charge of Swiss Diplomatic Affairs.

Our concern with the U.S.S.R. has eased with 3 major powers taking action to remove the threat in support of Imperial Russia.

Domestic Affairs
Quebec has been given special dispensation by Parliament to have slightly more factories due to having the Capital, than the other two provinces in a hotly contested debate, with Ontario strongly opposed, which at one point of the debate offered to host the Capital itself. However, when the costs of doing this was revealed to Ontario, they relented and then supported the move wholeheartedly when they saw the the benefits would be shared with all provinces.

Income: 210 + 20 IC
40 for 20 new factories in Quebec
20 for 10 new factories in Ontario
20 for 10 new factories in Satkatchewan

Remainder of expenditure is now confidential

So concludes our briefing to the International media.
