ITNES I - An Epoch of Change

To Iceni:
From Caledonia:

In response to your armistice proposal: die, heretics, and burn in the fires of eternal torment.

But we're not heretics anymore....Unless of course Gaul refuses to recognize that the new emperor has renounced all claims to religious power (which from what I understand was what made Iceni "heretics" to begin with) and refuses to appoint an orthodox bishop as head of the church and accept the repentance of the country. But if they do that, they are just needlessly causing divisions within the Church, which seems pointless.

I don't believe I've seen any such declarations on the part of the Icenian government.

Post #792. Still waiting for a response from Gaul, but I am opperating for now under the assumption that the main thing they will want is a leadership change. Since Emperor Makar is dead, his son Prince Solpher will be crowned Emperor. However he will not assume the head of the Iceni church like his father.

The turn you invaded me, I concocted a very complcated and elaborate conspircy against the Berber throne, for no reason but to help evict you from Israfanid territory. The conspircy happened to succed, when my old nation failed. Within the conspircy, the Republicans, the Nubians, and the Judaists were all coconspirators, and they signed the Treaty of Akam, promising borders as the above map shows.

OOC: There was no such thing. I caused the civil war solely myself. And there was no treaty. I have no freaking clue what you are talking about.

@Imago; setting up a violent rebellion is not normally the way one produces a peaceful trading state ;). Ego and (often) geopolitics will casue the originating state to attempt to retake 'their' lands.

OOC: And if you don't intend to destroy a country simply because it is an Imagoist state.

OOC: Whoahwhoahwhoah. I do not attack someone simply because of the player. It's just been bad luck that we've been set against each other twice.

Let me explain my logic here: I was a friend of the Berber Pharoah. He got killed by the General, ergo the General is an enemy of my friend.

The Republic is the logical successor to the Egypt that I was a friend of (the Berbers who invaded being barbarians, not organized conquerors, and the Nubians not being Egyptian), and more directly they have already extended offers of friendship.

That is Parhae's situation. We have no quarrel with Nubia at this time, merely the General in Arabia and the threat of a new Israeli state in Arabia.

Oh, forget it. I'm out, and I'll stay that way. Too much work, this. Have fun, and wonder what I was talking about.

OOC: Having actually read everything that was there previously, really not seeing what the problem was. Nobody was threatening Nubia directly and if the Israelis don't get a state: oh well? If you're not playing it and it's not a significant factor in planning (and it didn't look to be) who cares? The art of politics is knowing when to screw people over.

We believe that the time is now prudent for the potential expansion of the Sublimity to other nations; its basic clauses are of course, non-binding, and mutually supportive of member nations, and it encourages cooperation and trade. For these reasons, we propose the possibility of expansion of the Sublimity by offering potential invitations toward the following nations: Aryavarta, Suzhou, Tieh China, Choson, and Nihon. We ask for your approval of the propagation of invitations as we do not believe it to be a matter to be undertaken unilaterally.

FROM: Khmer Empire

We are interested in establishing official, state-ordained trade relations above and beyond the natural trade currently ongoing. We believe this to be of benefit to all parties. The proposal is simple: equal trading rights for merchantry before the law in the nations of participants, and an endeavor to keep tarrifs and taxes on foreign goods at a sensible level when practicable.

TO: "Maori", Polynesians
FROM: Khmer Empire

We are interested in establishing trading posts and depots within your realms, and are willing to trade various goods and knowledge with you in reciprocation. What do you say?

OOC: das, I ask you to just quote this, rip the bit below out, and stick it on the front page like in NES2 VI. It is a serious pain to go through every page of the thread looking for every individual update.

Maintaining it and adding new ones is fairly simple.
  • Take the link to the first post of the update, IE: forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=4766747&postcount=449
  • Take that bolded part, and drop it in where you see X's: forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=X#postX
  • You then get the following: forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=4766747#post4766747
Which starts the link off at the very beginning of the update and lets you scroll down.

The meeting hall of the council was unusually empty as Elder Tervel entered the hall. Only few of the most prominent elders were present, he noted, also noticing that High Elder Susi nor the Holy Emperor were present. Only a few days ago he was still a practically unkown monk to the higher ups of the Tarunian hierarchy. But since the High Elder had caught a fever and was in extremely bad condition, he had been promoted to deputy High Elder (and thus also given permanent elder status) by the suggestion of someone high up in the Hierarchy. He wondered how these people had even heard of him, or how he was any more fit to rule then any of the elders.

