JFC1: Spacecakes

8am? That's not my style ;)

Yep, 2 presentations, 1 assignment down, and 1 to go. Time pressure is less, tho, so I can most likely play today.

I had good intentions of playing 10, but it is so slow for me, I only did 5. Here's the save, I can continue later, or you guys can play on, and I can resign myself to playing a smaller role due to my technical deficiencies ;)

As usual, in no particular chronological order:

Plague, plague, and more plague. Only Mongolia seems immune for some reason, but we plow on. Cities are settled in Indonesia and BajaCal, with one in Queensland just waiting for some jungle to be cleared. Omaha is under intense cultural pressure, and has lost one of the food resources. Maybe the opera house (or whichever gives +100% culture) should go in?

Everyone wants to be our DP partners, but we continue to say no... although our friend Russia is under threat, and has just lost Novgorod to Rome, and another city in the east to Mongolia.
Civ4ScreenShot0001-3.jpg

Otherwise it was factories, universities, airships,, you know the kind of thing... as well as Sid's, of course. England has destroyers running around, and alot of civs have artillary, so perhaps we should trade for both. Medicine and electricity will give us good mileage, and we'll probably get fascism as well.

Here're trades (did I miss a couple of civs?), power, and our real power:

Maybe we should send in Turkey after Rome or Greece. They are friendly after selling off Biology and we have a ton of techs on them.

Maybe Rome, but I don't see Greece as a rival unless the clever idea is for Turkey to take over Greece, then harass Rome. Still would need to see Turkey's power I think. You're up, Lt. I'll be away until Sunday-ish.

Greece is most likely weaker but really I just suspect Greece and England are Rome's main trading partners. Taking out Greece seems more beneficial to us, whereas Rome only helps Russia. I seriously doubt Turkey could ever muster up the strenght to do Rome much damage... unless we could get Louis in the mix too. I wonder if they still hate each other?

I can play it out later tonight... will be gone tomorrow until Sunday as well.

Start out by jiggering with the espionage and running some recon missions. Greece is remarkably weak and suffering from the plague. Suleiman is only willing to war with Tokugawa and Alexander. He can't reach Rome.... yet, so I send him after Greece for Military Tradition+Steel. I failed to notice Persia had a defensive pact and have to give them Biology+Railroad to make peace with Suleiman. Over he past 50 turns only Russia has more power than us. Rome is suffering a lot of casualties to General Winter and Russia recaptured Novgorod. Cheers! Meanwhile fat head kahn has been giving the Independents hell.

Spoiler :

Suleiman's Frigates went to work pillaging and bombarding Greece but he still hasn't attacked any cities. What's the deal dude? Your power level is almost 4x Alexanders! Shortly after the war started England declares on Turkey and asked us to join in. Go suck a fat one Victoria.... I can't say "I knew it!" any louder. She also wanted us to switch to Representation, Mali wanted us to war with Russia, and Zara wanted us to war with Turkey. No, No, and No. Got it? Thanks.

Spoiler :

In the science department we grab Facism from Zara for Medicine and Electricity, and Artillery from Isabella for the same deal. This was followed by Communism from Mali which finally opened the door for Combustion from Zara. Did I miss anything? Ahh yea Industrialism, Radio, and Advanced Flight... but we didn't get those. That's all we need to be caught up however. Ragnar picked up Radio and I put a turn into that, but he's still "not ready to trade". We do have about five good techs on him... maybe in a few turns.

It never was agreed upon but I tossed the National Gallery over in Omaha as well as hired an artist. It's pumping out 90 fries now and has taken back 1 tile already. Otherwise I built supermarkets in our largest cities and espy buildings. The colonies continue along the usual economic path, and Winburg is now pumping out Destroyers.

I upgraded almost all of the Frigates and Ship o' da Lines to Destroyers. I don't really see much use upgrading the Indiamans. The extra cargo space is more valuable than a few extra strength and 1 more movement point. Cheaper to build them all escorts imo. Then I started upgrading the cannons to artillery when I noticed something odd... our Medic III General is gone. Did the plague kill him? *sigh*

I also noticed we have a Great Spy in Amsterdam a couple turns before I was done. He wasn't born during my turnset... Sweetacshon? Interpol definitely looks like a good choice but we can't build it in Amsterdam for some reason. I checked the buildings list several times but couldn't find it listed... very odd. Can some else check that out?

Infilitrating England might be another option to consider. Victoria is now capable of researching.... <insert drumroll> Computers. Anyone up for a game of steal the Internet? Definitely looks possible...

