JalNES I: Quick and Easy

EEK. thats bad :p

you should just do foot soldeirs as 500, horsmen 200, machines 10
It's not that much math (see Kamilian's NES if you want that), and it enables much more realism.

You ever saw me in Kam's nes? It has reasons...

If you don't want to do the math, just don't use fractions of spending points. :p

You forget Spearmen were a miliatry unit with honor that was trained from the best soldeirs. While archers were just plain peasents who were taken into battle... no training no nothing... less cost on archers from this angle..

In fact erez, I must inform you you have been misinformed. The majority of spearmen, "spearmen" not phalanxes and their like, are normally not well professional trained troops. They have much less training with the spear then the archers with their bows, since it requires much practice to train with a bow and keep a continous rate of fire. :p

Spearmen in fact, were just plain peasants who were taken into battle with a spear and a little wooden shield ;) I agree with north king in essence.

they are all peasents, their is no training level

Not true. The cost represents the cost of training them. Also, education, technology, etc. will have an effect on training. It's just not a stat you can explicitly increase, because it's ridiculous to carry over training from the last update when that was 100 years ago.

what if you want to train better spearmen and not spend much time training archers at all. Or what if you didnt want to spend any time training anybody and merely wanted to overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers, could you do that?

You could invest money and get some or all of your troops to have better training for that turn only, probably...

And the second would be called conscription. :p Or you could build your culture so that everyone spends time in the army, or write a story about your great horde for some bonus troops, maybe...

Use your imagination! These are situations outside the rules, and I'll deal with them on a case-by-case basis.

The bottom line: temporary changes in training are possible, but until/unless we go to much more frequent updates, they won't persist.

Well I cant do that because im not even in the nes, it just seemed strange how you seemed to be forcing certain military units to have certain amounts of training.

bla bla bla.. I'll keep using whatever.. You make up the math, I'm not going to get into wars soon anyway.

to Lower Egypt:
Our eldery son and doughter will marry and a continuation of the Pharaohs line will have to come from our two families.
Every 10 years we shall switch control over the country until a son of both our families could rule.

To Minoa
From Byzantium

Fine. We agree to the terms. HOWEVER, Byzantium clarifies that she has the right to terminate this agreement at any time.

From: Minoa
To: Byzantium

We are pleased that you agreed. Very pleased...

From: Lower Egypt
To: Egyptia

We would prefer that the countries remain seperate until an heir to both comes from the marriage.

40 Hours Until Update!

I have 2/7 orders. If you get them in early, update will appear earlier. Funny how that works...

If only one person writes a story, then they'll get mega-bonuses... (hint hint). I like stories. Write them! You want to start defining your cultures now.

Soldier's Story

Teskes gazed up at the rising sun, flaring the horizon to a deep orange. He gazed around at the surrounding camp. Nearly 1000 tents stretched out through the serene valley. A faint mist still hung over the area, giving the lower valley an almost unearthly appearance.

There was no other word for it. The sight was beautiful. A beauty that Teskes, a common soldier, had seldom seen before.

Jogging down to the burbling creek, the Medean hunched over and held a flask into the stream, letting it fill with water. He repeated this several times, with each of his comrade's flasks.

As he walked back up the valley towards the camp, Teskes watched the area come to life. More soldiers were up and about now, some lower-ranks preparing the chariots and feeding the horses.

Teskes ducked into his tent and tossed the flasks on his sleeping comrades. Some stirred.

"Up guys. It's dawn. Our dear General wouldn't like slackers delaying his army, would he?"

Some of the figures stirred and began to get up. Teskes poured some of his water on the neck of one who wasn't. He got a shout and a kick, but the rest of the group laughed.

"So, where are we again? I was stuck in the back of the chariots yesterday, couldn't see a thing through the dust."

"A fortnight south out of Agbatana, northern Persia. We're just north of some of their frontier villages. Scenery's great, by the way. Much nicer than the rocky wasteland we just got out of."

"Good. With any luck I'll be able to see something today."

"Don't count on it. I heard that they need a few soldiers strapped to the bottoms of the chariots all week to check for cracks."

"Heheh, your turn for that Teskes."

The group chuckled again.

"No, I got the water this morning-"

"Yeah" cut in one soldier, "Got the water all over me."

"That was a favor, you'd get abandoned here if I hadn't raised you then."

"Sure."

Outside, a horn sounded. The group of Medes left the tent for the center of the camp, for the morning rations.

"Hmm, this is better than yesterday."

"They only had to feed us enough to walk yesterday. Today, we're fighting."

"You sure about that?"

"From what I heard, yes. You know, villages to the south? They're definitely going to put up a fight."

"Not too much."

"Yes, but we still get fed better. Best of both worlds."

"Don't tell anyone above us that, or we'll be gagging on gruel tomorrow."

"We're walking tomorrow?"

"Presumably. Unless these guys put up too much of a fight."

The horn sounded again.

All around the camp, the Medean army buzzed with activity. Teskes and many other infantry took their spears from the temporary armory, strapped on their padded armor, and donned their bronze helmets.

Charioteers prepared their machines, adjusting wheels and all other details constantly, trying to reach a perfect balance.

General Iaxeres mounted his horse, already clad in full battle gear.

"Solders of Medea! We reached our enemy's northern border! It has been passed. We reached their outposts. They have been vanquished. Now, we reach their people. And they will be conquered!"

The Medes cheered enthusiastically, banging spear on shield and sword on chariot.

And thus did the Medean army begin to move out of the valley. Down towards the villages. A small group of soldiers emanated from them. They would soon be dead.

Teskes looked up for a second before his group crashed into the enemy. The dawn sun rose above, ascending into the sky. The Medean army charged below, descending into the enemy.

OOC: You do know a united son comes in 1 turn? 100 years man! people live barley up to the 30's.. So unification it is :D (including armies I assume)

hmmm but for now I'll use my own... Let's see what my orders shall be.

Woohoo! Story!!! It shall be added to the story index. If you want, give it a title.

Yes, I know... but the point is the unification is at the end of the turn... so you should only send orders for your forces.

For years two Egyptian kingdoms lived next to each other honoring the same god's. Two Pharaohs rules two seperate kingdoms. Every time a Pharaoh died a great and beutifull Mastaba was built in is honor, but now as a unification comes more and more closer the great Pharaoh of Upper Egypt have decided to begin a new trend. Before he will die he ordered thecreation of a small Pyramid shaped building, directed to the star of Ra. This stepped Pyramid will be the largest structre the world have ever seen but in the future... He already knew this Pyramids will be larger and larger, addign to the greatness of the Egyptian people.

As sand stones come from Lower Egypt and workers freely join the project every time the nile floods their farms, The Pyramid begin to take shape, larger and larger, soon Pharaoh Raami II will have a fine place to burry is body and become a god with the Egyptian pantheon...

As the Pyramid height increas so does the unification of the kingdom of the nile into one comes closer... Soon a great empire will form under the Pharoh of the greater egypt and the lands will become stronger than ever.

(If it doesn't give nothing? Must it be considered a Project? It's just a tiny pyramid after all.. in the big ones i assume it will become projects that give culture... perhaps education...?)
