JalNES II: Quicker and Easier

Do stories and story bonuses work as usual, is there no story bonuses, are stories not allowed (there is a case for that), or what?

Dachs, is this location for Urkesh correct? My eyes are bleeding from trying to figure that map out...

Stories are allowed and encouraged as the primary means of developing your culture. Story bonuses may or may not be given--they have a tendency to cause spamming of subpar stories, unfortunately. I'm open to arguments either way.

Perhaps my state should be Neo-Kadria? Anyway, I'll actually reserve the Euphrates for the sake of actually being able to make stories easier.

The First Kadrian Empire
NOTE: I will continue to use the name Kadria, but the culture's 'actual' name is something more linguistically appropriate.

When the Hurrians invaded, the Kadrians were not a major power, though they were on the first tier of tribes below such. One of their primary advantages was being in a posistion near the limit of where the Hurrians would advance, but not actually at it.

The rulers of Kadria decided to begin by provoking the Hurrians into attacking, then giving a false promise to a state roughly equal in power to become their vassal in exchange for aid. This allowed them to weaken the Hurrians on their border.

The next step was to defeat the state they had sworn allegiance to. They did this by having a mixture of members of the 'tribute escort' and 'merchants' attack at midnight of the night tribute was paid (the king had allowed his own son to become a hostage due to avoid enemy suspicion. He ended up dead).

The weakened tribes on the edge of "Hurria" did not have any particular good relations with the others, so the rising Kadria decided to begin a counterattack. This established Kadria as a formidable empire, but it's height was yet to come.

This came when the powerful state of _____ in the south began to rally a coalition against the dishonourable king of Kadria. The king knew he had an ailment that would kill him fairly soon, but successfully covered it up to his family. This was practice, as he allowed himself to become a hostage to his southern neighbour for good behavior.

With the king of Kadria his direct hostage, while ultimately seeing through the ploy, saw through it too late. And rather then gamble on a repeat of their trick with the tribute delegation, the Kadrians had sent men to kill the enemy peasants as to prevent the _____ from raising troops. The king responsible for the rise soon died, but the empire was at it's height...

I may have been the enemy of Safot Softim biQarthadast, but Kartyria was okay with me. :) Just playin' with you.

OOC: Ah yes, I almost forgot your little fight with sheep in ITNES ;) You know, I was cheering for you all the time since I couldn't stand sheep's own Punic Blood thing :p And didn't Kartyria betray you in the end? Before they themselves got betrayed :mischief:

I never wrote a sub-par story in your first nes even with the bonuses. I believe bonuses should be at your disgression ;) [More] Power to the mod!

What Punic Blood thing?

What Punic Blood thing?

OOC: ITNES, Sheep's "racist" Carthaginian Empire (though he spelled it much differently, and differently everytime) snuffed out Dach's Rome after epic warfare lasting centuries and then instituting this whole blood ranking system.

The History of Tyros: The Founding

According to the legend of Tyros, a huge war was waged for control of the vital ports along the Fertile Crescent, on one side stood the armies of the south, while on the other stood the armies of the north. One certain figure in the northern armies stood out. This man was called Celio Kesa, he was the North's greatest General who commanded vast armies and won every battle he ever entered, whether it was defensive or aggressive, but as fate would have it, his army ran into the South's largest army and both sides engaged. Both sides had capable generals who knew what they were doing, and both sides had strong armies who were well fed and well equipped, the battle was fought on a beautiful landscape that sees blossoming flowers in the spring and green lush fields during the fall, the landscape had 2 distinct hills that lay directly north and south of each other and served as the army headquarters for both armies. All men fighting in that battle knew the fate of their country was at sake for a defeat here would be costly for both.

As the battle waged, General Kesa and his armies gained the upper hand early and forced several southern divisions to withdraw, but fate had other plans, for a local commander misunderstood some critical orders and failed to reinforce the left flank during their charge and the entire flank was surrounded and routed, but despite the setbacks the bravery and quick actions of General Kesa avoided a full rout of the center and his line held, but it was on its last breath for a deadly charge by the enemy on Kesa's right flank obilerated the exhausted recruits there and forced his center to withdraw, or less be surrounded. The armies of the south have finally handed General Kesa his first defeat of his career. Out of 25 battles, 24 were victories, and 1 was a humiliating loss, General Kesa and his hard core veterans from the center decided to escape by sea after running into some southern armies to his north.

