Salons don't actually suck. They're not great, but can be useful in reasonably common situations.
Musketeers are definitely better than many other UUs. Pairing them with knights is especially effective, IIRC, especially if you draft them, freeing up hammers for the knights.

In Vanilla, the Cossacks were an awesome UU. But in BTS, it got nerfed to oblivion. I think that the russophobes from New York and Washington told Firaxis to nerf Cossacks, as a part of their wide campaign of discrediting and slandering anything Russian

The last thing I want is for my computer games to be politically correct in accordance with modern values.
Pretty much every game I play is not politically correct in some way. Civ5 is the most politically correct game I play (and that's not a good thing necessarily as Civ5 is one of the worst games I play).
Fallout just wouldn't be fallout without hookers, guns, and drugs. Not necessarily in that order. And it has slavery in it too. Just like games like Dragon Age. We won't even get into how rpg's with "races" promotes racism.
