Jumpmasters 1B: Power is Knowledge (Vanilla, GOTM mod - Emperor - No research)

Hey guys, I'm going to be scarce the next few days, I got another hurricane forecasted to pass right over me again. This one is huge and makes Charley look like nothing. The wind footprint covers the whole state. I live between Orlando & Ocala and that is where the eye is currently projected.

I'll try to keep you updated.

Good luck, Gator! Batten down the hatches, and try not to take any unscheduled trips to Oz. Let as know that you're okay.

Some pics.

Always a welcome sight.

Some fun for the next player!

Settling to get tiles
Dropping the settler on the red dot gives us 6 tiles immediately (blue). Could rush a Temple to get another 2 coast/land tiles within the red. Or, plop another settler on that spit of land to the East, which would get more coastline.
I tried to rush Temples / Settlers in all the places with the highest available tile count, generally 5-7. There are some left where 3 or so can be gained, but efforts might be best focused on expanding the borders in the new Arabia conquests instead.

Speculative expansion
I'm less sure about this one. I rushed a Library in Yaizu, which will now expand in 7 turns. I think this gives us the 5 coast/land tiles outlined in blue, and maybe the 2 question marks. I'm not sure of the rules Civ uses to fill in small bits of territory that are enclosed in your borders.

Hello, anyone out there? :wavey:

Roster
Mistfit -
Gator - hiding safely in a basement with single malt...
Nikof - just played
mad-bax - up
AlanH - on holiday (Karasu play here?)

Grunthex - MIA

Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted. My bottle of Scotch is already on the counter. If you have not heard from me by Sunday evening start worring. I'm probably without power.

@nikof - not sure about that interior expansion area. Also as we gain some of those ocean tiles I think it ups our tile tile needed for DOM.

Since COTM3 is done here is the last couple turns of my game when I was tracking tiles needed for DOM using MapStat. I actually thought I was going to win 4 turns before I finally did.

1395AD - 114 tiles
1400AD - 59 tiles / F3546
1405AD - 36 tiles - founded a couple of cities (gained 6 tiles) / 10 cities are about to expand if I get 3-4 for each that should do it / F3589
1410AD 22 tiles - should pickup 14 tiles on expansion (currently at 1828 tiles) - found a city gained 4 tiles / F3632
1415AD - 13 tiles needed (1847 total tiles) - should gain 13 tiles on expansion / found a city gained 6 tiles / F3676
1420AD - 4 tiles needed (1865 total tiles) - should gain atleast 10 tiles / found 4 cities gained 11 tiles / F3719
1425AD - Victory finally / (final tile count 1889 over by 9)

Good luck, Gator. If you brought only one bottle with you, it must not be something to worry about too much... I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway ;)

I'll be happy to play another round in this game after Mad-Bax. Btw, Mad, take your time: I just got back and I am already up in all my SGs...

Guys I am sorry, I didn't realise I was up. I have it now and will play as soon as humanly possible. Unfortunately, I am travelling this evening and will not be able to play probably. So it looks like tomorrow.

Again, my apologies.

No apology necessary! :)

I just wanted to make sure someone was going to pick up the torch, and carry it screaming towards the thatched roofs of our neighbours!

(Hey, where's the smiley for "rubs hands in gleeful anticipation"?)

1150AD: Preturn.
Rushed a lot of temples. Short rushed a lot of Cavalry with the Bagatur Horde units. Rushes a harbour on the barb island to get lux access to allow some of the towns to grow a bit and allow settler rushing. Switched a lot of towns to wealth.

1160AD:
More of the same really. Only captured two cities.
289 tiles to the limit.

1170AD:
Capture Mecca, generate a leader for Cav army.
239 tiles to limit.

IBT:
Malmo is captured by the Russians. It'll take a couple of turns to get it back.

1180AD:
192 tiles to the limit. All builds completing set to wealth.

Capture 4 Arabic cities, and destroy a Russian one.
Fairly difficult to get settlers to where they need to be.

