Israel invades Gaza

You should've seen them blow up in 2006...

How many tanks did they lose in 2006?

nm found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Israel-Lebanon_conflict#Israel_Defense_Forces

According to Merkava tank program administration, 52 Merkava main battle tanks were damaged (45 of them by different kinds of ATGM), missiles penetrated 22 tanks, but only 5 tanks were totally destroyed (2 of them by improvised explosive devices). Hezbollah caused additional casualties using ATGMs to collapse buildings onto Israeli troops sheltering inside.[65]

Yah, thats definately a consideration, but Infantry is dangerous too. Its just something you gotta accept.

Not much compared to the amount of anti-tank fire the Merkavas sustained, but still there were at least a couple tank crews lost. I don't remember the exact numbers.

Yes, my fellow CFCers, cheer for the death and destruction that will ensue.

Meh.

It seems that Israel sustained it's first casualties. At least that's what I can gleam from innuendos on the news.

Im sad to see it happen and feel sorry for those palestinians who are forced (or just dont know better) human shields for the terrorists there. Also im pretty sorry for those Israeli troops that have to battle with terrorists who fight within unarmed civilians.

But from what i have read from various sources i dont see any other way to bring peace there atm.

Well it was going to happen. Let's hope Syria/Lebanon isn't dumb enough to make a northern Front.

That would be pretty dumb indeed, militarily the only thing that Israel has to worry about is Egypt, if the Islamic Brotherhood would ever manage to seize power.

The dim witted are usually the first to laugh.

I see you've never taken a poli-sci course.

The dim-witted don't even see half the stuff I find funny.

would israel be able to do this?

Yeah. They're not going to over deploy to Gaza at the sacrifice of being unable to defend their north.

thats right egypt has their very own hercules, he could probably lift up a merkava and throw it at the other merkavas.

With Syria, yes. Iran, well, that would probably lead to a general war involving the US.

I don't think Iran has any real interest in going to war with israel, as to war with Syria, doesn't Syria have a larger army? and more population to draw more recruits from? and hasnt it been getting some modern weapons and stuff from mother russia?

Syria has no chance whatsoever against Israel. Last year, Israel bombed a nuclear facility in Syria. Syria didn't even try to react militarily. Its airforce is entirely inferior and the ground forces are not much better. Quantity doesn't matter here.

Iran could order Hezbollah to attack Israel with missiles though.

@Winner: Why do I feel you are in some way responsible for the conflict? :p

I have no idea, I am not a psychiatrist.

I expected they'd start after dark.

Of course, it would be rather conterversial if they had started during Shabbas.

I'll reserve judgement on this operation until its impact is more apparent. The last thing anyone needs is a serious humanitarian crisis.

Yea, those pesky Polish lobbing rockets into Germany...they deserved it!

That's a ridicolous comment. You might actually read Winner's post that I was responding to.

But anyway, it's not as if Israel hasn't done anything. For years they have economically strangulated Gaza, plundered it's ecology and infrastructure, terrorized its population, and deliberately hampered any Palestinian attempts to form a independent state. So, Israeli actions are not that far from what Nazis might conceivably have done.

Godwinized by 13th post, that must be a new record

I made no mention of Nazi Germany's actions or Hitler. I was simply saying that your world view and values are close to those of the Nazis.

But hey, at least you're honest about it. Palestinian lives are worthless.

"Quantity Has A Quality All Its Own"

i think in the end , it would boil down to who has the better leadership.