It's also worth mentioning that I stationed an Airship in Stalingrad have most of them queued up on recon missions. I noticed that England has been scoping us out....

And with that I'm about get it until Sunday. Enjoy the holidays.... and gas prices.

Yep, came in a turn or two before I finished, and his story fell into the lack of alt-tab basket, as usual. I did notice we couldn't build interpol, and I'm not sure what the story is there.

Good trading, btw. I have a rule - no SGs while drunk or after midnight, and it was well after the later, so I didn't want to make any deals :D I'm game for some English espy and the internet ~ why not? Also we should stick the summer palace in Australia.... or somewhere.

I didn't see the general, so plague must have got him  What about giving Rome some grief while he's occupied with Russia?

What about giving Rome some grief while he's occupied with Russia?

I'm not against the idea... especially if Suleiman would ever do his work and we could dogpile em. If it wouldn't be such a diplomatic hit... I'd say we should take out Byzantion for him.

Played to 1880 to even out the year number.

* Did the spy bomb on England. Internet steal would be good.
* Summer Palace in Isabela City, which is remote yet central. I figured Tokugawa wouldn't mind the extra culture, what with having collapsed and all.
* Considered war on justinian. Started positioning units, but he had a stack of 30 in Massilia. No OB with France though. Napoleon has enough on his hands...
* Songwriter event in Amsterdam. Took the 450 culture.
* AP-proposed stop the war against Rome. Don't want them masterizing Catherine and getting Oil. Failed, but on the bright side Justinian voted never (or does it not matter then?)
* 1870 Rome completed Apollo.
* Declined Saladin's request for war on Greece. Couldn't see the benefit - and no OB with Rome to get our troops there anyway.
* 1874 France declared on us, marching a pitiful force of 5 Cavalry and one Artillery toward Amsterdam. "Prepare to meet your doom!" He had jack squat in reserve, but did have 7 Transports and a Destroyer in Brest. I also have a feeling I know where he has a stack of four settlers... still.
* 1876 At the Congress of Angkor I requested Castrum Clus (Hungary/Romania) from Rome, but we had no supporters and no dice. Omaha was voted to America, which I refused. Consequently we were declared on by Mali and Rome, but not America. Simultaneously we discovered Superconductors and so then I turned research to zero for upgrades and rush buying. Did a lot of routine garrison upgrades and built a lot of Barracks (a fast build), both to discourage any sucker punching. It's hard to see them coming across the ocean, especially with the RFC fast ocean movement.
* I thought it was a particularly good time to remind Isabella of that city I named after her:
jfc1-27.jpg

Isabella did have open borders with France, as well as vassals of Carthage and the Khmer.

B***h made peace two turns later.

To be charitable, it was the gesture of mercy event.

B***h.

Spies:
* Inverness - which I believe has Apollo mostly built, but interrupted. Note we lost a spy to counter-intel there recently.
* London - probably the most efficient place to steal techs.
* Paris - building Cristo Redentor
I think we'll need several more spies to do anything real against England, but I wanted to be cautious and build units for at least a few turns.

Gotos:
* a settler to SW Australia.
* transports + escorts (empty) from Australia to South Africa, for option to build troops in Africa and ship them North

Trades:
* Looks like some are up, although mostly with enemies.

War:
* It doesn't look like Justinian has a serious stack for us. His Marseilles stack looks like it's getting the short end of poor AI decision-making.
* We can probably capture Paris and maybe should, but we'd then have to defend it from the Marseilles stack.
* We also have some units just about ready for mischief in the Americas if desired.

Either of you want to got it? We're not playing very often and for my part I'm feeling like we should get it wrapped up. Please play as many or as few turns you feel like. If you don't mind, if I get it again I may play a lot of turns myself.

I'm not sure what you mean by tonight, Lt, but I won't have a chance until tonight either... 10hrs from this post, so take it if you like.

Hey guys somethings up with my comp and it looks like I will have to format and reinstall... count me out until Sunday/Monday. :(

OK, I played my 5 turns/ 10 years/ 15 hours here.

I took a few s/ss, but on reflection, they show nothing of note apart from a couple of naval incursions.
Civ4ScreenShot0003-3.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0007-1.jpg

Both Rome and France are producing battleships... and tanks, and Rome has jet fighters... all this going for the internet is outdating our military, and noone will trade. Viccy is on superconductors, and will beat us there, so we'll probably have to be underhanded to nab it from her - which means prioritising and spending some english EPs, which we should start racking up in large numbers nowish.