IBT:
The Russians land two Muskets next to undefended Chong du. I can't defend it, so I abandon it. Will kill the muskets and resettle next turn.

1190AD:
120 tiles to the limit.
Destroy a Russian town
Destroy the last of the Arabian towns.

IBT:
Ottomans land a unit near an undefended town.

1200AD:
85 tiles to the limit.
Begin Disbanding our military into resisting towns to rush libraries. A couple of turns too late :smoke:

IBT:
France and Russia sign a trade Embargo against us.

1210AD:
50 tiles to limit.
Settled wherever I could but fell short by 1 tile. Unbelievable, even though expansions would be more than enough anyway..

..So I declared war on France and took one of Joans cities... and

The Save before Victory.

Good finish MB.

I'm still waiting to be hit the the hurricane. The damn things has slowed to 4 mph and is about to hit some very warm water which will likely allow it to grow again.

@nikof - No basements in Florida, but the single malt is very assessible.

lurker's comment: I have deliberately avoided this thread (even though I'm 'subsrcribed' to it) because I hope to play this as a personal epic...someday...

@Mad-Bax: :wavey: when did you join this team? You have my thanks for cooking up the maps for these games.

@Gator: the last predictions I saw on Frances were better for both of us than the ones I saw this morning... but I'm north of you, and I have my fingers crossed for you my friend.

@Karasu: You have my thanks for taking a team in this.

@Team: Now that you've reached endgame, I hope you all had fun with this one.

:hammer: on!

MB came onboard as AlanH was about to leave for vacation. We should have picked him up when Karasu went on vacation, but he was probably too busy getting SGOTM3 kicked off and answering his fan mail ;).

Would be up for another go with this team. We lost one of our jumpers but I'm sure we could find another.

@Scout - do you have plans for a Jump 2 game?

They cancelled my Gator game for the weekend so I have to do something. Have to go another week without football. [ :) < - < smiley doing the Gator Chomp].

Actually 4 of the SG's I was in just ended recently. 3 wins 1 loss (which should win an award of great use in the kitchen).

Bugs2.0 - win
PTW - win (although we did not acheive the space victory we originally setout for)
Jump1B - win
SGOTM3 - loss (should have secured the Spoon)

Well... Congratulations to the team for making this game look a lot easier than it was :goodjob:

And no need to thank me, Scout, it was a pleasure playing this -actually, I'd be more than happy to jump with these gentlemen into another one. Ideas? ;)

Thanks you all for a great game. I've learned a bunch on this one.

Tight early city placement
Building no culture until late game (for border expansion only)
Building military and almost only military
Better worker movements
Ship chaining (I get the idea but the actual implementation is still beyond me)
Better Tech trading (I still can't beleive we stayed even in tech on Emp with 0% tech slider)

Just a few of the things I will take out of this game. Thanks again.

If we do this again IMO we need to ratchet up the difficulty to Demigod.
Are there any other really cool GOTM civs with neat units that we could play?

Well, I can always add some units to a game. :mischief:

And why not just go for a deity game?

Diety is good for me if you guys can keep fixing the game after my turnsets :D

Is there a utility that will figure what our jason score on this game would have been. Does the Jasonscore take into effect the 0% Sci Slider?

Hey, way to bring it on home, mad-bax!

Thanks for the game, everyone, that was great! I second Mistfit's comments on the great lessons learned. Also
- lots of workers early on. I'm still not quite sure how we got so many, I think there was a worker factory in an early city.
- pick a civ with units that can attack 3 times AND bombard!

I'd be very keen for my first Deity game. Although, once again I'd be away for some of it, from the end of Sept. to the end of Oct.

I've been toying with the idea of playing a game with the Germans, and waiting until Panzer to start serious conquest. Or maybe even later, to bring nukes into the picture...

Also curious about some of the comments I've seen regarding good players' ability to affect the tech pace. Not sure what kind of game we'd want, to play with that. And, I've never had a Communist government.

Cheers,
nikof

I haven't played a Civ III Diety level in a long time. That sounds like fun.

Has anyone checked out the other Jump threads? Are they done with their games?
