I'm Irish and I was never taught in school that Azerbaijan was part of Europe. Their Soccer team is part of UEFA (the European Soccer body) for some reason but culturally they are very much not European.

Though some middle eastern parts are culturally european (eg Armenia), turkey minor isnt among them.