At sea fate had another plan, a mighty storm was conjured and forced the ships to dock at an island to wait out the storm. This island was previously undiscovered by any culture on earth, but it was inhabited by some small villages and people who spoke a strange language. When the storm finally lifted, the troops were dismayed to discover that most of the fleet was lost, washed up against the nearby rocks, General Kesa after some deliberating with his top aides have decided to conquer the island and make a home. The veterans made quick work of the villagers and many chose to surrender instead, General Kesa has founded the world's first known island nation. After a small discussion which proved fruitless as General Kesa continued to name the island and the inhabitants, Tyros and Tyrion, respectively.

General Celio Kesa ruled as King of Tyros for the next 20 years before succumbing to old age. His son now rules, and Tyros has seen rapid growth in naval power and trade lanes. The future is bright, but how long will the light shine brightly? Though once he was able, King Tesa I sent a small fleet to investigate the fertile crescent to see who won the war and attempt to contact his leaders, but when his sailors arrived the ports were destroyed and no trace of the armies from both camps were seen. It was as if the armies just simply vanished.

Akkadia
Dark red
Akkad
Government: Absolute Monarchy
Economy: Agriculture and plunder from war
Military: Made up of heavy infantry garnishing spears and bows, with a strong and vast chariot wing.
Culture: The religion is the standard polytheist religion. Each city has a chief god, though the entire pantheon is worshiped. Chief God of Akkad is Nonanost, the god of war. Akkadians, despite their thirst for war, dominance, and expansion, are also keen architects, taking pride in their huge temples and beautiful city buildings. Akkadians are not much for being traders, but do welcome friendly merchants within their borders to do the trading for them, while levying a hefty tax.
Description: Sprung up just like the rest of Mesopotamia.

Start me out in OTL Akkad.

Looks like Mesopotamia and the Levant are getting awfully crowded. Daftpanzer and Azale have free run of their places right now.
Dachs, is this location for Urkesh correct? My eyes are bleeding from trying to figure that map out...
Yeah, that's good. Sorry about that. Will my territory really be that small, though?
You know, I was cheering for you all the time since I couldn't stand sheep's own Punic Blood thing
I remember that, and appreciate it. :) I did go overboard with the whole thing though, having a grand total of what, four months' NESing experience under my belt?

What happened was weird.
Spoiler ITNES I IT II and III :
We started off allies to invade Arverni Gaul for the various wrongs it had done to our states over the centuries (like pillage Rome during the BT). Then the Portuguese, our other ally (which weirdly controlled all of Spain) got attacked by Carthage, so tossi (Kartyria) and I allied to fight against Punic expansionism. Our fleets got trashed - I think that I attempted to do exactly what the Romans did in the OTL First Punic War, but das wasn't having any of it - so Kartyria and I signed a peace agreement with Carthage after Portugal went the way of the dodo (and later appeared up in Ireland...silly erez). Then that very turn Carthage sneak-attacked what was left of my navy under the guise of "didn't know that the war was over" and used that "excuse" to invade Rome itself and burn it to the ground, while Kartyria seized the Po River Valley. Immediately afterward, Kartyria came to me with this elaborate plan for allying with the Byzantines to annihilate the Punic navy in a turn, drive out the Carthaginians from Italy, and assassinate the Punic leader (can't remember if it was an empire yet). Only the Italian phase worked, as the three of us (ThomAnder, tossi, and me) sucked at coordinating our navies and tossi's assassination plan was wildly unrealistic. War continued in the same vein for another five or so updates, with all Allied invasions of Punic territory being repulsed and Sheep himself lacking the manpower to attack us, until Communisto (who'd been in charge of the Byzantines originally but who wanted his country back when he came back from vacation or something) betrayed me during his first turn in charge and launched a massive invasion of Italy along with Carthage. Kartyria, who hadn't really been fighting all that effectively, bought the big one either that update or the next one because Carthage allied with a bunch of Gallic tribes that used to be in the Arverni confederation to annihilate their war-exhausted homeland, and with me all alone I dragged out another turn of war - smashing the Byzantine army that was in my territory but failing to eject the Carthaginians - before I agreed to a peace that left me with all of my original land but forced me to recognize Carthage's conquests over the last fifty years and which also allowed a really nasty Magna Graecian revolt to pop up.