He didn't even want the position, but once you have been elected to such a prominent position, refusing it would be an insult to the entire religious leadership. So, here he was attempting to stop Tarunia from being sacked and burned to the ground by the Norge and Mordvin hordes.

As he reached the High Elder's seat, directly below the one reserved for the Holy Emperor although he never attends council meetings, one of the oldest of the elders slowly rose up. Tervel saw from his robes that he was one of the elders from the Baltic provinces.

"I greet you high lord." The man's voice was old and soft. "And I wish that the situation wouldn't look so grim, however know that the Baltic parishes will support you in any decision you make."

The same ritual was repeated by the other elders, stating that their respective parishes will support him in anything he decides to do. Even though Tervel was sure that they wouldn't support him so fanatically as they claimed, that ritual being one that is always held when a new High Elder is chosen, the words did offer him some support.

After everyone of the elders present had said their vow of loyalty, he got up from the High Elder's seat, and began the actual meeting.

"Right now we are presented with two very grim problems. The first being to keep the Norge army stranded on the otherside of the Sea of Tarun*, and the other to prevent the Mordvin heretics from entering Tarunia itself." Tervel spoke as clearly as he possibly could "What is the condition of the fleet?" He directed his question to the elders of the Baltic and Finnish parishes.

"The fleet is currently being rebuilt, after the disasterous loss of our fleet at the hands of the Norge. But the fleet can be rebuilt to nearly its pre-war glory. We also have received word that Nadruvia is sending its fleet to assist us against the Norge. However, we must finish the reconstruction of our fleet before the Norge manage to act or all is lost." One of the Finnish parish elders said and sat back down.

"Then what of the Mordvin Horde amassing on our eastern border?" Tervel asked the leaders of the eastern parishes.

"Our army is currently deployed at the border and our chain of fortifications are in place. Our Northmen are specifically trained for fighting in fortifications, however the heretical Mordvin army outnumbers our army. And we are not sure how long will we be able to hold. But the border shall be defended to the last man if need be."

Tervel was not as confident on the fighting spirit of the Tarunian army as the elder in charge of the eastern provinces was.

"Then what of the fighting spirit of the people?"

"Quite low, his Holiness is actually right now visiting the most important cities and parishes, trying to improve the peoples' fighting spirit." One of the elders from the south said

"Is it having any effect?"

"So far there has been no significant improvement, high lord"

"That concludes our meeting for today, I will expect to hear from all of you within two weeks time"

Tervel wanted to just give the 'glory' of being high elder to someone else, he didn't want to be anywhere near power, and most of all not at a time like this. He wondered if history would blame him for the destruction of Tarunia or would he really be the one to make Tarunia narrowly avert disappearing to the pages of history.

His worst fears were confirmed, when a few days later the death of High Elder Susi was confirmed. Now he was trapped to being High Elder for the rest of his life.

OOC: Symphony, what series is your avatar from? It reminds of Crest/Banner of the Stars.

From: Phoenicia
To: Khmer Empire, Hong Kong and Dukunnugeya

We Phoenicians are a very curious people, and whenever we see an opportunity to gain access to new markets, we just have to do something. Therefore you may excuse our blatant question:

The concept of the Sublimity of the Southern Seas is of great interest to us. While a question to simply join such a pact would most likely be too much asked, we were wondering, if the humble nation of Phoeniocia could gain some sort of.. special position?

OOC: I strongely support links to the update on the front page!

TO: Phoenecia, Dukunnugeya, Hong Kong
FROM: Khmer Empire

We would not be opposed to the entry of Phoenecia as an Observer in the Sublimity, but its distance, combined with the somewhat regional nature of the agreement, would make its full involvement somewhat difficult at such a distance.

OOC: Reno, Tenchi Muyo!, and various spin-offs (most of which should be treated as non-existent).

That was the idea. It had way too much potential going to waste... I guess I wouldn't mind a player there, but Wagadou is also a nice country. Your choice, in the end.

Links will be added after the update.

IC:

Choson accepts the trade proposal.

The Polynesians agree as well.

I'm can only be in one NES...I figure I would like to take a more powerful and intreasting country. Wagadou does have great potential, but they are rather out of the way...I like to be in the thick of things...

So Nordiken it is...