We have forces around Paris and new Orleans to convince Napoleon to up his peace offer from ~300g to Industrialism, but no luck there yet. Izzy also has it, but is not willing to trade for radio(part) and refrigeration... WTH? In any case, perhaps giving that deal to 2nd place in score is not a good idea... then again, it's for the internet. One more turn into industrialism, and we'llprobably see some action.

Against battleships, our navy is a little weak, especially in Mexico, so a few builds have gone in that direction. Otherwise, we are looking pretty good. We have a GS en route to Amsterdam, and I'm wondering why we haven't bothered spreading Sid's??

Played up to 1928 and enjoyed lots of war. :) Captured New Orleans and Paris within a few turns which caused the collapse of France. Izzy and Joao jumped at the oppurtunity capturing Brest and Bordeaux.

Stalin soon asked us to war with America and we promptly obliged him. Tanks rolled on Chicago razing it, followed by the razing of Minneapolis, and finally capturing Milwaukee. I marched troops on Washington made peace when units started showing up around Omaha. I sacrified a few units to up the peace bargain but no dice on any technologies, only a city (Barrow) ... we took gold.

I picked up Flight from Zara and spent six to eight turns pumping out bombers and fighters.... just what we need for Rome. Massive squadrons bombed Masilia and our outdated army crushed about 40 units. Masilia down, on to Mediolanum ... 6-8 Mech Infantries destroyed... another city razed. A great general was born over in Mastricht of all places.

Congress rolled around and apparently no one likes us anymore. Victoria wanted Paris, Rome wanted Berlin, and America wanted Omaha ... of course they all win and we defy. Oddly enough only England declared war, so after accidently making peace (for free) with Rome troops roll into Paris to heal and burn London.

Viccy was building space parts but switched every city to Battleships. Our navy still isn't the best so we should probably sabotage the production there. There are two subs and a battleship blockading America which should probably come home. England also captured Milwaukee but they don't have a whole lot in America. Should be easily recaptured ... maybe airlift some units over from Luxemberg.

Rome finished researching computers and now that we've made peace we can bet he'll be building the Internet. We can't see the city production but surely it will be going in Roma. I dropped espionage weights on everyone and have almost everything diverted to England. We're still about 4 or 5 turns from being able to steal a tech.

We won the UN elections and elected for Single Currency ... which passed. We also won the Apostolic Palace again. There was another vote but I didn't make a proposal then... nuke non-proliferation might be warranted. We haven't had a vote since we were elected the Pope.

In other news Japan respawned and declared war. It's been phony so far, other than killing a grenadier... but there is a battleship sitting off Satsuma anyway. I settled the scientist in Amsterdam and built a Military Academy in Luxemburg (not the GG in Mastricht).

Nice. The world congress is certainly keeping the game lively! Well, the congress combined with our aggressive expansionism and stubbornness. :) Got it for tomorrow night.

For a while I built mostly military. Rome beat us to the Internet, and then unexpectedly collapsed. Stagnant economy, maybe? England also collapsed, but that was less unexpected, since I razed London, Plymouth, Manchester, and Inverness. I filled in England, captured Spatulam, and we're ready to take Rome. And finally a little love, thank-you-very-much:
jfc1-28.jpg

Are you sure? You won't want it back in two turns?

So right now the second place scorer is Portugal, followed by Mongolia.. But at this point Mongolia is really China, and Portugal is really Brazil.

I vassalized Mali to boost our power rating, then Carthage for the same reason, then Khmer for fun (Domination?) I noticed that Surya was up to Friendly, bizarrely, and realized he was at war with Persia. :smoke: The war with Persia is why I'm still building a couple units in Australia, just in case.

I razed Nara, the Japanese city that stole our Silk, and made peace.

I also razed Milwaukee. Sid's Sushi is now in Omaha, providing 16 culture - very helpful, as America seems to have some kind of culture advantage. We have a lot of Airports now, so Sushi execs can be teleported around as desired.

Passed no nukes and didn't propose anything else.

We got the national highway event.

We have a Great Prophet in Amsterdam waiting to start a GA, and a military instructor waiting to become a Medic III (or whatever). We also still haven't built the Olympic Park.

I failed to steal anything from England or Rome, so our EPs on them were wasted. :smoke: Researched Computers (not noticing Rome built the Internet), then Robotics/Satellites for the Elevator -- primarily as denial to our much smaller but more advanced rivals. Set to Fission for the Engines, but no points are in it.

Jet, if you're going to do another RFC SG, can you do a Pacal UHV? I have never been able to do it, mainly because of the damn Jungle.