Then, of course, two hundred years later, there was an even more epic war in the next IT, with me taking over all of Byzantium but losing all of Italy to yet another Punic sneak attack (they violated our NAP this time), then, allied with the Dacians and Lucans, we actually managed to capture and burn down Carthage itself before taking Italy back, but when the Dacians had to leave to defend their homeland from silver's Huns I was all by myself, got depressed and covered in schoolwork, and didn't send orders that last turn as Rome finally succumbed.

OOC: ITNES, Sheep's "racist" Carthaginian Empire (though he spelled it much differently, and differently everytime) snuffed out Dach's Rome after epic warfare lasting centuries and then instituting this whole blood ranking system.
...and then, in IT IV, four hundred years after my Roman Republic died and seven hundred fifty years after the original war started, I, as an Etrusco-Germanic barbarian tribe in charge of the Po River Valley, withstood a Punic invasion then allied with a rogue's gallery of past allies and even past enemies to retake Italy, march on Carthage itself, destroy the city, and then attack the last bastion of Punic territory in Spain and annihilate it. Any possibility of Carthage rising again in the New World was wiped out (perhaps serendipitously, I never knew) by Nortugal.

Ahh, good times.

Does anyone know the english spelling of the Chinnese word for city?

Depending on what you mean by China, this is almost certainly unrealistic.

NWAG 3 it is a belief. Belief has every right to be impossible or improbabale if you want me to change it I can? I guess you are talking about my description?

I also believe you started in the exact same spot as I did....

Sorry that was a honest mistake I had no idea where Shanghai was! I will move shortly and change my description. Everyone happy?

@Dachs: At the start of update zero, yes--you're all city-states. You'll have several hundred-year updates to expand, though...

@Abaddon: Neverwonagame3 is right--you must start as a city-state. We'll just say that the First Intermediate Period continued longer than it did in OTL...

@Vertinari: Description is mostly fine, though you might want to change the thing about unifying China to some more-abstract belief in unification. And detail the government a bit more, please. Other than that and changing the location, you're fine.

@Lurkers: I highly encourage people to join in India and China. Otherwise I'll have to ask Daft to move, and that will make him sad...

Erm, I gave two city names.. but its the same city.. I didn't know which language you would want it in.

Erm, I gave two city names.. but its the same city.. I didn't know which language you would want it in.
I got that. I just meant that "it's Egypt" doesn't really help much when, in fact, it's not all of Egypt. What distinguishes the Memphis city-state from all the other Egyptian city-states?

@Lurkers: I highly encourage people to join in India and China. Otherwise I'll have to ask Daft to move, and that will make him sad...

That won't be needed my good man!

Sumbiti/Ninja Dude
Dark Green or something
Capital: Shlobi
Government: Monarchy
Economy: Trading ivory and other goods with a small group of trade ships.
Military: A large militia guarding Shlobi with a small group of trained soldiers guarding the king and places of importance (temples and stuff).
Culture: The Sumbiti people are very peaceful and quiet. They try to avoid attacking other groups of people due to their hatred of violence. However, they do have a strong sense of justice and will spill their blood for what they think is right.
Description: Shlobi rose to dominance when a tyrant ruled the small city. He sought to take all the land surrounding it from the "barbarians" surrounding him. However, these barbarians proved to be to strong and drove the tyrant out of the city. Slowly, these barbarians became the Sumbiti, rulers of the conquered city.

Location: Could you put me somewhere south of Daft?

Also, I just came up with random names. I'm not too keen when it comes to India history.
